USING AN ALREADY REGISTERED DOMAIN
1. Can you use a domain that is already registered and parked with say godaddy or do you have to set up a subdomain with yola and have godaddy forward the domain to the subdomain of yola?
2. If it has to be forwarded from godaddy how does this effect the spidering and indexing of the yola site by google?

Inappropriate? If you have registered it, then the only option is either use DNS to point to the IP Address of Yola.
Or the easyier way which is do a stealth forward.
Google will index just fine since its a stealth forward, GoDaddy allows people to add a "PAGE TITLE" and description so it masks it.
But if you have a large website then it will not work too well
Stealth always stays on "www.yourpage.com" even when you navigate to another page on your site. If you refresh it goes back to the index.
E.G you cant use "www.yoursite.com/anotherpage.html" because it doesn't work on a mask forward.
The best and professional way is to point your CNAME DNS to the IP Address given by Yola. -
Inappropriate?Hi there Kevin,
Yes you can use a domain that you purchased through GoDaddy.
Here are the instructions to set up your domain:
You need to set up your A Record to point to Yola. Here's how:
1. Login to your GoDaddy account.
2. Under "My Products" on the menu on the left, click on "Show all my Products" and then click on "Domain Manager". This will take you to your GoDaddy domain manager in a new tab.
3. From the "Domain Manager" interface, click on the domain you want to edit.
4. Click on "Total DNS Control and MX Records".
5. Now you need to edit your A record. Click on the "edit" icon in the section: A("host").
6. In the box where it says "Points To IP Address:" put the Yola IP: 208.75.208.172 and click OK.
7. Under CNAMES (Aliases), the host name for "www" should be "@" (this is to ensure that your address works with and without "www").
8. Your domain should now point to Yola. You can test if this has worked by typing your domain into your browser. If all has worked correctly you should end up on a placeholder page displaying your site name. Don't be too worried if this is not the case, bear in mind that DNS changes, like you have just made, can take up to 48 hours to propagate through the internet.
9. In the Site Builder, click on the yellow "Publish my Site" button, Click on the link in the bottom left hand corner of the dialog box that says "I already own a domain name".. Fill in your address and follow the steps until your site is published.
If after 48 hours your domain is still not working as you would like, see the section in the tutorial below on domain diagnosis and troubleshooting.
Please click here for a really useful tutorial outlining the steps to getting and setting up your domain: Using a Domain Name not purchased through Yola
If you have any problems publishing your site please let us know.
It shouldn't have any effect on the indexing and spidering of your site at all.
I hope this helps.
