Purchase your own custom domain - either the first time you publish or any time you update
When you publish or update your site now, you'll see an option to purchase your own custom domain. Publishing a website to a subdomain of SynthaSite (http://example.synthasite.com) will still be free, but many of our users have asked for an easy way to use a custom domain (in the form of www.example.com.)
Having your own domain can help your site stand out and help establish your online identity. Having a memorable site address will help repeat visitors remember your site and new users find it in search engines.
A custom domain is only $14.95/year - you'll own the domain, and we'll automatically configure it to work.
When you publish or update your site, you'll now see the following option:
If the domain you want isn't available, keep trying out variations! For instance, I tried to get my first name.com and it was taken, but my full name was available. Simply enter a new domain in the box, and we'll check to see if it's available for you.
As always, please don't hesitate to let us know if you have any questions.

Inappropriate?i would like to know, where can i find a full spec of your services as a hosting provider? please refer me to the relevant page.

Inappropriate? You have a good question and we should add such a page but I can happily tell you here what our hosting offer is:
1) We offer free hosting for all sites built with SynthaSite, whether you use a subdomain, a domain purchased through us or a domain bought elsewhere.
2) There is no limit to the amount of bandwidth allowed for your site or the amount of traffic you can receive.
3) We do all we can to ensure as close to 100% uptime of published sites as possible. Even when we do maintenance on SynthaSite, published sites remain up.
If you have any other questions that I have not answered, please let me know. -
Inappropriate?Hi guys,
Ik love working with synthasite. The service is great and even computer rookies like me can easily build great websites! Many thanks for that! Unfortunately Synthasite started offering domainnames 2 weeks after I had purchased mine elsewhere. I would like to know if there is any way to use my own name (meaning that will be the domain name people see in the browser's adress bar) besides leading my name to my Synthasite-built site? For example by paying you the $15 and move my name ownership to Synthasite?
Thanks in advance for your answer and thanks for the great service.

Hi Peter. You can transfer your domain to us or you can simply point your domain to your site and let your domain name registrar provide you with domain name management. If you want to do the former, please email support@synthasite.com. If you choose the latter, check out this tutorial or email us if you need further assistance: http://www.synthasite.com/tutorials/p...
Thank you for the great feedback! We really appreciate your support! -

Inappropriate? If we sign on for the custom domain name, is there a redirection screen that comes up if a visitor to our site types in the old site address?
-
Hi Jeremy - the system is not currently set up to redirect from your old subdomain to the new domain, but we're working on implementing this as we speak.
As it stands now, your site will be published (and updated) to both locations.
Soon, your subdomain will automatically redirect (without showing a screen) to the new location. I'll be sure to announce this when we have it out! -
Inappropriate? Thanks, for the new service for newbies, Domains can be bought for a cheaper price at many other domain companies. But, if newbies don't understand how to do that or how to transfer a domain to Synthasite then the few extra bucks for the domain would be worth it for them.
I'm checking out different online site builders and am going to start to build sites with Synthasite as I think "Synth" is the best of the free online sitebuilders. Right now a few others get more publicity but I think Synthasite offers higher quality. -
I am working on building my own web site, since it will be more intricate than I could possibly explain, but simply it is for my art business, my friends language business and my upcoming medical services. Would it be easy for me to load my own web pages creation? Presently I am using freewebs.com -
For a website to work with SynthaSite it needs to be built with our software. It is no possible to load pages built with freewebs.com to our servers. I am sorry I can't be of more help with this request. -
Inappropriate?Hi Chris,
If I apply for a domain name will it go on all the sites I have with synthasite? Also, will the old synthasite.com address still work or will I need to change the URL on the websites that have links to the new domain URL?
Thanks,
Mark -
@EducationDurham - You can choose where to publish each website, so the name you choose for one won't affect the others. You can have multiple sites, and some can be published to subdomains and some to custom domains.
Regarding the 'old' address, your site will be published to both addresses so visitors can reach your site with either. In the future, we'll redirect users who visit your old address to your new one, but we don't have this feature live yet.
Good luck with your new domain if you get one! -
Inappropriate?how i wish to have my own domain name but many of my friends know my site
and distributed lots of flyers with the synthasite on it. Some of my friends want to build a website and told them about synthasite. You are great help to us who are not computer savvy.

Hi Mar. See Chris' comment above. I think what he has written addresses your concern about the flyers you have printed out. We appreciate your support. Thank you for telling your friends about us! -

what is a website? -
Inappropriate?Hi Susan,
Have you uploaded the mp3 or music file, you would like to play on your page onto your SynthaSite, by using the File Manager button at the top of your page?
* In the Widgetbox dialogue box, once you have selected the Google Audio widget, click on 'Settings'
* Change the url to something like: http ://mysite.synthasite.com/resources/filename.mp3
> where 'mysite' is the name of your published site
> and filename.mp3 is the name of the music file you've uploaded and would like to hear.
* Republish your site for the changes to occur live on the internet.
Please ignore the space between the http : ( there should be no space) -

Hi there - you'll need to edit settings on your domain so that it points to SynthaSite. You can get more information on this thread: http://getsatisfaction.com/SynthaSite.... Let us know if you need any other help. -
Inappropriate? My domain is hosted by yahoo. However, your domain service is less expensive and I will consider moving. Is there an e-mail service that comes with the service?
-
You can request to support@synthasite.com after you bought a domain. -
