I think my problem is solved, at least for my current needs. I now realize that the extra space I was getting only appears in the Yola page editor, but when I preview the page, the text appears as I want it to look.
My default was single spacing, but I'll keep your technique in mind if the problem ever arises when I'm using double spacing. Does your technique apply in the Yola page editor or in the text formatting toolbar of HTML 101?
Also, I'd like your opinion about whether the method Donald is recommending is safe. – Brian, on October 31, 2009 17:38

Actually, the text formatting toolbar does contain much of what I'm looking for. The main thing I'm trying to do that I currently can't is control spacing between lines. Sometimes a space is inserted when I don't want a space. – Brian, on October 31, 2009 16:30

OK, I just tried this site. I find it's only a minor improvement over pasting into Notepad. For example, the HTML helper appears to strip out the font type and size.
I'm looking for a more fundamental solution. The problem I'm trying to overcome is the very limited formatting capability of Yola. One strategy that occurs to me is to format my text in a more powerful tool than Yola (ideally but not necessarily MS Word), translate it into HTML, and then paste the HTML into the Yola HTML editor, thus preserving my formatting. Any idea how this can be done? Alternatively, maybe you can think of another strategy for achieving the same thing (i.e. preserving my formatting). – Brian, on October 30, 2009 19:19

How do I navigate out of Community Forum? Is there an easy way to navigate from the Community Forum back to the Yola main menu?
Brian asked a question in Yola on October 30, 2009 16:28:
How can I get more control over formatting?Since we cannot paste Word-formatted documents into text widgets, is there some other way of transferring formatted text into a Yola webpage? For example, if I can get my formatted text translated into HTML, can I paste the HTML into a Yola HTML widget? If so, can you recommend a free or cheap program for translatin one of the file types that can be saved in Word into HTML?
A comment on the praise "You folks rock!" in Yola:
I see. I didn't realize that "Get Satisfaction" was a program; I thought it was another name for the Yola Community Forum. Good to know I can set up my own forum, although at present I don't have that kind of website. The software is great, but it is especially the Yola Community Forum and its employees that I meant to praise. – Brian, on October 28, 2009 19:58

Brian asked a question in Yola on October 28, 2009 18:18:
Problem pasting from Word to a webpageWhen I try to copy and paste from a Word file into a text widget, I get multiple spaces between paragraphs that are difficult or impossible to remove. I've tried saving the Word file using a number of different file types but the same problem occurs. In the Community archives, Peter indicated a method for doing this by saving the word file as HTML, but I don't see how to do that in Word. Any ideas?

In order to go into the site builder I need to leave advanced domain settings, and when I do, I seem to lose the new DNS records I created. Also, in my account the yellow button in the Site Builder reads “update my site,” not “publish my site.” – bdagostino, on October 25, 2009 00:06

How do I activate a new subdomain and transfer a site to it?I followed the 11 step instructions for creating a subdomain from a domain I purchased from Yola. However, when I try to access my new subdomain (brian.bendag.com) on the internet, I get a message saying that my subdomain "does not exist or is not available." Also, once I successfully create my subdomain, how can I transfer to it a site I published on my primary domain.
