Feature Request!!!
Yola should autosave a page to a "draft" folder being worked on every ten minutes for emergency purposes. I just lost two hours of work because I forgot to save the page and my browser stopped responding.

please please please. i've lost many blog post because of this -- esp when one is half written and then when i return to it the next day, spend time finalizing it, then click to finish it and it's gone .... because yola has logged me out. it's really infuriating.

3Thanks for the suggestion. This feature is definitely under consideration. Autosave as well as the ability to revert to earlier saves would be extremely useful.
It is one that I am very strongly in favor of after dealing with so many distraught customers who have lost work or messed up their sites beyond repair!

yea, well... I stole the idea from MS Word. As I'm working on something in MS Word after every so often, MS Word auto saves and if MS Word closes unexpectedly or you turn off the computer without saving your work, next time you open MS Word it opens a list of previously auto saved documents that you can open and save to your computer or continue working on.
I can't tell you how many times I've lost what I was working on in Yola because my browser quit working. -

You didn't strike out here I believe you hit a home run
Great Idea

yea, :) I bet a lot of people would decrease the amount of time lost. I'm probably not the only one that loses work.
I found out, it was because of bad code. EVEN THOUGH I PASTED IN FROM NOTEPAD. I went to the EXACT place and while trying to create a numbered list, my browser stopped responding again, -

lol, yea, I've lost so much time from computer trouble it ain't funny. Like I was saying, I lost two hours of work because I didn't save when my browser decided to quit responding. :(, now I'm saving after every widget I complete - which is a royal pain in the butt but saves time in case of computer problems.

I can't tell you how many times the Gmail auto-save feature has saved my butt after writing a long email and subsequently having my wireless flake out when trying to send :).
In an online app like Yola, having auto-save is probably much more useful than the already-useful Gmail use case I related.....definitely a fan of this proposed feature! -
-
yea, MySpace mail auto saves to your draft folder every couple of minutes too.
-
-
Same with Yahoo.
It actually wouldn't be that hard to make, PHP Coding is easy :\ -
-
I would really love this auto-save feature as well!!
-
-
i love this 1 aswell. but hoe long until it is realese like the membership thing that been asking for about 1 year!!
-
-
yea, I said in another thread... I'm debating whether or not it's even possible for Yola to create a membership log in. Doesn't that require server-side scripting?

I would love see more theme designs with windows xp colors, borders, etc, especially the blue and green colors!!

I would like to be able to auto save log in and password to save having to keep re-entering each time. For two days running I am having problems logging in. It says they have nobody at my email address. The passwords are case sensitive, so it would be really useful if we could auto save them.

Using Firefox, you can easily save passwords by going to Tools/Options/Security and enabling the "remember passwords for sites".
You also have the option to protect your saved passwords by using a Master password.
Another option is to use the add-on LastPass which stores encrypted passwrds on an online server.
the passwords can then be reached from other computers when web connected and with LastPass installed.
The above only works for Firefox users, but generally that is what I use. -

This would be wonderful I have lost so many posts, it is so frustrating
-

One way around this is to save the page often, everytime you do something significant.
An autosave feature is handy though as long as it does not overwrite previous work that may be more valid than the edited page.
When I experiment with a page, I save it first to a new page and than start editing, in case I need to revert back to the original page. -

I'm putting in my thumbs up for auto save! I just lost 90 minutes of work to browser malfunction. I see this idea was given four months ago - do they ever respond???
Also - in the online store feature - how can you get rid of the "NO IMAGE AVAILABLE" icon that is taking up much room? I'm offering music - no images, but would love to give a sample audio. -

Hello Paige
There are many requests and features that are asked of Yola and we do consider them all. Unfortunately, we are not able to give the same priority to all requests or features wanted. Please know that ideas and feedback given by our Yola users are valued and considered.
Unfortunately at this time it is not possible to remove the image area from the Online Store widget. If you choose not to put an image in that area the area will show with "No Image Available". If it is important for you not to have this image area there, you could create your own PayPal button and add it to your page using an HTML Widget. This would eliminate the need to use the widget and then you would not need to have that image area displayed.
Here's how:
1. Sign into your PayPal account.
2. Click the "Merchant services" tab in the horizontal menu.
3. Click the "Buy Now Button" or the "Add to Cart Button".
4. Choose button type and enter name, payment details and/or product options
5. Click "Done".
6. When done editing click "Create Button".
7. In the next window and in the (Website) code box click the "Select Code".
8. Right click on the highlighted text and click "Copy".
9. Open your site editor and drag an HTML Widget where you need it.
10. In the HTML Widget paste the code.
11. Then Update your site.
I'm sorry we don't have another option at this time. I hope you will be able to use this as a workaround. -

I have had the same problem over the past few weeks. There appears to be an "outside influence" at work and no one can seem to determine from where. My MS Security Essentials hasn't picked up anything but it's happening. I have pages while in the midst of working just vanish. I've had fonts in a initialized script flash appear then vanish. Once I format entries in order to make changes I have to cut and paste to NotePad, delete the Text box from my blog, add a new one, then cut and paste back in. Too weird. Your suggestion would be so awesome.

