Well - there are some web hosts/editors out there who are promoting themselves as being green. They make mention of how they seek to use alternative energy sources (wind/solar/etc) and their paperless efforts, and how they are working to diminish their carbon footprint. Sometimes the green stuff is lipservice, but other times there can be meaningful examples. Just curious if Yola is addressing this in any way.

Jane Davison asked a question in Yola on November 08, 2009 13:21:
If I go Yola Pro can I download my site and edit it in Dreamweaver?Just wondering if I step up to Yola Pro, can I download my Yola sites into Dreamweaver so they can be tweaked and then upload the sites to my client's servers/ISPs?
This way I get the best of all worlds by using Yola's editor to build the basic site, then bringing it into Dreamweaver for further customization (if needed) before releasing the site to my client's own ISP.
Also - if I switch to Yola Pro will I get to keep the sites I currently have (the 5 free) plus another 20 new sites or will I have to create a new login for Yola Pro?

Thank you, Emmy for the details. I just have to think this one over some more. Best - jane – Jane Davison, on November 08, 2009 13:02

Lee - thank you! That IS the Lightbox I to which I was referring.
Just want to make sure I understand this - the only way I can use Lightbox is to host my slideshow on a separate URL (not a Yola site) and provide a link out to that site?
Did you edit the code in Yola at all to make this happen other than provide a link? OR did you have to do significant editing to your lightbox page code?
You say this is Lightbox 2.03 "same as the 1 on yolacodes" -- what are yolacodes? Is this something only available to Yola Pro users? I'm just trying to discern if Yola Pro will be the answer to my prayers or not.

So - what is the purpose of having the ability to design 25 different web sites in the business version of Yola if you can't offer each of those sites a different login? The beauty of Yola is its elegant and user-friendly CMS which is what my small business/individual clients desperately need but can't afford someone to create for them. Even if I could at least link those sites out to a separate login so I could offer the client their own login for an additional fee (charged by you, passed along to the customer via me) that would be a huge benefit and one that seems relatively innocuous to implement on your end.
Any hope that could happen in the very near future?

If I can just add one more comment, while the blog platform available through Yola is nice, it lacks a lot of basic customization. I can't even change point sizes of the headings and they are so huge it really looks ridiculous. Using this blog wouldn't be so bad except that there are very few controls. I think you could maintain your signature simplicity but still offer a little more design control in terms of the typography.

The only thing I haven't tried yet is to upload all the files from the Visual Lightbox gallery I just created. But I'm dreading it - it will take all afternoon and then some b/c there isn't an FTP option with Yola.
If anyone else wants to try this, check out http://visuallightbox.com/ and if you can figure out how to make this work, let me know!!

I'm having the same issues. Flickr and SmugMug just don't serve my needs and I prefer the look and feel of Lightbox2 to showcase my portfolio. I really hope I've missed something here because other than this glitch (and the lack of FTP support and a Wordpress interface) I really do love Yola and want to use it - it would make my life so much simpler!! But without these essentials it may be a deal breaker for me.
Jane Davison replied on November 07, 2009 18:32 to the question "Use WordPress on Yola" in Yola:
I just recently downloaded my Yola site to a zipped file and then uploaded it to my host provider thinking I would have more flexibility with the Yola site once it was on my own server. All this is a test to see if I want to go further with Yola as a business venture so I can offer these sites to my own clients. Here is what I discovered:
1 - as soon as I tried to link to my WordPress site it was a no-go. Yola has a router/redirect code running so that it circumvents the WordPress link - at least as far as I can tell I can't get it to work.
2 - I tried to bring my Yola site into Dreamweaver again thinking I could take the basics of Yola, add to them, and then upload to my own server BUT no go. While I can see the code, there are no visuals for me to modify. It is weird - but again, I think a site made with Yola, even once you download the zipped site file, redirects back out to Yola somewhere to pull the graphics. So you can't enhance these sites - you are strictly limited to Yola's options. While they are good options, they may not be enough for you.
If I'm missing something, please let me know.

I have a similar question. I am considering purchasing the business version of Yola so I can expand capabilities with my site built in Yola. For example, I want to use a specific kind of photo gallery - not FlickR or SmugMug. To do this, I'm creating the slideshow on my computer (using Visual Lightbox2) and I need to be able to upload not only the HTML, but all the image files and CSS for this process. My galleries are extensive so uploading all the files one-by-one, instead of doing an FTP, just doesn't make sense. Have I missed something or is FTP not even possible in the professional version?
If I have to store my photo files on another server then I'm not sure Yola gives me enough advantages to warrant the business version. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE what you are doing here...I guess I just want it all. :)
