pdf downloads slow or stall altogether.
Hi.
I have uploaded a bunch of club newsletters on our site (pdf's) but I find that when trying to download them, they will either stall after a few minutes or timeout completely. This is from various networks (ISP's) and using either FireFox 303 or IE.
Either trying to open them directly or downloading by "save as". 'Sometimes' they download fine, but mostly the download will just stall altogether..
As I am busy transitioning our current site over to here I need to know if this is a known issue/bug and whether I should look for an alternative site rather as we host quite a few monthly newsletters and bulletins for downloading. All are under 5MB in size.
Just wondering if there is server maintenance or something happening maybe? It only seems to be over the last day or two...
Thanks - Mark

Inappropriate?Hi Mark,
I downloaded a selection of the Torque and AVANZ News pdfs. They downloaded in less than a minute for me and opened fine.
I'm wondering if this issue has to do with the speed of the network you are on?
There is no server maintenance going on our side.
Perhaps some of our other SynthaSite users can try and let you know what they find.
I used Firefox three and an ADSL line to view the pdfs.

Inappropriate?Hi Ruth, Hey many thanks for the tests. I have just tried again and also had confirmation from one of our dial up members that it is all working fine.
I downloaded three pdfs & refreshed all my pages in less than three minutes total. wow!
I guess maybe there was some network (maybe the international link?) problem this morning but it seems to be going good again so I will continue with working on it and slowly transferring from our current site.
Thanks again - you guys do a great job :-)
Mark

Glad to hear it's now working for you! -
Inappropriate?I have had this happen to me as well. Just now. I have had my users send emails complaining about this problem. I deleted the file and posted it again. that helped for a little while but nothing is working right now.
Could you please help.

Hi Casey,
Are the visitors to your site using IE? There is a known problem with clicking-on and downloading some PDFs in IE that is beyond our control. The alternative is to add some text next to the file saying something like "If you are unable to open this PDF, right-click on the link and choose Save to download and open this file from your computer".
If that doesn't help, can you post a link to the page where this is happening. Could you also confirm which browsers it affects (IE7, FF3 etc). -
Inappropriate?i am facing the same issue could u plz. look at it.....

Hello,
I was able to very quickly open that pdf, are you linking to that from your site because it exists on another site? Have you uploaded that pdf to your site and are wanting your visitors to download it?

Inappropriate?I have had trouble with this in Safari 4.0 and it was a plug-in that was causing the problem. I deleted the plug-in and it worked.
