How can I ACCURATELY track clicks to specific links (ads, etc.).
Analytics (Google and getclicky) generally just tell you if a page had action and what pages were visited. They DO NOT tell you what ads or links specifically were clicked. So I'd really like an answer that doesn't include google or getclicky.
This is really important in selling adspace.

Google analytics is pretty much an industry standard and is a very powerful statistics tool. To really squeeze the most out of it, there is quite a high learning curve, but if you are really interested in gathering this information, it might be worth your while. I personally have only scratched the surface of what is possible.
In particular, with regards to seeing what users are clicking on, you might be interested in the site overlay view (see image attached). This will tell you what links users have clicked on on a page.
To view the site overlay, in google analytics, go:
content -> site overlay
What method are you using to show your adverts? You should not need to rely on a 3rd party statistics tool to track clicks on your ads. Most ad servers will track that for you. Furthermore, if you use something like google adsense, they have quite nice integration with google analytics - providing optimization tools to help improve your ad-click conversions.

Inappropriate?I'm using a banner then inserting a link. I am NOT using a advertising program (well... I am) but I am referring to selling my OWN advertising space. If I sell adspace for $0.15 per click for example, I need to know when to take down that advertising after the budget has been reached. I especially want to sell corner page peel advertising (without affiliate marketing) but I still can't figure it out. It appears you need to upload a javascript file which yola doesn't allow unless you pay for pro. But what my question was is how to ACCURATELY track clicks.
I no longer use google analytics but can start back up again if the site overlay does accurately track clicks. I stopped using google analytics because they kept claiming I got 100 to 400 visitors per day when I know that was BS. Also, they aren't real time like getclicky. I know when and where someone is on my site at all times using get clicky, they are more accurate, and more user-friendly.
So... if I typed in http://google.com on one of my pages with a google analytics code and someone clicks on it, it'll say "CLICKS - GOOGLE.com" from page http://mysite.com/mypage - I should explore getclicky, the analytics I currently use and see if this option is available in there.

I gave a possible advertiser a free trial period advertising on my site. So I put it up and they put a custom google analytics filter on the links in the ad, tracking how many people clicked on that link and how long the stayed on that page.
Therefore when his trial period was up, I emailed him and told him that the trial period was over and was also able to tell him how many people I sent his way and how long the people that came from my site stayed on his.
I did this by making a custom filter on google analytics. Is this what you are looking for?

Let's just use as an example.
Google AdSense... they track clicks, it says, 1 click, 10 clicks, etc.... when an advertiser reaches their budget using AdWords, google then takes their ad down.
How does Google AdSense do it? -
Inappropriate?I'm not looking for automatic responses like google will take an ad down automatically, I know that's probably not available with the language yola uses. I don't mind taking them down manually, but I'd like to be able to track them the same way AdSense and AdWords does.

It sounds like you might be looking for something like OpenX.

OpenX is an adserver. Basically it lets you run (track and administer) ads. I see on their products page (above), they have a hosted solution. This would be suitable for your needs.
What you do is:
1.) Set up an ad campaign on openX.
2.) Grab the code provided by openX (similar to what you paste in your site with google adsense)
3.) Paste the code in your YolaSite.
You ad will then show on your site, and it will be tracked/managed from your openX account (views, clicks .. etc)
OpenX can be a little difficult to wrap your head around (it was when i tried it, but that was quite a while back), but it does sound a lot like the solution you are looking for -

Here... take a look at my homepage... there is an ad on the homepage advertising adspace, click on it. Maybe you'll get a better idea of what I want. - Basically (I WANT TO RUN THE SHOW) - I'll place google adsense whereever my visitors ads aren't running, and then when a visitor purchases adspace, I'll place there ad up the page and move AdSense down the page. They will pay me directly (or if I use another host) hopefully I will get 100% of the money - that is the purpose. -

