You can upload music with the file manager (click on "site explorer" and then click on "manage files.")

Just something to think about when adding background music to your site: consider all the places where sound would be a problem to your visitors, like if they are in a library, or a lecture theatre, or the office, or they have a baby sleeping nearby. Music that plays automatically when you open a site is often something that causes visitors to leave your site.

One solution is to add a music player widget that you can grab from a widget gallery instead. This way people can choose whether to listen to your music or not.

The above advice was for uploading a music file and adding a link to it with the link editor. If you want the music to play in the background, here are the steps:

1)Drag and drop an HTML widget onto your page
2)Paste the following over the default tags in the HTML editor:

3)In place of "musicfile.wav" type the exact filename of your music file.

Here is some information about that tag:

"Music File Attributes

After the path to your music file, you'll see a couple of attributes:

The autostart attribute tells the song file how to begin. If you have this set to "true", the song file will begin playing automatically when the page loads. If you put in "false", the sound file will not start automatically and the visitor will have to start the song by using their embedded media player.

The loop attribute tells the song how many times to play. If you have this set to "true" then it will play over and over again automatically. If you have it set to "false" it will play once and stop.

The hidden attribute tells the browser whether or not to hide the media player. It's not a good idea to leave this value at "true" unless you know for sure your visitors don't want to stop the music.

You don't want your music to annoy them to the point they leave because they can't figure out how to turn the music off."

Please note that if your music file is not loading in SynthaSite it is because the file is too large (in must be smaller than 5MB) The reason we have this limit is not because we want to restrict your space but because visitors generally click off sites that take a long time to load, which is what happens if you are sharing large files of any kind. If your music file is too large you might want to try hosting it somewhere else and linking to it. The link to the site I shared with you above will tell you how to do this.

Sorry, I tried to add an HTML tag where that media player image is appearing. Get Satisfaction seems to be cleverly interpreting the HTML and is embedding the image! I can't figure out a workaround (tried quotation marks, tried to upload the tag as a graphic, but no luck)

So to get the HTML tag I am trying to share, please click on the link to the website in my message above and you will be able to find all the information you need.

  Hi Monique, Im trying to add backround music to my website with yolasite and Ive read all your advices and the others, been trying all day...Im a newbie, so I tried drag & drop the floppy disk on my right and it will go in but it will not sound, nor appear in the actual site, even after saving it...please help.

  Can you try clicking the yellow "Update Site" button, this will apply any changes you made to your site in the Site Builder to your published site. If you are still not able to get the music file to work can you give us your url and the page you put the music file on so that we can take a look.

Here is another tip for adding music to your site.

If there is a song that is hosted somewhere on the web (something with a URL, as opposed to a file that is saved on your computer) you can try to following:
1) Drop a Google Gadgets icon on your page (you will find it in the widgets folder) and click on the link it the dialog that will take you to Google Gadgets.
2) Select the MP3 player and click "add to website"
3) In the song URL box, paste the URL of the song you want to play on your site, and then click "get code"
4) Copy the code and paste it into the Google Gadgets dialog box in SynthaSite.

To test your song, save and preview your page and you will be able to play it with your own little MP3 player.

hey I've used this one often. You can stream from another site or save the file to your file manager and stream from that file. I would say to create a new page with it being unlisted in the directory then save the mp3 or music file there... Then save the page and open it up in your browser then click on the music file to open the file in a new window then copy the address and go to the Widgetbox link and insert it into the music widget URL box. Make sure you click the streaming box ok... Adjust the looks and then Get widget... Copy the link into a widgetbox widget and you got sound

  Now in regards to your instructions above... I can't get it to play.
  
  I was doing fine until you said to open the page in your browser after one has saved the music file on a blank page (I'm assuming you meant open in a browser by clicking PREVIEW?) And then you say to click on the music file itself from here.. which in my case, opens up the music file in Windows Media Player - to which you add to copy the address (from which I obviously can't because it's opened up in Media Player..) So what i've done is selected the URL of the page that's opened upon selecting PREVIEW... but nothing... Are you with me?
  
