There are a few issues you need to keep in mind that could help you to answer this question:
1) The search engine spiders crawl the web every few days to index all the new content that is published on the web. So it takes a little bit of time from the moment when your site is published until the search engines index it.
2) It depends what search term you are using when you google your site. If it is something very specific and unique (like your site title) then you have a better chance of showing up in a search. If it is something really general related to your site like for example "pet products" - take a look at all the search results that appear (for that search term I got: "Results 1 - 10 of about 15,500,000 for pet products") The first page only shows the first 10 results, the next page the next 10 and so on. So once your site is indexed, it may be somewhere on that list, but depending on how broad or narrow or competitive your search term is, that is the competition you face to appear prominently in the search results!
3)Google uses a complex formula to determine how highly your page ranks. No one knows what the formula is, but there are some general principles you can use to improve the ranking of your site. Your site will do better if you have a) outbound links (links from your site to other sites)
and 2) inbound links (links from other sites to your site.) Inbound links are the most important. They drive traffic to your site by referring visitors from other sites to your site. Google is looking to see that you are an authority on your subject and the way Google calculates this is based on how many links you have to and from your site.
One of our users posted a great article on how to get more traffic to your site. You can read his very easy and practical suggestions here//getsatisfaction.com/SynthaSite/topics/how_can_i_get_more_visitors_to_my_site

Inappropriate?Hi Brian,
It does take time for search engines to find your site, you aren't going to achieve first page ranking immediately. However, there are steps you can take to speed up the process. You can read about them in this thread here: http://getsatisfaction.com/SynthaSite...
Also a great place to start is to share your site with our SynthaSite community, and you can do that at this thread here: http://getsatisfaction.com/SynthaSite...
Good luck!

Inappropriate?this is great information. I went to http://www.google.com/addurl/
and submitted my site. I also went to www.dmoz.org to submit my site as well. This was a little bit more tedious because you have find the right category to list your site. I hope I picked the right one. :)
you can als try the local search engines if you have a business site like http://www.sfstation.com/ or http://siliconvalley.citysearch.com/ in my case.
I noticed that Google also have a feature that i would like to use but can't because of the way our webpages are created. Can we add meta tag code to our synthasite pages so google can verify our pages? I know we can't add an html page because you use .php so the metatag code is the only other option.
At any rate i am excited and have launched my first website. I can't wait to be picked up in the search engines. http://cornrowsandpigtails.synthasite...

Yes you can add meta tags to your site. Go to google and get the meta tag and go to your edit page and click and drag the html widget to the bottom of the page. A box with code will pop-up clear the code, go back to google and copythe code it gives you, come back to edit page and paste it in the html box and that's it. You can and should apply this to all of your pages, if you need help let me know.

Tried what was suggested with the Metafile, but google said that it was in the wrong location (google specifies it to be the first item on the page). Any ideas? -
Hi Beauty, love your sites. I have a few suggestions.
*on your beauty site you might want to add headers (bold titles) for the different sections of your tips. Or number them one by one. The will make it easier to read your pages. Just like you have it on your new tips page.
*and check your spelling. :)
*also later down the line you can look into Google adsense to help you generate some income on your site. You might have to check with your parents to help you set up an account.
*The link to your babysitting site on the beauty tips page has a typo so it is pointing to the wrong place.
*On your Babysitting page you have 2 different email addresses to contact you. you might want to narrow that down to one.
I must say though you are an awesome kid. I am very inpressed by your website and professionalism. I can see you becoming a very sucessful young lady. -

