Here are some tips from our graphics designer (Tracy) on how to start creating a homepage for a small business website:
Your Homepage should include elements like your company logo and a brief introduction to your business with accompanying images that may illustrate what you do more succinctly than words.
A good starting point may be to use the Red Planet style that allows you to replace the top masthead graphic with your own. Here you can insert your company logo and/or an image that relates to your business - as a guide, make your image 900 x 150 pixels in dimensions to suit the horizontal format.
It may be helpful to think about your page in terms of horizontal blocks of information which will be visible as the reader scrolls down the page - the title and masthead logo/image are 'block 1' and the introductory text is 'block 2', additional text below that is 'block 3', etc.
Something to keep in mind with large amounts of text is the line length. Our sites are made for optimum viewing at a screen resolution of 1024 x 768 so a single column of text usually runs too long for comfortable reading. Try using the 'Two Column Layout' widget and resize the left column to be wider than the right (by default they're of equal width). Drag the Text widget into the left column and type a heading (use 'Heading style 2' in the Text Editor) and your introductory copy below (use 'Paragraph' style). You can use the right column to insert an Image, additional Text (eg. Contact information, or a text quote), or even some Advertising (Google AdSense) to help your site earn its keep.

Creating a website with SynthaSite is really easy. Just give your site a title and start editing. Click on "styles" to select a template and then start dragging and dropping widgets to add content.
I’m excited

Hi bard,
Are you referring to the two column widget? Once you have added the two column widget to your page you will need to add a text or image widget to each column, so that you can add content.
Please let me know if I have misunderstood your question. -
