Delays on Yola
Hi Yola support,
For three days the Yola suite has been very slow here. I can't get to the bottom of it.
My pages both in the builder and published rarely get to the complete version. I've pinged various external sites and they return acceptable replies. I've run the piriform cleaner, I've defragged the computer, I've cleared the cache on all browsers. No virus, malware or anyhting that shouldn't be there. Nothing significant added to the computer. I'm lost.
GS:Yola has shown delays of upto 7 minutes.
All ideas welcome.

Inappropriate?I've been living with this for a while now as well, but did not want to complain for fear that it was something on my side. It could be that my site is getting more resource intensive and I've put it down to this, but it does seem to be getting worse.
If the site builder does not load within the first minute, I close it and retry, because after that it never loads. What sometimes seems to work, is if I load a smaller page first, like my contact page instead of the index page.
Once in the site builder, all the other pages load smoothly. It's as if the site builder has to get past a certain "sticky" point before it continues.
Could it be, because of the exponential growth of yola, that the servers are struggling to keep up, and it's just a matter of time before you guys catch up.
I don't have any problems with the published sites loading though, Peter.
My internet connection if fine for everything else.
I’m also unsure
-
Inappropriate?Hi Boomer,
Thanks for answering this man.
I have observed similar with the builder. Your sticky observation happens to me as well. I hadn't tried to open on a minor page. The site is becoming more resource rich for sure but I'm also reducing page resources as much as I can.
My published pages have only very recently slowed down and there is also coincidentally a fourfold increase in numbers of viewers but can't believe that would slow it down significantly.
Too many variables and too little expertise for me to objectively identify possibilities.
I wish I could say my internet connection was fine but that too is a huge variable.
-
Inappropriate?Hard problem to pinpoint because it does not happen to everyone - I don't have the symptoms you have both mentioned. As its in the site builder more than on published sites you would have to presume its a piece of your content slowing the load or unable to load in the editor
- have you done relevant speed tests on a Yola test site with no content added?
-
Hi Lee. Thanks for coming in on this. I have done what I think are relevant speed tests such as pinging, gateway analysis as the site loads. If there are other tests that you can advise me to do I would be most grateful.
The connection is also ADSL which is of course another complication. -
does it not make any difference what (if any) content is in the builder? -
Inappropriate?Peter, I have a 32Kps speed and it seems to load fast, have you cleared you cache? they may reduce your speed for a period of time
-
Inappropriate?I also just done a ping test here is my results

Inappropriate?Hi All
Thank you for your detailed reporting on this issue. I am going to do some research from our side and get back to you.
In the meantime if any of you could note times of day and time zones when you experience these problems that would be helpful.
Something that would also help is if you have a test site without much content on it that you try to open when you are experiencing delays as a point of comparison. This would help us figure out if it is larger sites that are affected, or the site builder in general.
Performance is our highest priority and we are constantly working on improving this, so your feedback is appreciated. -
Inappropriate?Hi Monique, i logged in to my account and click on create a new site, and it took me 13.45mins for the window to fully load, i am using a 32kps connection so i think that maybe normal

32kps is a very slow connection - mobile connections are faster than that here. What is that, dial up? im using 8mb here at my house, my parents have 32mb - notice mb not kb. That can not be the average australlian speed? -
Au has a max of 10mbs... I am on Pre-Paid and have completed my 1GB for the last 2 weeks, so from a 512/1012 connection to a 32kps.... I wish there was another ISP that also did prepaid... I am using Broadband wireless (unwired.com)... also they are upgrading to 200mbs and it costs you $200 a month for that speed -
Inappropriate?I'm disregarding my recent camping trip, where I was on a slow connection.
This problem started before this, and is still there now.
It is bearable for me and I was waiting for someone else to complain first.
Like I said, I put it down to yola growth, as my index page on forsite has not
changed for weeks.
Mabe it's a routing issue. Maybe my connection sometimes goes via
Thailand, LOL. Sometimes I get up and make a cup of tea (yes I do sometimes drink tea) and come back 15 minutes later and the site builder loads quicker. I dunno. I've gotten use to it I guess.
-
There are some growing pains - we are busy with the cure for those. In the meantime we need to figure out if something else is also going on. Going to go and open a few sites now and see what happens. -
Speaking of times. The last two days I've noticed a slow down in the late afternoon and I was thinking this was due to the US users coming on line.
There are a lot more of them and I assume they make up most of yola traffic.
I'll jot down some times in future to see if there is a pattern. -
Thanks Boomer - that is a helpful pattern to take note of. -
Inappropriate? It could well be all of those things. Now at 17:15 an observation that I do an update and then check the published and it hasn't come through. I check again and still it hasn't. A third time it has.
-
Inappropriate?WINDOWS USERS - Check that you do not have automatic updates working at the same time as the speed test - Windows Update and AVG plus many others try to update daily if they can - this has to be taken into consideration when testing speed.
-
Inappropriate?Performance is very good on my end for the site builder and published sites, but we will keep an eye on this.
-
Inappropriate? My problem is more of a "loading" vs "not loading at all" of the site builder.
Loading the site builder does seem to vary slightly depending on times
of the day and the size's of the page's that are loading also affects the
loading speeds. My index page takes 20 sec to load at the moment (12H55).
I know from experience that later on today it may not load at all!
It takes a couple of attempts. Seems like a bottle neck in yola traffic.
At the time I always test to see if it's my connection that is broken, by
opening another tab or two and loading something else. Most of the time,
my connection if fine and fast.

Inappropriate?Hi all,
We use a service that monitors the time it takes to open a site in the Site Builder from various locations in the world - New York, San Francisco, London, and others. This is a full from-scratch visit to the site - all the same things your browser does when you load up your site.
We have noticed an increase in time taken to load a site in the past couple of day from some of these locations, but not from all of them. We're currently attributing this to general Internet connectivity, as there is not an increase in all of them.
If it helps, we also keep track of how much traffic we use, and we're doing about our usual amount, so we don't think we are experiencing any bottlenecks at the moment.
It does seem that a noticeable amount of our users are experiencing problems though, so we'll keep looking into this to see what we can do to improve things. -
Inappropriate?Hi All,
We have made some changes to improve the response time of the SiteBuilder. Our monitoring service shows early signs that performance has improved to some degree.
We will continue to work on improving the overall response of both the SiteBuilder and published sites. -
Inappropriate?Thank you all and Neill & Brent for the effort and specific information.
-
Inappropriate? If Yola has there own servers and webhost, check all Ethernet lines for faults and make sure you bandwidth upload is strong, if not then that may be the problem. Your server may hold a excess of unused files try to clear as much space as possible and look at the logs and Troubleshoot the issue. This can be a number of various problems, this can help you.
1. Make sure the server load is low or medium not high otherwise your overloading and someone has to wait until it is at a reasonable amount again.
2. Make sure your data disk are not Old, Full or any data corrupted.
3. If these issues continue, shut the server down for 1-2 hours use a secondary server and put its down for maintenance.
Otherwise your Disk drives will blow out or overload.
Good Luck,
-Frostbytez -
Inappropriate? Is it my imagination or is there a marked difference in the
response time of the SiteBuilder since the Yola update ??
I’m looking out for speed traps !
-
Yes Boomer, it is moving exceptionally well I agree! Our Yola engineers deserve a big round of applause! -
Really? Did they do something to speed it up ?
I can never trust my connection you know ! -
Hi Boomer,
We have implemented a number of performance improvements to the SiteBuilder. There will be improvements to both the SiteBuilder and your published sites in the near future. I'm glad that you noticed the difference!