sweet, thank you for your patience. I'm a little confused as to what it is you need help with. what is a popuer tool?
And the URL you have provided is not valid. Could you please give us more information so that we can help you? -
I think Sweet meant " popular too".
can't tell you what's up with the url other than the obvious, the url should read http://funchatrooms.sythatsite.com/ but like Ruth said it is invalid.
Sweet please relist your URL again. -
Hi sweet
The most important things you can do to make your site more popular is to add good, fresh content to it as often as you can. You need to have a clear idea of that your site is about: what need does it meet or what problem does it solve for people? What will make people want to visit your site and keep them coming back for more? The other important thing is to get other sites to link to you. Advertise your site in social networks that you take part in, like Facebook or Myspace. Be careful to spell the URL (web address) correctly so that people can find your site. The URL of your site is http://funchatrooms.synthasite.com. You seem to be offering a way for people to connect and communicate - which is a great place to start. I like the fact that you have a strong warning about internet safety on your homepage. Good conversations take a while to get going, but once they do they tend to get a life of their own. Once you can get people talking on your site, find out what interests them and develop your site from there. No really popular website got that way in a hurry, so how successful your site will be will depend to a large degree on how much effort you put into it. -
Inappropriate?please check out my site..please tell me what can i do the best for my site..

Any ideas, anyone? Hope nothing is wrong with the site, eg something blocking GoogleBot from reading it.
Thanks.
Oh yeah, have a look at my site ... young couples and young families may find some useful information :)

Hi Salemlight78, I like your site. I can totally see it become a magazine. the only thing I didn't like about your site was the page style. I don't think it should be a black background and there are a lot of add crammed at the top left of your articles. Maybe spreading out your ads more would be better. -
Hi Salemlights78 - here's a post that has all the details on adding a sitemap to Google Webmaster: http://getsatisfaction.com/SynthaSite.... If you're still struggling, please send an email to us in Support by clicking on Help > Contact Support. -
Thanks, anacomics for your input on the background colour. Have decided to keep the background, because I think it gives it a 'professional look' ... at least I like it .. hehe .. also because I dont like white backgrounds and I can't find another suitable template with vertical menu's:) The ad's are there ... and please bear with me ... because apart from the potential revenue (let's be honest, we all want that!) I think that ad's based on content, ie reflect the content of the webpages on my site actually add to the resources available to readers who want to find information and products related to young families, children, education, finance, etc. I will, however, from time to time see where I can make it less cramped. Again, thanks for commenting :)
Marije, thanks for your assistance. You were right, of course, it just takes time for the site to be listed on Google. I hope that Google search will index more words from my site though ... again, I'm sure its just a matter of time for this to happen.
You guys at Synthasite are absolutely awesome! Great resource and even greater support. Cant thank you enough.

Inappropriate?I just published a site.... www.whiterivercedar.synthasite.com ....its not completed but it is published. I can pull it up just like any other website on my own computer, but I've had several people who cannot open it. My cell phone says "no results found" when I try it find it that way. Could someone please try to open it and let me know if its ok? I'm thinking maybe these other people just don't wanna wait for the pics to download or something. They've said the website shows up, but theres no pics or info or anything, like its a blank website. Thanks.
I’m worried that I put so much work into something that doesn't work correctly.
-
Inappropriate?I also have another site... www.lilithslairoftheozarks.synthasite... ...maybe someone could let me know how it looks so far.
-
Inappropriate?Hi Melanie
Some information on the animals in the photo gallery page would be nice. More words would also help people searching by description.
Does seem a bit cramped, though. Can't really place my finger on why.
Also can't see anything in the FAQ page ... my browser perhaps? Or is this page not yet complete?
Just my 2 cents worth :)

Inappropriate?I started a thread entitled google robots, From what i can gather google does search every few days or so, that's in the US, however in the UK it looks like every 25 days they do the big search. (i know that technically we are a small island, but i haven't seen the coastline in 15 years) I have scoured the web to find a way to speed up this process but it looks impossible.
For example. Google has all my pages listed in the index Dec 04 2008. It has me listed in the google local business section December 03 2008 but its memory for the search (cache) is November 15th 2008. I'm not a rocket scientist but i imagine the google key word and content memory is in a big way connected to the same dates as the cache. This can be a bit frustrating because you wont know if the updates you have made are effective for weeks, We all want our pages to rank as high as possible, its humnet nature, I think the answer is just patience, patience and a little more patience.. Book it and they will come , but later

Hey Jason - Have you submitted your sitemap to Google using Webmaster Tools? Here's the tutorial: http://www.synthasite.com/tutorials/g... .
That may not speed up anything, but at least it makes sure that Google has the information it needs to find all pages of your site! -
Inappropriate?hi chris, yep did that and they are still not coming, i have looked at my competitors sites and the majority of them were cached on the same date and time as me so putting two and two together, if your fom the northwest of england you just have to wait a bit longer, maybe the google bots dont like rain ? or pigeons ?

