I have deleted a page from my site pages and I can still visit it if I type it's url in... Why is this?
I didn't know it was like this, until I clicked an old link on one of my pages and it carried me to this page. I guess if I didn't do this I wouldn't know it was still there, but it's still weird... It really sucks because if I have old links on pages that I do not catch that consist of old urls and people click them, they will be seeing stuff I do not want them to see, stuff that I thought I deleted...

Inappropriate?I have to ask if you published the site after you deleted the page. Changes don't take effect on the live site until it's been published to the internet. I would republish your site if you haven't already. After you do, the deleted page should not show up.
-
Inappropriate?Donald is correct. Can you please try republishing your site and then let us know if you're still being taken to your deleted pages?
-
Inappropriate?I had this same thing last week.
I had deleted a test page called 'a' but it got listed by google - the page could still be reached live but it had been offically deleted and was no where to be found in my site account.
Weird.
Maybe its a bug.
Lee.
-
Inappropriate?Hmm.. very interesting! I assume Lee that you too have updated your site since you deleted your test page?
It may also be dependent on when Google spiders crawl your site again and update it's information. I also wonder if you cleared your cache after deleting your page and updating the site, if you are able to access the link in Google?
Perhaps someone could try these suggestions and get back to us? This will help us to compile the information needed to address this issue. -
yeah i had republished loads (it must have been a 2 week period before i realised it still exsisted after deleting it) - i was shocked to see it still exsisted - i should have proved it there and then with screen shots but i stupidly try to fix it myself by making a new page called 'a' and then deleted that... after a republish that page was gone forever.
You know me - i know about browser cache and re publishing.
All i can presume is that some content on the page caused it not to actually fully delete... just a guess.
Its like a ghost page :) -
Inappropriate?Yeah I republish it almost daily...
I've even published it since I asked this question. -
Inappropriate? If content on the page caused it not to delete, then that means I have some content like that on at least 2 pages... I can currently see 2 pages, I've deleted, and if I can remember some more of my old urls, I bet I'll find those too.
-
if you could take a screen shot of tyour page list and then link a page that was not in that list but still live that would be complete proof and they could investigate it as a bug. -

Inappropriate?I just checked one of them on a browser I do not normally use, and that browser brought the page up too...
-
Inappropriate?Well you might want to e-mail Yola about that. You can email them at support@yola.com Hope this helps!
I’m happy
-
Inappropriate? Also, I had that happen and eventually (couple weeks-month) It could not be found :) may just take some patience :)
-
Thank you, I was thinking that also > that maybe it takes a while... I thought however if that was the case, someone from Yola would have already said that, because that would surely be the answer to this question. : )
So Yola, is the answer that it takes a month or so to disappear? -
Inappropriate?Hello everyone
I really appreciate everyone jumping in and providing us with more details and sharing their experiences with this. I will try to find out more information about this and get back to you. -
Inappropriate?are you sure you're viewing your live site and not a cache? When google indexes pages, they also create a cache of the page so that as long as it's still indexed in google, the user can generally view how that page looked a week ago even if it's been deleted.
-
If I clicked a link from my own site and ended up on a deleted page, isn't that live, or do I not understand what you are saying? -
yea, it's live. I do have a question though... why do you have links to deleted pages? -

Inappropriate?He's right.
http://rtb2walks.co.uk/test2.php
Is a page I deleted days ago, and yes I have republished (several times). Also I know it's not a cashe thing as I can access it from my wife's laptop which would never have accessed this page.
Rob.
I’m conserned
-
How did you discover that the page could still be seen? Am I the only one, who hasn't discovered all of their old links??? -
Inappropriate?maybe yola sites aren't publishing to the internet world properly and should be looked into. Since it does seem more than one person is having this issue.
-
Inappropriate?Yola_User_A
I read this issue and knew I had deleted a test page, since http://www.rtb2walks.co.uk/test.php still exists, and given the way that I name my test pages it didn't take much to give it a go.
Perhaps the deletd page functionality is a logical delete rather than a physical one.
Rob.b -
Oh ok, I see... Thanks for checking yours. -
Inappropriate?I've been thinking about this.
If the live sites are hosted on a different server to the dev (editor) and test (preview) environments. (As seems to be indicated by the fact that the live environment is case sensitive, and the other two are not.) Then it comes down to what is delivered into live.
This suggests the following:
1. Pages that exist in test (preview) but not in live.
2. Pages that exist in both test and live but are not the same (i.e.changes).
This is easily implemented if the delivery is controlled from the dev/test server (fair enough that's where the make live buttton is) by delivering everything from test into live every time. If it is a simple deliver everything every time it also means that once delivered it's in the live environment for good.
Some kind of scheduled job (perhaps daily) on the live server to check what is on the dev/test server should be able to sort this out. I have several korn shell scripts on my production servers that maintain local files based on the contents of other Unix and Wintel servers (via ftp and sftp as required). So it is possible.