  I've also tried http: //mysitename.yola.com/nameofsong.php - and also nameofsong.mp3.php ALSO tried /resources/nameofsong.mp3

  Hi Marcela - I am going to try and assist you with this. The url of your music file will look like this with your specific information inserted:

  If you have added a folder to your File Manager where you have the music file, then you would need to add that folder to the path and it would look something like this:

  It all depends on the domain you are using. If you are using a top level domain then it will be mysite.com. If you are using a subdomain then it will be mysite.yolasite.com

  I'm sorry to hear that you're still having some trouble with this. Sometimes, after you have uploaded your song to your file manager, you need to click on the yellow "Update my site" button, so that the file manager has cached the latest information. Then, try adding your song again via the widgetbox. Please also be sure that your file name is set up exactly the same as what you have in your file manager. It is case sensitive. Please let me know if you're still having difficulty.

Sorry I forgot that this works as well (the one above is easier for a novice because you never have to edit a url to add the file name yourself. All you need to do is click the file and copy the url in the address bar). Either way it comes from your resources folder but the following link describes what you can put in the above mentioned widgetbox mp3 player url box to have it play one of your music files in your file manager.

This widget is great because the viewer has the option to at first load disable the music easily if they so choose. This is good for many reasons but if you were in a library or at work music might be the fastest way to get them off your site... Just a thought.

I added the following here for you to see as an example. Just replace the (YOURSITENAMEHERE) with your website name and then the (YOURFILENAMEHERE.mp3 ) with your music file name.

h ttp://YOURSITENAMEHERE.synthasite.com/resources/YOURFILENAMEHERE.mp3

I added spaces between the "h" and the "t" to fool getsatisfaction because it always adds a link to urls and for viewing purposes its necessary to do so. Just copy it to wordpad or word and edit the following to delete the spaces, include your site name and to include the file name.

Then copy that to the mp3 widget url box and click the stream box to test. If done correctly it should begin playing your song automatically. If it isn't double check the file name and or that you added the song to your file manager.

I have got the google music thing on my site - but want to upload my own music. How do you find the URL? I have uploaded a file to my file manager - but can't see the code I need to copy. Or is there an external site (similar to imagecave etc) that hosts music files only?

I've just been to http://www.2createawebsite.com to download the free FTP program. The instructions said to click onto the FTP icon once it had downloaded, though I didn't see an FTP icon at all. On the page you download it from, it states, "Once you've installed the FTP software on your PC, return here to learn how to use it." Is this program designed for PCs only? Because I'm on a Mac. Has anyone using a Mac managed to download the FTP program at all?

If you go to http://www.mioplanet.com/rsc/embed_me... you can copy and past the HTML code directly into the google gadget(instead of a google gadget) and you will get a real player. (first place the google gadget on your page then past this code into it instead) You can change the screen size in the first line "width = & Height =". In the second line remove the command "absolute" after "position:" to make it stay where you want to place it or else it keeps moving to the far right top corner. It will appear the way you want it in the preview page but remains a small icon in your working page. < PARAM name="uiMode" value="none"> Change the value none to mini or full for controls to appear. After auto start the value "true" sill auto start and "false" requires the user to start it.

What's the status of this question?

If you go to http://www.mioplanet.com/rsc/embed_mediaplayer.htm you can copy and past the HTML code directly into the google gadget(instead of a google gadget) and you will get a real player. (first place the google gadget on your page then past this code into it instead) You can change the screen size in the first line "width = & Height =". In the second line remove the command "absolute" after "position:" to make it stay where you want to place it or else it keeps moving to the far right top corner. It will appear the way you want it in the preview page but remains a small icon in your working page. < PARAM name="uiMode" value="none"> Change the value none to mini or full for controls to appear. After auto start the value "true" sill auto start and "false" requires the user to start it.

I'll go to the site and do as you've mentioned. The reason I wanted the FTP program is because I want to use a specific track I have saved to my audio file. Can I still use this file if I do it the way you've mentioned? I'll go and have a look now and see what I can do.

I have not tried it with my own music yet. Didn't like the google gadget at all plus this one allows video. I have been to a hundred sites looking for the answers. I found one that just gave simple code you could cut and past and compile your own parameters but it didn't bookmark so now I'm in search of it again. My search was on google key words - embedded music player. If I find it I will post an update. I am looking for ways to embed animation. Lots of free animators but can't get their html script to test in widgets or html box. It would also be nice to know if anybody has figured out how to get subpages to open in a new window, using the browser back button is amaturish.

OK. Sorry, and what I did that maybe I didn't explain better is I don't use the google gadget at all, I just drag and drop the google icon over to where I want the music player located, then when the html dialog box opens I paste the script from the other site into it, without going to the google gadget site. After pasting the script, I edit the script, insert the URL I want then hit OK.