Inappropriate?Verification status: NOT VERIFIED
Last attempt Dec 15, 2008: The verification meta tag is in the wrong location on the page. It must be within the first <head> section of the page.
Well, I placed my meta tag where it's supposed to be - (I followed the directions in the Synthasite FAQ's - which was great btw) and I added the meta tag to all my pages.......... (added in the space on the right hand side of my pages titled - "Google Webmaster Code") I then saved/updated (published) my site. So what do you think the problem may be?????
TIA
http://southpointshore.synthasite.com</head>
I’m confused
-
Inappropriate?Hi Southpoint Shore,
To verify your site with Google Webmaster you need to use the meta tag option. It is very important that you copy the correct portion of the tag in order to be successful. Copy only the letter/number string between the quotation marks and paste it in the designated field in the Properties sidebar.
For detailed, step-by-step, instructions on how to verify your site with Google Webmaster and submit a sitemap, please see our Google Webmaster Tutorial - http://www.synthasite.com/tutorials/g...
Can you please try this again and if you are still having problems, please let me know. -

Yep - that's what I did. I did a c/p of the portion between the "" and placed it in the box labeled "Google Webmaster...." on the Properties (right side of the page) bar........... I copied the response I got when I tried to verify. So, it seems as though it's not getting "pasted" into the correct area on my site. -

We have instructions on how to verify your site with Google Webmaster and submit a sitemap, please see our Google Webmaster Tutorial - http://www.synthasite.com/tutorials/g... My site has been created for roughly 3-4 months however i still can't find my site on Google. Is there any way you can tell if Google has recognised my site? I added Google Analytics today and then visited my site but showing no hits.
What am i doing wrong?
Also any other hints or tips would be greatly welcome.
Thanks in advance.

Make sure you have appropriate keywords on every page and update your site daily. For instance, I have an 80's website and use keywords in my sentences such as "80s" and "eighties" quite a lot. By the way, my site is http://simplyeighties.com -
Inappropriate?Hi Jehimoe,
It takes time for new sites to be picked up by search engines, and there's no guarantee that you'll show up for the searches you want to. There are however, things you can do to increase your ranking.
Search engines like Google show users the sites that they think the users will find useful. The most important things you can do to get your site indexed is to update your content frequently and get other related sites to link to your site. If users like your site enough to post a link to it, search engines begin to trust your site a little more. This also applies to visitors - the more visitors you have, the more likely search engines are to send other visitors to you. While many users have achieved good search engine rankings with a SynthaSite subdomain, using a custom domain name will make it easier for users to remember and revisit your site.
You can submit your site to Google through a program called Google Webmaster Tools. We have posted a tutorial that walks you through the steps to do so at http://www.synthasite.com/tutorials/g... When you submit your site, it's a matter of sitting back and waiting for Google's crawlers to reach your site. This could take as little as a few days, or as long as a few months. Unfortunately, this is out of our control.
You can also add tags to your pages to tell search engines what your site is about. These are key words which will help search engines identify your site. In the properties sidebar for each page you will see a field labeled "Keywords". Type your tags in there - your location, your business, what you offer etc. This is the place to put the sorts of things you'd expect people to be typing into search engines to find you. You should also add a description into the "Description" field - this should be a sentence or two describing your site. An example of a description would be "The Quick & Easy Website Builder that Requires NO Technical Skills and offers free website hosting." The "Window Title", which will become the title tag, is what shows up at the top of a browser when viewing your page, it will also be the text Internet users will click on in the search engine results pages (SERPS) to get to your site. An example of a title tag would be "ABC Store - Affordable Custom Widgets - Austin, Texas".
Here is a link to another tutorial that gives you some more tips on attracting visitors: Promoting your Website - http://www.synthasite.com/tutorials/p... We also have a thread in our forum with more info: SEO with SynthaSite - http://getsatisfaction.com/SynthaSite...
If you're a small business or affinity group, you may want to have a professional help get traffic to your site. Some businesses on SynthaSite have found it useful to work with an SEO (search engine optimization) company to improve their rankings and reach visitors. If you'd like to do so, we suggest speaking with our partner http://www.inlocal.com/?kbid=4268&m=20
If you want to see who is visiting your site, we suggest that you install Google Analytics. Here's how to do it:
1. Go to Google Analytics - https://www.google.com/analytics/ and sign up for a free account
2. Type in the URL of your site
3. Copy the verification code provided by Google
4. Go to SynthaSite and drag and drop a HTML widget at the bottom of each page you want to track
5. Paste the code from Google into the HTML editor on each page
6. Republish your site
Your site will then be verified and you can log into your Google Analytics account to find out all the information you want to know about the people who have visited your site. -

