How To Help Your Site Up The Search Engines Plus Free Link Submission
I have a website (www.itcourses.org) which I started building with the old synthasite and now it has a page rank 2 and number 4 in google search, number 1 in yahoo and bing search. I have come to notice that sometimes having a subdomain of your main domain helps to an extent as it helps to promote the main domain while itself is promoted making it almost reciprocal.
Another way of improving your site is by link building. Although without a good page structure and content, inbound links would not help a great deal, If you have a good content and crawlable friendly pages, inbound links help your site great deal and helps getting your site up the search rankings.
As something of good will, I'm offering to everyone on synthasite/yola a free link submittion to www.itcourses.org.

Inappropriate? Thanks for your post info! Always useful to hear how people have had success with their sites!

Inappropriate? It is very important that link exchanges are between sites related in some way or it will harm your rank.

This still confuses me. What if you link on a certain page to THAT page's information/topic? When it comes to an online encyclopedia there is an endless number of possibilities and I'm not going to link only to other encyclopedia's rather than that, for example, on my Aerobiology page I link to The Pan American Aerobiology Board Certification (1 of 10 links on that page). -
Donald I would think your site has to be considered a little differently than say my site that is a certain product...You can make links relate by page subject as it looks like you are doing....I am not an expert but to me what you are doing looks related. -
Inappropriate? One of the most important measures for a website is how many other sites link to it. The more links the better. Having links to your website from authoritative resources on the Internet helps you rank higher in search engines since these links are an indication that your website is trustworthy and contains good content.
Google PageRank relies on the uniquely democratic nature of the web by using its vast link structure as an indicator of an individual page's value. In essence, Google interprets a link from page A to page B as a vote, by page A, for page B. But, Google looks at more than the sheer volume of votes, or links a page receives; it also analyzes the page that casts the vote. Votes cast by pages that are themselves important weigh more heavily and help to make other pages important.

Inappropriate?I have about 352 other inbound links (according to websitegrader.com)... is this not enough or something? As far as I can tell... none of my 158 pages are within the first 100 results on google for any of the keywords. What's my problem?

Inappropriate?the only keyword I can occasionally find my site within the first 100 results is if I type in the name of my site directly "you can never be too smart" but I'm not about to use that as a keyword because the likelihood of someone searching that is slim to none. According to google that's only been searched 12 times per month average (that's 12 more than 2 months ago) and all of those have probably been myself.