I have a question about adsense and affiliate advertising though...
I have 10,261 ad impressions with adsense and only $25.85 earned.which is not a lot.
I heard that there are affiliate marketing that pays per thousand impressions (around $5.00 to $7.00) and usually per click as well which is worth my time more than adsense. The only one I found denied me (I think because I don't get enough traffic but not sure why). Do you know of any advertising companies similar to AdSense that pays for CPM (cost per thousand impressions)? I could of had $50 or more by now.... after 7 months of hard work!1 Comment

Inappropriate?I have adbrite. All my codes are messed up because of them. My AdBrite ads don't show - at least not on my computer. I use them on long articles after I put in the adsense ads. But I've earned $1.14 in about 4 to 6 months lol.
I'm hoping to find something that pays per thousand impressions. I found one that pays $7 per thousand impressions plus clicks but didn't get approved for some reason. If I get one of these, then I don't have to get clicks to get paid. Clicks are hard to obtain. I only have 1.59% clicks with AdSense and out of those 163 clicks out of 10,261 impressions, I've only gotten paid $25.85 and we both know you must get to $100 then wait another month to receive a check. It'll be 2 to 3 years to earn $100 with Adsense. I'm looking for something that pays more or pays per thousand impressions.
I can generally get 5 to 100 visitors a day (100 is rare, 80 happens about once every 2 weeks, 60 happens about once every week, and 5 to 40 is average). How many visitors must I get to get a lot with AdSense? 10,000 a day?6 Comments Add a comment

Hard for me to compare because I have products on my site.Most of the time I don't place Ads in prime spots....I try to place them as an after thought to not take away from my products...Like at the very bottom of a page...I have 52,416 page impressions and $40.52 in earnings... I am sure I could do better with better Ad placement but it still shows you need a ton of visits to make much money....I do think in the long run for you though because of the type of site you have you will show up in a larger variety of searches.

yea, I definately have the LARGEST visitor potential along side with wikipedia and other encyclopedias because ANYTHING can go into my site. If I had $52,416 impressions, I would probably have my $100. Yours is probably low, because like you said, you place them below everything (so although it's an impression, your users probably don't see them too much) But I'm guessing you probably make more money with your products than advertising. I'm trying to figure out a big seller product I can sell on my homepage and get a commission. Like contacting the author, creator, seller directly and saying, "Hey, I have this site, would like to sell your product on it and get paid!" - although more professional... any ideas?
I'm a book publisher with only one book (kids book teaching ABC's 123s and how to read) and another in progress (372 pages so far) teaching Tae Kwon Do and would like to sell that when it's done. But that won't be for at least another two to three months.

Yes I make a lot more on products but it does make me a niche site and that will be fine if real estate ever really gets going again.
Have you looked into Amazon's programs? I know they have a self publishing deal but I don't know anyone personally that has used it to rate it....I do have a few friends that sell products on Amazon and they have been happy with Amazon. -
can you sell for OTHER people using amazon and get a commission? I think I seen something like this on someone's site. They were selling products that was not their products and I believe they get a commission.

Yes you can add their items and I plan on checking that out myself for my coffee site....I want to list coffee machines and supplies also....Even if the commissions are small it lets me do more SEO for my site and get people to visit.

Inappropriate?I've averaged it out that about 25 to 60% of visitors are from yola (getsatisfaction). The other 40 to 75% is real visitors actually there because they want to use the site.

I'm reading an article that basically says if you have 2000 page views PER DAY you can generally count on $50 to $150 PER MONTH from AdSense... that's 60,000 page views will get you about $50 to $150? That means... to make a regular paycheck $250 to $400 a week - I'd have to have probably no less than 21,333 page views PER DAY for a $400 a week google check? That sucks. I have to mass produce advertising (MySpace, AdWords, Adbrite advertiser, Kontera Advertiser, private websites, WPromote, Optimize for search engines, fellow yola users, link exchanging) - a lot of work, better get started! LOL

Inappropriate?An honest opinion though, if I invest money (advertising, yola's pro package, w promote, etc., etc.) do you think in the long run that money will come back to me with the extra traffic? Although, I intend not investing anything that I don't make in the first place because I have children with needs... So I actually won't be able to get started until my google account actually reaches that $100 mark. The investments already made (dot info and dot com I own plus certified through my domain) was made by someone else.