hi how nice --------- -
how i can find my webside in the google -
Inappropriate? The best way to get indexed by google is to add your link on your facebook page where it says share link ! get 3 or 4 friends to do it to and you'll be indexed much quicker. Then you need high pagerank links these will improve search engine rankings the more the better. get the google toolbar to see the pagerank of any webpage. Then look for high pr pages you can get links from.

Inappropriate? How do i get my website to come up on some search engines like google and yahoo....it hasn'st shown up on there yet for quite a bit now...im worried my website wont become popular..can someone help me plz?
I’m Frustrated
-
Inappropriate?Hi T Man,
I'm sorry you feel frustrated. It takes time for new sites to be picked up by search engines, and there's no guarantee that you'll show up for the searches you want to. There are however, things you can do to increase your ranking, have you tried these?
Search engines like Google show users the sites that they think the users will find useful. The most important things you can do to get your site indexed is to update your content frequently and get other related sites to link to your site. If users like your site enough to post a link to it, search engines begin to trust your site a little more. This also applies to visitors - the more visitors you have, the more likely search engines are to send other visitors to you. While many users have achieved good search engine rankings with a SynthaSite subdomain, using a custom domain name will make it easier for users to remember and revisit your site.
You can submit your site to Google through a program called Google Webmaster Tools. We have posted a tutorial that walks you through the steps to do so [here](http://www.synthasite.com/tutorials/g...).
An example of a description would be "The Quick & Easy Website Builder that Requires NO Technical Skills and offers free website hosting."
The "Window Title", which will become the title tag, is what shows up at the top of a browser when viewing your page, it will also be the text Internet users will click on in the search engine results pages (SERPS) to get to your site. An example of a title tag would be "ABC Store - Affordable Custom Widgets - Austin, Texas".
Here is a link to another tutorial that gives you some more tips on attracting visitors: Promoting your Website - http://www.synthasite.com/tutorials/p... We also have a thread in our forum with more information: SEO with SynthaSite - http://getsatisfaction.com/SynthaSite...
1. Go to Google Analytics - https://www.google.com/analytics/ and sign up for a free account.
2. Type in the URL of your site.
3. Copy the verification code provided by Google.
4. Go to SynthaSite and drag and drop a HTML widget at the bottom of each page you want to track.
5. Paste the code from Google into the HTML editor on each page.
6. Republish your site.
Your site will then be verified and you can log into your Google Analytics account to find out all the information you want to know about the people who have visited your site.
I hope some, or all, of the above is helpful to you. Now that your site is built and published you have taken the first big step towards having an online presence. From now on you should focus on developing and updating your site, and doing as much as you can to promote your site and attract visitors. It can seem like a slow process, and it is a challenge for all website owners, but anything you do towards this will help in the end. -
Thanks, I needed the help and my friend's and I have been putting in a bit of time of it...it isnt a real serious site. It honestly is a RS Guide site. -

Inappropriate?Don't forget to use the Google Adwords Keywords tool.
I guess it will take quite a while for my new site to get anywhere near the top of a search for "Free videos" or "Videos" etc.. There is a heck of a lot of competition.
However, by using a few niche keywords I hope to near the top of some other searches in the coming months. I use the Google Adwords keywords tool to help find different, yet popular keywords.

