Inappropriate?Hi Donnie
The best way to have others help you critic your site would be to post your published sites URL so all those here in the forums can share their opinions with you.
Just keep in mind that it is your website and you have the final say in what you think is needing change. Use their input to guide you but never change you. The important thing is to always make this a fun experience...
I cannot wait to see your site...
Happy site building

Inappropriate?donnie is it this Donnie http://furniture101.synthasite.com

yes. thats my web site. -
Inappropriate?Hi Donnie,
Please share your address with us so that we can take a look at your site.

Inappropriate?Hi Donnie
I dropped by your site to take a look at what you've created.
First off... I really like the background.
1. I noticed that in your header, you called your site "furniture101.synthasite.com" I would suggest coming up with a catchy name instead of using your web address. Or just shorten it to "Furniture 101"
2. Underneath your header, you have "furniture101.synthasite.com" again... I don't know if you intended that or not but I would suggest deleting that.
3. On your index page, you have descriptions under few of your photos. I find it a little difficult to read because of the font colour. I would make the colours a bit darker.
4. I would suggest making a "contact me" page where you could put your store's address, along with the map you created and any other pertinent information regarding your store. This way people don't have to search through your website to find this info.
5. I like the idea of your thank-you page. However, I found it hard to read because it felt a little disorganized. This page may benefit from a comment type of box. Or, maybe use a text box - 1 comment per box, aligning them vertically, and having the comment stretch across the width of the page. Not sure if I make sense here.
6. Your thoughts page - I would suggest aligning your text to the left. There seems to be indentations when there shouldn't be. You can use a text box for this too.
As Ed said above, these are just opinions. Please do what you feel is best for yourself. My only goal is to give you another perspective but it doesn't necessarily mean it's the right one for you. I think you have done a superb job at creating this site. It just needs a little tweaking. =) Best of luck to you. -
hi littleus,
thank you so much for your suggestions. they mean a lot to me. and they are a big help. i don't have a store and my web site is for people to veiw and if they see something they like, i can get it for them from a contact of mine. its a blessing to have this chance to help people get what they need without sticking them with all the profit that retail dealers are doing. of course i make money too,but still my prices even beat what retailers are buying there furniture for. and it comes straight from the company. yes i know wow! ok , to feel you in i have never done anything like this and what i do know i taught myself. i,m learning as i go. so yes thats why your suggestions mean so much to me. as for as some of the things you talked about like the contact and comment box, i dont know how to do this but im going to learn and try it. i would like to set my homepage up so visitors can click on a pick and go to the page with just that kind of furniture on it only. any help you can provide on how to do these things is also very helpful to me and would be greatly appreciated. thanks again and keep me in mind. your awesome! -

Inappropriate? One more thing... how in the world did you make your vertical line???? Would you mind sharing your code with me? I can make it work in FF but not in IE. Yours show up in both!

Hi littelus,
If you are wondering about this site http://furniture101.synthasite.com/ this vertical line is part of the style. I have looked at this style in Firefox and IE and can see the line with both. Are you not able to see the line in your site? -
Hi Emmy
If I'm understanding you correctly Emmy, you're saying that the template itself comes with a vertical line? I can see Donnie's line fine in both FF and IE7. What I've wanted to do in the past was to install a vertical line into my template but have not done so with success for both FF and IE7. In IE7, it appeared as a short line and did not extend all the way down. So, I ended up having to do something entirely different. There was a previous post about this which can be found here:
http://getsatisfaction.com/SynthaSite...
Sorry Donnie about this little side trip here. -
Hello,
Yes, I remember this! I see the the vertical line is still no showing in IE. What style are you using again? We are looking into it right now to see what the problem might be. -
Inappropriate?Hi Emmy
I took out the vertical line code that's why you aren't see it. =P I put it back in to see if it works.. and it still shows up just as a short line. The template I'm using is "Snowcrystals". I'm sure you must have a 1000 &1 more important things to do than this.. so i'm not in any rush. I'll just use borders for now. If you do happen to look into this, I'd love to hear what your thoughts are on this. Thanks again for the wonderful support.

i'm sorry. i wish i knew what you are talking about. i'm new to this and its my first time ever trying this. i'm learning as i go. i wish i could help, but..... what i know i taught myself and i'm thankful to all who teach me as i go.if there is something on my site that you like, just let me know and i'll surprize you with what i can get it for. just for those who teach me as i go. ya'll are important to me and i'll show it too. -
Inappropriate?Hello littelus,
One of our very great engineers has put this code together for you which will create a vertical line. Please give it a try and let us know how it works. Remember to keep out the beginning and end piece which renders the code inactive on the page here.