Inappropriate?Hi,
I've logged this as a bug for our engineers to look at. We will get back to you when we have more information on this issue.
I apologize for the inconvenience. -
Inappropriate?Sorry can't let this fade into obscurity, it's too imprtant (in my view).
I’m dismayed
-
LOL, I almost left a comment earlier today also... -
I'm new here, but I can assure you we are looking into what's causing this problem and we will report back here as soon as we have a solution. We appreciate your patience and all the information you've provided to help us figure it out. -
Inappropriate?Hi any news, this is rally quite a serious issue, can you provide a work around until such time as your developers/engineers get around to loking at this issue.
Thanks in advance.
-
They are looking into it right now but have no idea what is causing it yet. As such I can't offer you an ETA on a fix but a couple of weeks would be reasonable for a bug of this nature, unless they suddenly have a break through on the cause. I found that logging out and in again and republishing two or three times seemed to resolve it for me, but I am not sure if this is a reliable workaround. You could try it and let me know. -
Inappropriate?Tried that does not fix it, nearly a month now since I deleted test2.php and i can still acc on a HP-UX system from work, it's stil there.ess it;
Clear cache and log off won't fix everything unfortunately.
Tried it on a HP-UX system from work, it's stil there. -
We are getting closer to a permanent fix on this. The engineer found the bug and fixed it. The fix now has to be rigorously tested in our staging environment and then it will be released to live. We will let you know as soon as this happens. -
Inappropriate?OK new issue if I try and edit my reply, I do not have permission! Any ideas why?
Sorry but of late nearly everything I try on Yola either packs up or does not work consistantly.this is geting silly!!!!
-
First of all, I should point out that Get Satisfaction is a third party service that we use to host our forum. Secondly, you have up to 15 minutes to edit a reply and then when you will be told that you do not have permission to edit it. This is the way their system works, but I believe this is quite a common limitation for editing content posted to forums, wikis etc. -
Inappropriate?I have just found out that this > "bug" < also affects my search engine, even though many of my pages were deleted my search engine is still able to find the old supposedly deleted pages and therefore posts them as current search results in my search engine.
I’m sad, anxious, hoping this gets resolved soon...
-
Hi there,
We understand that bugs can be frustrating, but rest assured a fix for this should be going out soon. We will post back here as soon as the fix is live, thanks so much for your patience, we do appreciate it.
Kind Regards,

Inappropriate? This bug has now been fixed. If you update your site, deleted pages should no longer be accessible via their old URLs.
Sorry for the inconvenience, and thank you for reporting it. -

Inappropriate?Monique.
I think some one is misleading you. I have just republished, and the page I used to test this 8 days ago (it had been deleted a couple of days before that) is still available if I type in the correct URL!
See for your self:

Hi Rob,
Go ahead and create a new page called test2 -- then delete that page.
That should end it once and for all :)

Hi Rob - can you try clicking on "Update my Site" again to see whether the deleted page is no longer available - please post back here if you are still experiencing the problem. -
Inappropriate?*Waives* Hey guys, does anyone see me, I feel like I'm being overlooked, ignored... IDK...
But anyway, can I just ask 3 more questions, I do see my site now in IE so disregard that, but I do still see my old pages, am I doing something wrong? Or do I just stop updating and go ahead and totally unpublish my whole site, clear some kind of cache, and then republish it again to get rid of the pages, and if I do unpublish and republish, will this affect anything else? -
I'm sorry! Can you post a few of the links so that we can take a look? -
I sure can, otherwise, you're welcome to send an email to us (mark it for my attention). support@yola.com -