It's a great idea. However, you could also create your work in notepad and have it saved on your computer, So that any editing you require can be done prior to posting. I generally use the copy and paste options because not all browsers are stable and if for any reason (lord forbid) yola goes down and certain things are lost on their server, you could lose everything anyway. So all is best when backing up your stuff on your own system.
-
right. and when i spent the summer working in liberia i wrote all of my emails in word for that reason. it's still a clunky solution, and most users are accustomed to being able to write an email and have the draft saved. should be a standard and obvious feature for any good blog product IMO.

But then again, what if you don't want it on your computer...?

Autosave has been on our product backlog for a while, and is definitely something we would like to do in the future. It's, as always, just a matter of prioritizing that against other features we want to build to improve the sitebuilder, but all of the feedback like this is very helpful for doing that.
Thanks!! -
-
That would be GREAT! Then you could just keep working and working and if something happened, you wouldn't have to worry!
-
Yeah I agree. Hopefully it's added soon.

Thanks for the feedback! We appreciate hearing that this is a feature you'd still like to see!

Love the idea im not much of a stranger to this my self, building on this idea it would be nice if you could add a side on feature of this a "recycle bin" just like in windows it would be nice if you could be able to go into a recycle bin and pull out a site if "like me" you've clicked on delete site and not delete page (big difference i know) but when youve been working on a site for much longer then you really should in one go then you start to get a little dozzy lol. once again great idea!
-
Fortunately Yola has now made it very difficult to delete your whole site by accident. You have to type in that you want to delete it first. :)
-
-
Yup but i thought that it ment to delete the page lol as i said too many hours sitting at a computer screen dose thins to your mind that no one wants. in my case it was PUT YOUR GLASSES ON! LOL

SOLUTION:
For Firefox users there is a way to stop losing all your work due to errors / frozen web browser. Head to the link below and install the 'Lazarus' add-on.
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/fire...
Once installed it will auto-save as you type, and if you loose all your work for some reason, just go back into the same page / widget, right click in the text box and select 'Recover Form', and all your work will be back.
Hope this helps :) -

Eyes Half Closed,
Cool! But not everyone has Firefox. So there is a Google Chrome version!

There, I will get this right now!

oooh please please do add an autosave feature! That's good that the other browsers can sort it but i like to use IE even though everyone else hates it it's just what I'm used to! I have found myself wishing for autosave a good few times on Yola, my internet connection is not so fast, especially at peak times my open, half edited site always freezes :(

Thanks Sarah W for adding your two cents worth on this topic. We appreciate it.

Hello everyone. This is a great feature. But as a experienced developer, I know it wont be too easy to add.
First of all, yola will need a Database, which is the easy part, and then get the information you typed every couple of seconds. I could develop a autosave with just Javascript. But it would run on Cookies. And it could not be implemented into Yola.
But it could be an example to yola -
-
Yola, here is a little example I made with Javascript.
Its just an example of how it would work:
http://jsfiddle.net/PGCfG/show/
Enjoy,
Shawn Holman-
It does autosave. But I just have that button there. If you click on the textarea and wait 10 seconds it will autosave.

I would love to have more option controls in mobile publishing (I know it is still in beta mode..). My site has a very busy background, taken care of with your new box placement ideas. It looks amazing, I have customers always telling me that they LOVE my site. I want to post a mobile site, but I cannot, because all you see is my busy background and little tiny black font. It becomes lost and you can hardly read it. I guess what I am trying to say is that I would love to be able to have a 'remove background image' button.
Also, app creating and hosting would be awesome as well.. just throwing it out there ;) -

Hello Candice
I would like to look at your site. Could you please provide your URL? Thanks. -
-
-
-
Oh right, I tried to track your Yola account by this URL, but I made a typo ...
Ok, so I had a look at your mobile version, and I can see what you mean. This is actually something that I will bring to the attention of our designers. I was surprised to see that I couldn't change at least the colour of your font. Although it is set to white, the font is still black. And it seems we could need a "disable background image" feature or something like that.
I'm sorry that it's right now not possible to change this, Candice, but I will definitely follow up with the font colour problem. I hope we will also be able to improve this feature in future. Will keep you updated! -