Another mystery solved. I always wondered why it was done it that way, now I know. -
Inappropriate?Hi Emmy
wow... thanks for that code. Unfortunately, it does not appear to me that it's working on IE7. However, I am beginning to believe that it's MY computer that's the problem. I had another issue elsewhere that appears to be fine in someone else's IE7 but was not fine in mine. So, until I get my new computer or go on someone else's computer.. I think I'm gonna have to have to curtail my website building. So.. this code may in fact be working but I just can't see if it does! Thanks again for all your super support!

Hi Littleus,
I took at look at your site in both IE and Firefox and the line is displaying properly for me. Hopefully some others will take a look to and let us know. Have you been able to look at this on another computer? -
Inappropriate?Thanks Emmy
I am confident that it's my computer that's acting up. I have yet to go on another computer... perhaps this weekend I'll have a chance to. Thanks though for letting me know. It certainly erases the frustration of wondering why the codes don't seem to working for me when in reality they really are! Now... I just need to be patient until tax time when I can use the return to splurge on a new computer! =)

Inappropriate?Hey Donnie
Sorry I haven't responded for awhile. Anyway.. I posted a screen shot of an example of how your Thank you page could look like. I used a few of the comments you listed on your page.
To get this look, you just drag in your text box and type away. To leave space between the comments, just drag another text box in between the comments.
If you want to add an actual comment box where people can leave you messages, there are many ways you can do this. You can use JS-Kit, Disqus or find a comment box through widgets.
As for linking your photos on your homepage - you can definitely do this if you want. Here's a tutorial on how to do this: http://www.synthasite.com/tutorials/c... You can also do a search on this forum to find help as well.
Good luck! -
hi littleus,
i thank you for your help and suggestion. your awesome! i tryed it that way and am debating on doing it that way. the tutorial worked. thank you. i'm learning so much. wow! if i might i would like to ask one other ?. is there a way to add a widget or something that would show how many people have visited my web site. not any thing else about them but just the number of visitors. i think this would not only help me to see the amount of people that visit my site but would let others see how interested other people are in visiting my site. i might be wrong, but ive seen this somewhere before and i was like wow they have had alot of visitors to their site. once again i thank you deeply for your help and suggestions. hope you find my site more appealing every time you visit it untill it is finished completely. have a fun, blessed day. -
Thanks littleus. -
Inappropriate? It's sounds like you're having so much fun constructing your site! That's great!
You can definitely add a counter which keeps track of how many visitors come to visit your site. There are lots of free ones. Some even give you detailed stats on how much your site has been visited.
Here's a few suggestions:
www.amazingcounters.com
www.counting4free.com
www.freestatscounter.com
You can even just google it and a whole bunch of counters will come up!

Oops.. I forgot to add how to add the counter to your site. Once you've selected your counter, copy the html code. Then, on your site, drag the html box onto your page and paste the counter code and voila.. your counter should show up. -
hi littleus,
yea!!!!!!!!!!! that did the trick. your so awesome! oh yes, i have never had so much fun. this is so kool it just blows my mind. whooooopeee! lol! i'm having a ball! ok i got to slow down....... next it that when i do a google search i don't like what comes up. maybe this is my computer or something. it shows to me the get satisfaction site, and myspace. can this be removed. it looks like if others can see this then they might get my info which wouldn't be good. i hope you can understand what i'm talking about. maybe you can google my site and see what happens?. thanks again and keep smiling it makes others smile too. -
Does Peter's reply answer your question about this, donnie? -
Inappropriate?Hi Donnie,
This happens because you have your web address on your Get Satisfaction profile and because GS is indexed by Google.
It's may be quite a good thing overall as it will get your pages into the rankings more quickly. Publicity is always a two edged sword I guess. I don't know how to remove the GS aspect from the search other than to remove your web site from your profile. That will still take a bit of time though to drop off the searches

well hello peter,
i see. thats the way it goes sometimes. and i need the publicity. awesome! thank you peter. as long as people can't enter in theses sites as me i should be ok? right? this is so kool! so many people helping me out. all of you are just so awesome. i wish there was something that i could do to thank you guys, or help you guys. i love helping people and you guys helping me means the world to me. A BIG THANK YOU GOES OUT TO YOU GUYS! have a fun and blessed day. smile it makes others smile too. -
Inappropriate? Thanks for the warm acknowledgement Donnie,
I guess the thing to understand is this is a community. Pretty special I know. Once you're at a level of confidence the machine in your brain takes over and you start offering responses based on your own experience.
Always amazes me the wealth of knowledge in groups like this. Here is a place that I've never seen or experienced the dismissive "Google it!" There's always someone with a suggestion, a lateral thought or bitter experience to get you up and running and always with a "chai di"(good heart) or "nam chai" (flowing heart).
Synthasite really picked a winner with Get Satisfaction as their Community Support facility.

