Can users set up subdomains under a custom domain?
Will Yola allow end users to set up their own subdomains under a custom, top level domain, just as is currently done under the Yolasite domain name? (This would be a highly desirable feature.)

Inappropriate?What he means is: If he buys a top level domain (e.g. www.yoursite.com), can other people setup their own subdomains (e.g. subdomain.yoursite.com).

You can set up subdomains for your custom domain if you would like (ie food.restaurant.com), but it would not be possible for you to have other people set up subdomains of your custom domain.

for other users to set up subdomains under your custom domain - like yola for example... how we (the users) create a site. Yolasite is the custom domain and we set up oursite.yolasite.com.. If I'm not mistaken, doesn't this take php or similar languages and server-side scripting as well?

You can have as many as you want, unless there is some limit.

There is no limit of subdomains. Here is a little tutorial on how to set up your subdomains using the Advanced Domain Settings and setting up A Records, here's how:
1. Login to your Yola account and make sure you are on the "My Sites" page.
2. Scroll down to the bottom of the page and tick the box next to "Enable advanced domain settings".
3. You will be scrolled back up to the top, click on "Advanced domain settings".
4. To access the domain settings, click on [Details] next to the related domain.
5. To access the A Record, click on [Edit this?] next to DNS Entries.
6. You'll need to add to add two A Records, make sure that "A" is selected next to "Add a new DNS Record Type" and click on the "Add" button.
7. Under "Name" add the subdomain you would like to use (eg. group).
8. Under "Value" add Yola's IP address (208.75.208.172).
9. On the second A Record, under "Name" add *.name (where name is your subdomain) and the IP address is the same.
9. Your subdomain is then available as www.group.mysite.com (for example).
10. You will be able to publish a new site to that subdomain by choosing "Use my Domain" when clicking on "Publish my Site".

Inappropriate?but in order to have access to the "details" section Sanja is referring to, the custom domain has to be purchased through yola. If you purchase it through another company (godaddy.com) for example, you don't have access to that area of yola. I know because I don't have access to that area but I DO have a custom domain.2 Comments Add a comment

yea, it is easier to purchase a domain through the site creator itself and generally provides you with more options. I would have but I was tight on money (in fact I had none) so someone else purchased it for me. Because of this I get it at a cheaper (but lesser) value from a third party.

Would this apply to our situation where we have a website in spanish and its counterpart in english ?
Currently we have an introduction page where you can choose between english or spanish. The intro page is located in www.wwrc.ca and the english version is www.wwrcenglish.yolasite.com. We would like to have the english version as wwrcenglish.wwrc.ca

Inappropriate?I don't think that's exactly what he's looking for. Your english site is a subdomain of YOLA. He's looking to host his own sub domain. notice how your custom domain is www.wwrc.ca? a subdomain would be www.wwrcenglish.WWRC.ca

Inappropriate?basically... his custom domain and his sub domain would be two or more sites but linked to one site. like the example I used above with a www.yahoo.com and music.yahoo.com or mail.yahoo.com (yahoo.com is the custom domain and music.yahoo.com is a different site - subdomain and mail.yahoo.com is a different site - also subdomain)...
