Gail asked a question in Yola on November 10, 2009 20:18:
Trying to NOT Reinvent my wheels.... copy pages from yola pages to yola pagesIs there a way to copy a page from one of my yola sites into another of my yola sites? If not directly, is there a way to copy the contents and move them together?
Gail replied on August 01, 2009 15:36 to the question "navigation problem in "essence"?" in Yola:
I figured it out - if there is a link in the content of this CSS which is too long to fit on one line, the CSS expands the "content window" and it interferes with the menu... this is also true if the user places an image which is bigger than the "planned for" content area...
Thanks for the ideas and help!

Thank you for your definitive response.
I am disappointed in the lack of this feature and hope it will be added ASAP... in the meantime I will back off a bit on my promoting this as a tool for teachers, easy links are just too important... will I somehow be notified if this ever gets added to Yola? – Gail, on June 24, 2009 17:32

SO, are you saying every link someone puts on a yola site has to be put into the link tool? It can't even do what word or ppt does? I can't believe it!! (See earlier response from littleus - I think this is a MUST HAVE - most products which deal with text can recognize the http:// as a lead-in to a link.... why not Yola!?
This may just drive me away... I am an educator and a lot of what I do is sharing links with teachers... – Gail, on June 24, 2009 17:19

ARGH!
Okay - so to be clear - I am looking to find out how to have yola automatically create links when a text widget has a link in it (like http://www.GailLovely.com). I have copied the text into wordpad to remove all the "funky code" and then deleted the old text widget and then copied and pasted the text from the wordpad.... STILL, no links.
I understand and know how to make links, but am hoping Yola will AUTOMATICALLY format phrases like "http://www.GailLovely.com" as links and make them active...
Is this likely or even possible? I have lots of links to do on lots of pages!

Okay - so I copied the text (which was originally a combination of things from other sources - like an old powerpoint, and also typed in) - and pasted it into Notepad. Then I copied it and pasted it back into the page.
Now there are no links.
Please continue helping me - I have LOTS of pages like this to make today!

Actually - look at this page of my site:
http://lovelydots.yolasite.com/nets--...
You will see some links I activated by highlighting the text link of the link and using the link tool to make it an active link - some of these ended up blue, (active links), some ended up underlined in blue (active links), some other links were made automatically by Yola and are blue, and other links are not seen as links by Yola at all...
Thanks for helping.

Automatically create Links in Yola?Is there a way for Yola to "recognize" a link in a text widget (like http://www.GailLovely.com) and automatically create it as a link like Office and other programs do or do I need to click on the link tool and make each url into a link?
By the way... it seems like some links are changing to the link color (blue) others are just underlined in blue...
Thanks in advance!

When I click on the html button I get this: <font><font><font><font>The title of this post COULD be referring to my desk... is this REALLY a work area? But I have been thinking about a question I saw on Twitter recently... the question was something like; “Do schools really need to buy Microsoft Office?” I don’t think this was a “yes or no” question.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" ?><o:p></o:p></font></font></font></font>
<o:p><font> </font></o:p>
<font><font><font><font>Do schools need a powerful suite of tools which work well together?<o:p></o:p></font></font></font></font>
<o:p><font> </font></o:p>
<font>Of course they do. The incredible power of the suite of tools in Microsoft Office is obvious. The tools (PowerPoint, Word, Excel, and others) work well together and are powerful in the wide variety of uses and outputs one can create with them. They have a fairly consistent interface so the learning curve for each tool usually gets shorter and shorter as each new tool is used. This is an important factor.
I can use free online tools for creating written documents. I can use free online tools for creating presentations. I can use free software to do these things too... AND, if I pick a common base (Zoho, GoogleDocs, Open Office) these tools will work pretty well together. Mix and match is only for “Do it Yourself-ers” who don’t mind finding ways to mix and match.
</font>
<o:p><font> </font></o:p>
<font><font><font><font>Do schools need a locally-stored version of a powerful suite of tools?<o:p></o:p></font></font></font></font>
<o:p><font> </font></o:p>
<font><font><font><font>Hmmm are schools, and more importantly school networks, ready to rely on “cloud computing”? Can we expect the school’s access to the Internet to be reliable enough and robust enough for us to use online-stored and online-run tools? Based upon my work with schools in about 30 states, not yet. Imagine the chaos of your school if suddenly all access to word processing or presentation tools was “temporarily unavailable” during finals week. Not a pretty sight. When schools invest more time, money and people to supporting the technological infrastructure we will be better able to trust “cloud computing” and keep both our files and our applications in the cloud – for now that appears to be a distant haze in most schools.<o:p></o:p></font></font></font></font>
<o:p><font> </font></o:p>
<font><font><font><font>So, do schools need to have Microsoft Office in order to prepare students for their future? <o:p></o:p></font></font></font></font>
<o:p><font> </font></o:p>
<font><font><font><font>The huge number of interface changes from Office 2003 to Office 2007 proves this argument to be bogus. Using integrated suites of tools is not about teaching students which buttons to push to do certain tasks, it is about using the best tool(s)for the situation. It is about harnessing the tools to do the “grunt work”. So which tools we use are less important than how we use the tools. The tools will continue to change, applying tools is a skill which will always be useful.<o:p></o:p></font></font></font></font>
<o:p><font> </font></o:p>
<font><font><font><font>So back to the original Twitter question... “Do schools really need to buy Microsoft Office?” – I guess my answer is a qualified “no”. Just get the best tools you can and help students (and teachers) learn to pick and choose tools based on desired outcomes. <o:p></o:p></font></font></font></font>
It seems like it says font about a gazillion times... do I have to type a font family in each place?