HI PETER,
yes thats true. but i lie this group of people. you guys are a blessing to me. for i have never taken any schooling on computers and what i have learned i taught myself by just getting on the computer and being determined to learn it. so to find a group of people like you guys is just totally awesome. by the way if you happen to visit my site... i added a thank you to all of you guys.. its my way of showing how much you guys mean to me for all you help and support. buy the way littleus had suggested a comment box for my thank you page, but for me this is just a way for me to let people know how thankful i am of them. the comment box i think will go on another page. i liked her suggestion and im going to use it for this other page. i'm glad she made that suggestion i wasn't even thinking of a comment page. wow! smile and make someones day. -
Inappropriate?I'm glad that it's working out for you Donnie. This is definitely a great support community we have here. Far excels any other sites I've been on.
-
hi littleus,
this is very true to me. i sent a reply from my gmail to ruth but im not sure she got it. so i'll ask you if you don't mind?. i was talking to peter about when i do a google search why the search results are what they are. and the reply he gave me got ne to wondering if....... i put my url on a page of my site would that cause ny site to be in the search like the others that are there. just a thought. thanks for replying and as i told peter there is a little thank you to you guys on my thanks page. you guys are the best. keep up the awesome work that you do. i cant thank you enough. smile for me. -
Hi Donnie,
I don't seem to have received your email I'm sorry.
I'm not sure what you mean by putting your URL on a page of your site, do you mean linking to yourself? -
Inappropriate?I wish I could help you with this one. This is out of my realm. I hope that Ruth is able to give you the answer needed.
-
hi littleus and ruth,
it was a stupid thought now looking back.lol! sorry about that. just got caught up in the excitement i guess.i'm having to much fun with this! lol! wow! well here is another ?. my friends seem to be having a problem with getting to my web site from myspace. it says that it is considered a third party and has been disabled and has cause a virus on their computer. i know this isn't true. is there a way to resolve this? or is this just the way it is with myspace.com. and one more thing littleus, i tried to put a place on my index or home page to where you can leave a comment and it is in text but when i go to properties it only gives me the margin alignment. i know you told me before i think on how to do this but i seem to have forgot. can you help me with this? take another look at my site and see if it is getting more to your liken and if you have more suggestion i'd love to hear them.they mean alot to me as you should be able to tell from your visit. ok i'll let you guys alone for now to help others and try to add more to my site. have a fun, blessed day. -
to add html either drag in a html box or press the little html button on the top menu bar what comes up when you click inside the text box.
I think the myspace thing is a known issue that synthasite are working on. it may be resolved a member of stafff may jump in and correct me . -
Inappropriate?I'd like to help you with some of the design elements of your site. That's what I love to do!
I think just by glancing at the site, the red text with the brown background doesn't really work. Anyway Keep at it. Let me know if I can help you out. -
thanks tiggs, but the reason i did that was so it would stand out. as long as people can read it i want to leave it. i thank you though. and yes i would love for you to help me. thats great. what else might i do? -
Inappropriate?Hey Donnie
To install a comment box, you have to use the HTML box or grab one through Widgets (located in the right-hand column). You can also use forms if you wish as an option. These are also located in the right-hand column of your site editor.
Here's a couple of external ones for comment boxes:
http://js-kit.com/
http://disqus.com/ - this is integrated with Synthasite
Here's a couple of threads on Synthasite that deal with this:

ok i got it now. now if you look at my home page you'll see that at the bottom there i have a place to where you should be able to CLICK HERE and go to my comments page, but when i go to properties it shows me only the margin stuff. i think you sent me something about the html, but when i do that it takes me to the pop up of search or browse. i'm lost on it. if there is a way i can do this let me know. thank you so much my friend. -
Inappropriate?I went to your site to check out the comment section. The "click here" link did not work. Can you post your code here so that we can see how to help you? I am not that well versed in coding but I'll try my best. If I can't do it, I know is a wealth of knowledgeable people who you can tap into on here.
-
hi littleus,
you want believe what happened. lol. i was trying to get a blues misic widget to put on my home page next to the text you saw and the widget didn't work for some reason so i deleted it without thinking first, i deleted both spots and now its gone. dang it. lol. oh well i liked it but i guess i'll have to try something else now this might be another dumb ? but can you send me a code or something to my email that i can copy and paste in the widget box or html? if you can creat something and sed it i would gladly past it. maybe that might be to much to ask. or if you could just direct me in the right direction, i would greatly appreciate it. -
Inappropriate?Hi Donnie,
I had a look at your "click here" link. You still need to create the link to your comment page. Here's how to:
1. Drag and drop a text widget onto your page.
2. In the text widget type the words that you want people to click on (Click Here).
3. Highlight the link text and then click on the link button (it's the 10th button from the left in the text editing tool bar, and looks like the link in a chain).
4. A link editor dialogue box will open up and you will be given 4 options. You can link to an email address, an external URL, a page on your own site or a file in your file manager. You will chose a page on your site and the comment page.
You will then have a link on your page. To check that your link is working preview your page and then click on the link.
Let me know if you have any problems with this.