ANIMATION: I discovered that after saving (properties; save as) an animation in my pictures file , if I drag and drop the syntha picture icon onto the page and then browse to my picture file and insert the "still" picture that was animated previously on the other site, it re animates. It seems that the java scripts embeds and saves with the picture even though you see only one image they are stacked with the java script.

If it helps, you can add playlist.com to your site using these steps:
1. Login on playlist.com and click on 'post my playlist' at the top of the page
2. Click on the last option 'get the playlist code for any website'
3. Choose the playlist you would like to use
4. Customise the settings for your playlist
5. Click on 'get code'
6. Copy the code provided

the only way i know to do the is make frames and in the section that has the tabs to go to the different pages of your site embed it in that frame so every page you go to will still be playing the same music with no breaks in the music. here is a link for you

  Hi there - I see that Impact Web Audio and Web Audio Plus offer an option to generate code for you to add to your site, you can try adding it to your page by using the HTML widget:
  1. Drag-and-drop an HTML widget from the sidebar on the right onto your page (the icon for this is a blue sphere)
  2. An HTML editor will open up that will allow you to write or paste your code (use right-click > paste or ctrl-V to paste)
  3. When you are done, click "ok" and you will see the way that the HTML displays on your page

What's the status of this question?

www.cen-tex-gunslingers i used the hints on the faq about adding music....following what others was doing... the hints in the posts above. your first post on here.

Drag and drop an HTML widget onto my page
Paste the following over the default tags in the HTML editor:
In place of "musicfile.wav" type the exact filename of my music file.

Drop a Google Gadgets icon on my page and click on the linked it the dialog to Google Gadgets.
Select the MP3 player and click "add to website"
n the song URL box, paste the URL of the song i want to play on my site, and then click "get code"
Copy the code and paste it into the Google Gadgets dialog box in SynthaSite.

i tried this and nothing. i think that i am doing something wrong. is there a easier way?

  Hi Patrick - I think the best thing would be for you to click on Help in the top right of the Site Builder and click on 'Contact Support'. This will give me more information to help you :)

In section 20.1 of the Adding and Editing Content area of Yola help, there are instructions that imply a default playbar is available - as in this screenshot, but nothing appears when I try this - is this feature no longer available?

  I just tested this and it does work. Make sure that you are putting that bit of code into an HTML widget and then you change the song.mp3 to the file name of the song in your File Manager. Can you give this another try and let us know if you are still having trouble.

OK....it's a bug somewhere in the way Yola works (or not) in the Chrome browser - this method embeds a Quicktime player that doesn't work with Chrome. Other browsers seem OK.

marahaba habibi, all you've got to do is go to google, ya ibni, and then type in for instance eine kliene nachtmusic midi file than past the conde into the website. If you are haveing trouble understanding how to start it, it is optional for visitors of your site to turn it on or of.

A great way to add music to your website is by using aPlaylist.com If you want to erase the tiny three ads, you might have to do a little HTML edditing.

Hi Ezzi,

If you don't have a YouTube account and you don't wish to create one, you can use Vimeo.

Visit vimeo.com - http://www.vimeo.com and choose the video you would like to add to your Yola site.

Click on the 'embed' button. A dialogue box will open with code that you can copy - copy it by using Ctrl-C or right click > copy.

Back on your site, follow these steps to add the video:

1) Drag-and-drop an HTML widget from the sidebar on the right onto your page (the icon for this is a blue sphere).
2) An HTML editor will open up that will allow you to write or paste your code (use right-click > paste or ctrl-V to paste).
3) When you are done, click "ok" and you will see the video appear on your page.

I'm not sure if this will help anyone but here goes. My web site contains hundreds of music related files. After trying various flash players which by the way all worked, I chose this way to present my files. What I like is that by doing it this way, it is iPhone friendly which to me is important. Attached is a screenshot of the code which you would put in a HTML widget

My website is www.mcran.com

I hope this code shows up properly. All this code does is point back to the audio file I have on my hosting server. Not sure yet how to point back to a music file you have in the Yola File manager.

  Hey Randy - you could have the same link on Yola by uploading the file to your File Manager and using the link editor available in the text widget (for example). If you prefer to use HTML, then the path would be something like: www.mcran.com/resources/ITJUN2809.mp3 (if it's in a folder, remember to include it after 'resources').