Inappropriate?this is a funny topic for me... I often get found by searches on yahoo, google, and bing and with getclicky I know the exact search. I'll then go and test it out by typing in that search into google or yahoo and I won't even be on the first ten pages. Just because you SEEM to not be appearing, doesn't mean you aren't! :)

Inappropriate?google has a hard time trying to figure picking up keywords from yola site dont no why but just happends,
tip get a .com name and it shud be better.
myne is a .co.nr and it appears on page with the free domains thing (.co.nr) -
I would not say that Google has a hard time picking up keywords from Yola sites; many Yola users have had lots of success with the search engines. A good thing to do is make sure that the keywords you put for a page are also on the page text and in your other meta tags. Here is a link to our Knowledge Book topic on meta tags: Adding Meta Tags.
You might also want to take a look at our SEO Tutorial Series.
Hope this helps! -
Inappropriate? To get listed in google, use facebook. Its way quicker than submitting your site, and can even work in 48 hours. Go to the post link bit, fill it in then send it to all your friends. Then sit back and wait.
As for knowing which search terms you appear for use google analytics it'll tell you everything about your websites visibility.

Inappropriate?THIS WILL FOR SHURE GET YOUR BLOG ON GOOGLE 100%
If you have a wordpress blog link your website there and in a day it will be on google instead of linking it every where do this and 100% sure it will be on google but put it on your wordpress blog like 6 times and your website will permanently stay on google the reason for this is because if you update you site you would have to update your blog and wait another whole day for it to be on Google so just link it 6 times and even if you update your site it will stay on google this wrks 100%
I’m confident that this will work

Depending on the Search Engine, you have to go to their "Webmaster Tools" and follow the steps. In Google's case, go here http://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/

Inappropriate?Just to let you know, we have our own instructions for adding the Google Webmaster code. Please see our Google Webmaster Tutorial. Google's are written on the assumption that you are coding the website from scratch. Our instructions are written to work specifically with Yola.

You are doing fine on text/descriptions and in fact that is one of the very best things you can do to help your site....Is your site new and have you created a Google Webmaster Account? Have you submitted your sitemap.xml with them? -
Inappropriate?I thought I submitted to Google Webmaster, but I can do it again. I just tried to get verified and I guess I never was? I tried to put in the Google Meta tag, but Google still cannot verify. I did the meta as a html on the home page? Help. Thanks
-
If you look up a few posts you will see where Sanja posted a link to Webmaster Tutorial....Follow the link and they have very good instructions to get you started correctly. -
Hello Irorabaugh,
You need to use the meta tag option to verify your site with Google Webmaster, not the HTML file option. We have a tutorial which will step you through this process as well as submitting a sitemap, here is a link: Google Webmaster Tutorial.

Inappropriate?hi, I first published my site (therecipebook.yolasite.com) a few months (maybe more) ago, and it is not on google. I typed in the domain and it came up with the facebook page i posted an update on, but not the actual site. It said that i ommited some results, so i repeated the search showing the omited results, and it still didnt show up. Is this anything that i am going wrong?
BTY, i was going to publicise it witht the links, but i got bored halfway down the page, so i stopped
I’m a bit cheesed off

Hi Will - there are a number of things that you can try but I would recommend that you first verify your site with Google Webmaster. We have a tutorial on this link: http://cs.yola.com/index.php?pg=kb.pa....
It's also worth reading through all the information we have on getting your site listed in search engines: http://www.yola.com/customer-support/... as there is a lot you can do to get your site listed. -
