Inappropriate?Hi im 14 and I want to enter the best of synthasite what age do you have to be to enter?
-
Inappropriate?Hi Gareth,
I am sorry friend but the contest is only open to those 18 years of age or older.
There are legality reasons for the (18 or older) and the winner has certain obligations that she or he has to fulfill before claiming the prize and valuable resources offered by our esteemed host Vinny.
I hope that doesn't spoil your fun here building your site... You never know maybe they will soon have a under 18 contest ;)
Ed -
Hi there, Gareth. Don't let this fact deter you, though. You'll still have an awesome time, and based on all the knowledge and help from everyone around here, you'll no doubt create a fantastic site. Synthasite is a brilliant facilitator and the community's awesome. And who knows, as Ed had mentioned..maybe in time a competition for under 18's will be introduced. -
Inappropriate?Dearest ED,
I think that you are completely over analyzing what was offered through Glen and I's posts. I was simply showing gratitude towards a free service and felt kind enough to offer my services to "SynthaSite Users" only at a Highly Discounted rate. That meant that I would be doing THEM a favor, not ME a favor by advertising my services. You're suggesting that I made a cheap advertisement through this forum, and I take offense to that statement. I am a very successful Freelance Web Designer and I've achieved that success through strict word of mouth and referrals. I've seen many attempts to "name drop" personal websites on SynthaSite which YOU and BOOMER have both participated in. For example:
Boomer "I'm loving this - Hey guys, while you on that synthasite.com
page, just click on forsite. (Google notices these things you know)"
Now what would you say that is implying?
Enough said....
I don't have much more time to defend my actions over such an unnecessary comment on your part so I'll get to my main point.
GLEN: You did a very nice thing. I personally bookmarked your website and plan on contacting you for future work. Because you are talented and I support anyone who wants to go the extra mile to help someone out.
ED: Don't think so hard next time. I completely understand your point, and it's a great one. But no need to draw attention to someone's post when it was done strictly out of an act of kindness. Not everybody needs so badly the traffic from SynthaSite users.... (sorry)
BOOMER: Nothing in life is free. SynthaSite will surely be making their fair share of profits in time for their services offered. I work to hard and care about my work too much to tarnish it by offering it for free.
SYNTHASITE: I love you guys! I plan on in the future developing a company targeted towards the use of synthasite (we'll talk soon...) Thank you for your services and your dedication to customer service. We all value this forum and will treat it respectfully.
Thank you and have a great night!
I’m thankful for the sport of golf

Just to make it abundantly clear to everyone else who is to read this...
Out of months on the forum and the nearly 700 replies and hundreds and hundreds of hours of my own time helping fellow members (FOR FREE) I have in all this time said dozens and dozens of times go here to this page I have created to find a tutorial I wrote especially for you and your problem and or file you need. I have created countless pages and sites just to example a fix or how to do something for someone else.
NEVER once have I said go here and buy this program or please sign up for this or that. Not once...
Just to let you know... My first comment and reply on this topic was in fact to keep another member from posting their much more opinionated thoughts and as I am a frequent fixture here in the forums I thought it best to keep that other from posting theirs and rewrite it so that it would not be as harshly taken. Sadly, either way it was... I am however glad it was me who had taken the heat for saying it because not only are they a good person and don't need the grief but I am a big boy and can handle some harsh words from another without the need to retaliate or be condescending.
My opinion is not so dissimilar to theirs and I leave what I wrote as it stands. Lets not let this snowball any further and lets not get defensive or say something which defames the character of two members here who help above all others. I help others daily with their problems and will continue to do so until I cannot or I see something which would make me not do so. Offers for service is sadly high on my list...
It never really was a concern of mine other than for enjoyment but for your information these are my stats. I put it to you... Besides some of the reps I have the most replies of any member here and have filled in when I knew the reps were either away or busy with bug fixes or working on updates. Find another who has helped as I and not said check this site or that program out...
* You have started 48 topics. 161 people are following them.
* You have made 674 replies. They have been marked useful a total of 34 times.
Out of over 30 employees only 3 have higher replies than me as a member (they have months and nearly a year longer at it than I do). Out of all the members and all the employees I have started the most topics to help others with things I have learned. Out of all the members and all the employees I have the most members following my replies. I have members come to me for help and by your comments of me name dropping to get traffic I don't want any of them who read each and every one of my posts to try to better there own sites to think I do it for any reason other than to help them. Please don't put false doubt into their heads. As far as traffic hunting here in the forums goes... Why would Boomer or myself need the traffic of a few hundred when we both are featured on the company home page and get the traffic that they do? I think we get more than enough site traffic and requests for help in our mailbox to keep us occupied long into the night. I personal have more requests than time in the day and cannot fall asleep until the majority I get are answered.
Please take my words shared so that another member did not have to as an opinion of what we don't want to see this forum turn into. That's it... There was no attack on either of you. It was simply something that you had stated that had this individual bothered and then another followed your lead in offering their services. This person and I just thought to catch it before it turned into something more...
That's my two cents and all she wrote so to speak. I do wish you well and hope that we can be friends... Your valuable knowledge is going to benefit so many here and I know that you will have quite the following reading your every word...
I hope this doesn't ruin any chance of you doing some artwork for me... I quite enjoyed your work especially (babyschwag) ;) -
Ed,
No hard feelings, I apologize if I came off a little too strong. We all have the common goal of helping each other, new users and old.
Water under the bridge my friend! We both spoke our peace and we're done bickering like an old married couple :)
Have a good night! -
Cool
Later i will get in touch about some logos I was thinking about... ;)
Glad we got all this sorted out amicably as friends. It makes the forum that much better.
Good night and I'll say it again... Happy site building everybody

