Get bigger images upon clicking thumbs in lightbox gallery?

I love the Flickr lightbox widget and the way it works. There's 2 limitations that I want to work around, though:

1) Is there a way to get bigger images to open when clicking on the thumbnails?
The current size works nicely for vertically-oriented images, nonetheless, the max-width stays the same for landscape/horizontal images, which makes them look very small, loosing all details...

2) The order the images come out in is not always what I want. I found a work-around that involves uploading images in reverse order, one at a time (so that the most recent upload comes out first in the gallery)... but it is not always succesfull, and definitely does not work when wanting to put recent uploads at the end of the gallery (unless i want to upload everything again - and it doesn't always work anyhow).

I browsed around for other lightbox-type galleries and found a few that seem to go beyond these limitations:

LightBox web gallery generator - http://www.codeproject.com/KB/cs/Gall...
thickbox (seems interesting - also allows modal popups) - http://jquery.com/demo/thickbox/
LightBox 2.4 - http://www.huddletogether.com/project...

Before getting into the details of figuring out how to make them work, I was wondering if synthasite supports any of these? or if anyone had any other ideas or fixes?

Thanks!!
