tina a background would be nice on your page but i will say this don't be ashamed to use a template to get started. but if you want to continue from what you have try to look up frames and frame sets html code. this is a good example of frames

you can make it so the frame on the left has your home tab and other links and when you click that will open each fram in the middle of the page so if you have a link Item for sale and click it it would open the html page item for sale in the middle of the page without reloading the whole page