Inappropriate?I just want to ask, is the judging depends solely on the result of public volting?
Thank you.

www.digitalretouching.co.nr -
I went over the T&C's etc the other day. I could be very wrong, though I think public nominations is just a representative vehicle for Synthasite judges. Once we've done all of the voting, I think they will then discuss and decide the winner based on their unanimous decision. Like I said, I could have misunderstood what I was reading and be completely wrong. Though if I'm right...at the end of the day, how many times we vote for someone or how many votes that person receives from the public -it won't affect the outcome. Actually, I think this is what Charlene mentioned the other day. -
Inappropriate? So, voting is just one of the criteria that the judges may look into and the final decision will still be from them themselves?

www.digitalretouching.synthasite.com -
I believe so... Though if I'm just talking a lot of bollocks; someone will correct me. -
Yep...I just had a look at Charlene's reply to one of my questions a few days ago. If you scroll up further you'll see my question to Charlene asking if we're allowed to nominate for more than one site. And you'll see her reply there. I voted for four in the end...It was honestly just too hard to vote for one site. There are so many good ones. -
Actually yes. There are so many talented here. And i am enjoying looking in their works with different areas of website category. Yours is a good one too.

www.digitalretouching.synthasite.com -
Every time I go back to your site it looks better and better each time. And thanks...I'm not really aiming for it to be the best site or anything, though. I just want to be able to cater to the concepts that I have floating around my head; I still have so much more to do. That's not to say that I'm not competitive or anything; I'm just a lot more competitive with sports and stuff...this is more of a personal process for me more than anything else. Anyway, too much information. I must be getting tired. But keep up the good work anyhow. You're doing awesome, girl. -
Thank you L.iG
Have some rest now. It feels good you're always in this forum.

www.digitalretouching.synthasite.com -
Inappropriate?*laughs* Did you just imply that I have no life? I'm totally kidding. I agree with you...it's always nice to see people in here as often as possible. I think I'll head off and veg soon, though. Take care and have a wunnaful day tomorrow.

Inappropriate?I think everyone's entitled to an opinion..I honestly do...and this place should be no different to any other place..but there's just too much drama for me so I'm going to take a wee break from coming here. I think you guys are awesome, but I could get this in any universal chat room. Be nice to one another and catch you all in a while x
I’m tired

Inappropriate?Everyone have a happy drama-less day!!!
Someone mentioned Gimp earlier. I think Gimp is a very favorable program. I have photoshop myself (LOVE IT!!!). I even got my wife using photoshop for her digital scrapbooking. Gimp is a great program though. I used it before getting my hands on Photoshop. If you're familiar with Photoshop, you should be able to figure out Gimp.
the opensource market is a blessing for people that can't afford (and refuse to pay the OUTRAGEOUS prices for software nowadays) mainstream software. Open Office is becoming a better office suite each time it releases a version. I considered the move to Open Office until Office 2007 came out. I'm a fan of the tabbing. Sue me.
I use Firefox pretty much all the time. It's faster than Internet Explorer and less susceptible to viruses. Although, I'm liking Google Chrome lately for internet browser. If you haven't checked it out yet, it's free and it's a great internet browser.
Back to my point...there are dozens of free tools to help with getting things prepared for your site and any other services you might provide personally. Check out PortableApps.com. That is a great location to get a lot of useful tools that are FREE *and* PORTABLE so that you can put them on a jump/thumb/usb drive/kiosk (whatever you prefer to call it). In particular, NVU is a website editing program. I know SynthaSite has an excellent user interface, but if you ever want to detach and do some editing, NVU is good for that. Audacity Portable is a great audio editing program. I'm working on an intro to my site with a short sound clip...so I've been using Audacity for that.
Regarding the intro...my goal is that when you visit my site, I want a short intro clip to play (like 5 to 10 seconds) and then when the clip is over, my site how it is now is left showing. Anyone know how to do this? Have I lost anyone on what I'm trying to explain?
I know I ended up going off on a tangent and probably should have started a new topic, but it was the next thing in my busy mind after talking about Free programs! -
Thanks for all that Glen,
I can't help with the flash intros as I've never needed to use it yet.
Ed seems to be the pro in this dept. -
Glen,
are you trying to embed a Flash intro into your page? -
yes, I believe that is what I'm looking for. Can we embed flash on our SynthaSite sites? I know there are some limitations on html coding and I wasn't sure if this was one of them.
Basically, I want a flash intro. I'm envisioning an intro of a few of my pictures motioning across the page somehow and then ending with my logo and slogan. All this takes place 5 to 10 seconds and then the visitor is at my main page. Make sense? -
Makes perrrrfect sense buddy. Do you have AIM or anything? (AOL Instant Messanger) or Skype? so we can speak further outside this forum? -
I do, but I have to do it outside of work because my work has chat disabled on everything. B*stards! How dare they keep my extracurricular activities out of work!!
you can email me directly: glen.bramlitt@gmail.com -
Inappropriate?Hi glen
I wish I could stay up longer to answer this one for you but I am working on a 23 hour day on the comp so I am going to have to share what I know about flash intro popups on page load this evening.
If you can manage to wait I can help you then.
Ed -
Inappropriate?I know this is off topic...but i wanted to share with everyone what I've been doing the last few days to show 1) how much I like the blogging function synthasite now has, 2) Why I haven't posted in the last few days, 3) why I think my site is a good candidate, and 4) just cuz I like bragging and my latest airbrush piece is off the chain!!
http://glenbramlittcreations.synthasi...
As always, site critiques are welcome. Do the pages load slow? Any suggestions for a better layout? Maybe a third-party imaging program? I need to be able to show off my pictures, but I don't want to overload my site.