Got it and I need to ask an engineer for some advice - will come back to you as soon as I can. -
Inappropriate?Great! Thanks : )
-
Inappropriate?Ok, I know you guys are still working on this, but I just want to say that I probably will be creating new pages with my old links, so that I can at least control the way they look, instead of having the old deleted ones still on my site... If the old urls have to be there, I at least need to them to look like I choose for them to look, and not how they looked upon deletion... I will wait a little while before I do this so that I can see if yola has fixed the old url problem, but I will not be able to wait too long... Thanks!
-
We should have it fixed for you in the next few hours - I am on it! -
We've fixed your site - if the pages are still visible, can you try updating your site before trying again? -
Inappropriate?YAYYY!!! Woohooo!!!!!! Those two are gone, hope I don't have anymore I can't remember! Will you have to do this each time???
Thanks Yola : ) -
Nope, the problem is fixed and you won't have to do it each time. If you see different, please let us know. -
oK Thanks!!!! : ) -
Inappropriate?Hey you guys... : (
I just got finished reimplementing an old html script I made for my website a little while back... I decided to use it again, so I changed the old link names to the new ones I've renamed them as, but one got pass me I didn't catch it at first, so when I went to check my link flow... Guess what, I clicked a link and it was old and I could still see one of my old deleted pages... Despite the two you've deleted for me, our old urls are still out there in internet land. What's with this?
Am I the only one who cares?
-
Inappropriate?Ok, I just checked the search engines and i'm seeing most of my old links, I've got like 4 different site designs going around. OH MY GOODNESS!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is so incredibly bad! -
Hello Yola_User_A
Can you please give us a list of the old links that you have deleted from your site that you're still seeing on Google?
We will have to look into why this is happening. Be be assured that this is something that we are not taking lightly. We will address this as soon as we can. -
Inappropriate?I will compile a list and send them to you... May take a while.
Thanks -
Inappropriate?And... I don't think that will be all even of them when I do send it, but I will try.
-
Try to think of many as you can. That would be very helpful. You can send your list to support@yola.com. We really appreciate your patience with this. I'm sure that it's quite frustrating to see this again and again. We do apologize for this. -
Inappropriate?Ok, I changed my mind, I will send you 13 links, but I can't sit here and compile all my old links, it's not going to be to good if I'm asked to do that right now. I'm seeing all my old links as I sit here and think about what they were and type them in, and it's soooooooooo frustrating.
Yola please fix this on your end by getting rid of pages we delete, am I crazy or when I delete a page, shouldn't it no longer exist, shouldn't if you type it in the browser should not be able to find it? Is it crazy to think that, or even just tell me what I am doing that makes this happen or can do to end it if it is somehow my fault! PLEASE
Should I unpublish my site and republish it, will that help me? I need this to end. -
I just wanted to let you know that we have received your email. While I know that you're wanting a solution quickly, unfortunately, this may not happen. I will need to get our engineers to investigate this and get back to you.
In the meantime, these links that you're seeing.. have they been ones that you have recently deleted? Have you cleared your cache since they've been deleted?
I know that this has been very very frustrating. I really thank you for taking the time to work with us as we try to figure out what's going on. -
Inappropriate? No, I deleted them a long time ago 3-4 weeks probably... I never use IE so I looked at them in that browser to see if they are still there and they are. Would doing that be something that would let you know they are still there? Because they would have never been pulled up in IE, therefore they wouldn't be in any "cache" correct?...
... I found a couple of the links through a search engine and it was not google and the others I just typed in to see if they were there.
I understand but If I keep seeing them I will be back...
Yola can't just delete mine as I remember them and send them the links and leave everyone else's out there and even mine that I do not remember. -
Inappropriate?I was just wondering if any of the people that had this problem made links to these pages on other non-deleted pages of their website. If so maybe the link still exists if it wasn't deleted properly. I noticed that when you delete the picture or text that you made into a link, it doesn't always delete the link.
-
Hi Stephanie - if you have a link to a page/picture on another page of your site, and you delete the first page/picture - then yes, you would need to go and edit the link. Is that the information you were looking for? -
No, I don't think that's the problem here, once you press delete and then you confirm it, the pages you've deleted should be gone. We're talking about complete webpages, not links, they only want me to send them my "links" to the pages so they can take a look at the pages and delete them.
