How to change the domain name of a published site?
Can I change the Domain Name of an already published site? I purchased a new domain name and want to use that for my published site.
OK, after some more looking I found out how to change the Domain Name for a published site. Now my problem is when I put in my new Domain Name it is coming back from the check as invalid. This is probably because I registered the name at Network Solutions. Anyone have a workaround for this?

Inappropriate?Hi Eric,
My suggestion would be to check to make sure that you have properly set your "A records" to the correct ip address. You can learn more about how to set up your dns settings here: http://www.synthasite.com/tutorials/p...
If / when all your dns settings are set properly, It usually takes about 48 hours (although usually not that long) before any changes can be seen, so it is perfectly normal to wait a day or two before your domain pointing is validated.
I hope that helps. -
Thanks gamedemon but all that is OK. My problem now is the Domain Checker is sayong my Domain Name is taken or invalid. The only way around this that I can see is to recreate the site from scratch and point it to my new Domain Name. Anyone have any other ideas? -
Inappropriate?Hi Eric,
That is not true, you can point any domain name to your site at any time. And it makes no difference where you register your domain name. Any domain name can be pointed to your site as long as the dns settings are correct.
I have done this many times while switching back and forth with two of the domain names I own.
As I said before, it takes ~48 hours for changes to take affect and for your domain name to show up as valid, so it is perfectly normal for it to show up as invalid at this time. Check frequently, and if it still shows up invalid, than it has to be a problem with the dns settings.
Also, when you do the domain check, try it with and without the "www.", this has worked for me in the past.
Also, if you haven't already, make sure you read that tutorial I linked to in the last reply.

gamedemon, I figured it out! I had created a dummy site to point my Domain Name from Network Solutions. I deleted that site and changed my real site via the properties on the upload button and all is fine. Thank you so much for the answers! -
Inappropriate?Eric: I am glad you worked it out!
Gamedemon: thanks for helping!
