  • Hello andreakahn1

We've been experiencing some errors after the release of our new Text Widget and been busy fixing them. Please refer to our thread New Text Widget - Status Update for details. I wanted to check if the errors you're reporting are still orccuring in your Yola account, but the account I found using your forum e-mail address doesn't have any websites. Do you have another Yola account by any chance and could let me know the URL of your published site or login e-mail address (no password)?

  • Hi Stephan,

Thank you (!) for your reply. I only have 1 account but worked on a few versions of it before going live. My live account is What Would Your Pet Say. Also, it's under the email: Andrea@Petspeakart.com

The actual url of the live account is http://petspeakart.com

Please (PLEASE) do not touch, move, adjust or change anything in any way on my LIVE site. Again, PLEASE don't move or change anything that would in any way alter the spacing, the colors, or any incremental thing. Mine is an art site and I've worked long and hard to design it and do not want it changed.

All I really want is to have a sitebuilder that permits me to select ANY type size I want freely, to design freely with space. The other rep dealing with this issue keeps suggesting to users that we are seeking "consistency" from page to page: I am NOT, which is why I began with a BLANK yola page and designed, very carefully, my own site.

Basically, the sitebuilder is the problem, not my webpage.
The sitebuilder is now counter-intuitive for anyone who wants to utilize their desgin skills and "go outside the box" (i.e,, not just stick stuff into a template, page after page).

The color wheel is tedious vs a click/swatch palette. No one wants to have to jot down the number of each color chosen.

It seems to me that the new sitebuilder is an effort to dumb down the type of sites created by users; I chose yola initially because it offered me creative freedom, unlike most of the other sites that have their own sitebuilders similar to your new one.

I simply want choice + freedom for the best possible, and most creative display of my work. I want to be able to edit freely and easily to my OWN style, not just to select from limited "template" type choices.

Thanks verymuch Stephan, I hope yola will find a way to make corrections TO SITEBUILDER (NOT to my website! again, please do not OPEN IT and SAVE it again...I do not want to come upon any changes I HAVE NOT MADE).

    Thank you for your help.

  • Hello Andrea

Certainly we will never open your Sitebuilder and save changes without your consent. What I sometimes do is create a duplicate of a page as a test page in order to do some necessary tests, but this page wouldn't be in your menu and can be deleted by the user easily.

When I look at your website, I can't think of a reason why the design you created couldn't be achieved by using the Style Designer. With introducing this tool, we're trying to meet an important need of a vast majority of our small business users which is design consistency. I'd say that it'd also work for an artist's website, and that such a website would benefit from a certain design scheme.

This doesn't mean that we take away individual customization options of the Text Widget from you. You can still use the new Text Editing Toolbar to e.g. choose unusual font sizes, while you'd set your default font sizes in your Style Designer. Design consistency will make your website look more professional according to all webdesign experts, and as I understand your website, you also run a small business.

The colour wheel is actually more useful than what we had before because it allows you now to add your custom colour code. Previously you had to edit your HTML code to get a particular colour for which you had the code. Before building a website, professional webdesigners always make up a colour scheme for their design and make sure to store the respective colour codes for any element on the site where they need to apply it. This allows you again to ensure design consistency.

I think that you still have the freedom you intially liked about Yola, but you may have not found the new spots where to edit the things you'd like to achieve. If you have any questions on how to achieve certain design customization, please don't hesitate to contact us for assistance. We'll be happy to help.