Hi Randy, I also need my site to have lots of streaming music. I tried the code above but, couldn't get it to work. The problem I'm having is, my editor keeps saying loading component when added a widget. It only gets stuck on the pages with songs. Can't figure out how to add more content. It also says yolasite.com server busy when stuck loading and you try to move something.

  I have replied to you on the initial thread that your conversation is taking place on asking you for URL of the specific site that you're having problems with.
  
  Also just note that what Randy's doing seems a bit different from what you're wanting to do. If you go to Randy's site you'll see that all he has done is created links to the individual files. When one of those links is clicked on, depending on which one you use, your browser realizes that the link is an audio file and only then does a new browser page open where you can play that file.
  
  That is virtually no burden at all on the website, the browser, or Randy's internet connection. However, these are things that need to be taken into account for your website, as you are wanting multiple MP3 playing widgets to load with your site (as far I have have been able to pick up from the thread).
  
  While writing this I see you have responded on the other thread. I will feedback to you there once I have some sort of an answer for you.
  Don't worry, we'll get to the bottom of it one way or another!

It is not possible to have music play throughout your site without stopping as people browse from page to page. You would need to add music to each page of the site, and the music would start over from page to page. Unfortunately this is how it has to be, I'm sorry I don't have the answer you were looking for.

You would need to add music to each page of the site, and the music would start over from page to page. Unfortunately this is how it has to be, I'm sorry I don't have the answer you were looking for.   The best way to do this is to find a flash mp3 player and add a download button at the right and make it link to your mp3 file.
  Or get a play plug in (Windows: Widnows Media Player, Mac: QuickTime or Linux: Totem) and copy it to your HTML box and add a html button that links to your mp3 file.

Hi, you can now add music to your site with the mp3 widget!!! If you go to the site builder, click "Multimedia" and a music player mp3 widget is there now! You can upload a song into it, or choose it from the file manager! I love the updates in the site builder! :)

  Do you mean it is playing on all of the other post pages? I think once you add a widget to the blog's homepage, (not the website homepage, right?) it will be on all of the whole blog since it is a Blog page.

  Have you added the music to a blog post or the blog page? If you have added it to the page, it may play throughout your site.
  If you would like to add music to a blog post, you need to do the following:
  - click on the "HTML" button on the Text Editing Toolbar
  - Paste this code into the HTML editor:
  
  (Replace music.mp3 with name of your uploaded file. If you've put the file in a folder, remember to include the folder name, lik this... resources/folder/music.mp3.)
  - Preview the post and then republish your site

Hi Kristine. I don't think it is possible to add extra words in it. But you can remove the file address below the widget. Just go on your page and copy the mp3 widget, but not the text below it (unless you have to) Now, paste it into a text widget and the widget will still be there and if you want to change the song just click on the text widget and on the text editing toolbar click the last one that reads "HTML" Now, you can find the URL of your song in that code and change it but be sure to keep "resources/" in it or it wont work.

Hello Farhan Fk

The Yola File Widget makes it easy for you to create a link to a file, so that people can view it on your site or download it. Here is how to upload a file so that people can view or download it from your site:

1. Drag and drop a File Widget onto your page from the Sidebar on the right (the icon for this looks like a computer disk).
2. A dialog box will open and you can choose to upload a file or browse file manager. Please select which option you would like to use to upload your file.
3. When you click "OK" a link to your file will automatically be created. To test that it is working, save and preview your page.

People will then be able to click on your link and download your MS Word file, PDF, PowerPoint presentation, spreadsheet or whatever file you have uploaded.

Hint: To download the file, right click on the link, and then select "save as" from the pop-up menu (Mac users: ctrl+click).

I hope this answers your question. Please let me know if it does not.

Hi waguilar,

An easy way is to upload your files into the File manager. You can do this one at a time or you can add multiple files. If you are on a free subscription then you are limited to a files size of 5 Mb but the storage limitation I think is 1 Gb so you won't have problems with capacity. Just need to watch your individual file sizes. If you have Bronze or Silver your file sizes are increased and your capacity as well.

On your desired page you can then place a link to a file and as many links as you prefer. Clicking on the link will play the music. Right clicking on the mp3 link will allow your users to download the file onto their own pc.

You can also "play" the music files with some graphical interface by using various Google Gadgets or other mp3 players found throughout the web and places like Widgetbox is a good resource also. This is available in your site builder sidebar. These gadgets and widgets are free. Finally there are commercial players out there that have extra bells and whistle for the real music gadget fans and they allow sampling blah, blah , blah. :)
