Why won't some widgets or text boxes load properly on my home blog page but load fine on others pages?
I'm not able to add widgets or they get placed somewhere else on my blog page which I consider my "home page". On the other pages on my site, I don't have this difficulty. I do have a video link on the blog home page, is this why I am having the problem? It is very frustarting.

Inappropriate?Hello kristin,,
This should be able to be done. Would you ind posting your URL and maybe we'll get a clue of why this is happening/not happening on your page. -
Hi Peter, my url is http://www.masonmetu.com. Thanks for looking into it for me. I even have the difficulty with adding text boxes or images - very slow or it moves it to another spot or doesn't add it at all. Thanks. -
Inappropriate?Hi Kristin,
Thanks for your response.
Lovely site and BIG! I can see it's a work of love.
May I ask a few questions?
What browser are you using to build your site?
Did problems only occur after placing your video?
Do you get any HTML error notification when placing any code or widget?
Did errors only appear after you began placing stuff beneath your blog? -
Hi Peter, yes lots of TLC in this one - but it's been fun. I got a new laptop and I've been using Microsoft Explorer. I was able to work with the items even with the video on there - but its only been lately that I've had the major problems.
I did not get an HTML notification - the widget woule either just not get placed or it would get placed at a different spot and then it was difficult to move it around.
The errors occur more on the top portion of the blog page. Where I have my Welcome Info - I have been trying to manipulate things there and that is where the trouble is.
I also have Mozilla browser on my computer so I could try that and see if I'm having the same problems. -
Inappropriate? Thanks Krisitin..I would recommend Mozilla as the browser for creating your site. Seems to be fewer robs and is the preferred browser here on Yola.
I'm going to have a look at your site again with an eye to why.
In the meantime can I suggest that you remove the TV and copy the code completely into Notepad and save it as a notepad file so that you can easily recover it later.
Have another go at your site and see if this helps. I'll be back.
I got distracted darn it. Your content is simply too good! -
Inappropriate?Hi kristin,
There is nothing obvious on your published page that rings bells.
recently another author had some problems with this style adding advertisements and widgets. I can't recall the outcome and I think it was Lee who may have observed some aspect. If you or I catch Lee it's woth asking him I think.
Sorry I couldn't give you any more specific detail.
Your page is getting quite big and I have seen problems to do with overall page size. this may be a consideration.
I'll certainly keep this thread marked and keep coming back to see what's happening. -
Inappropriate?Hi Peter - I ended up going to bed so I missed your latest emails. I'll try out Mozilla and see if that will help. I can also try to reduce the page size and move some things around. Thanks for the feedback, I really appreciate it.
-
Inappropriate? My pleasure Kristin. I'll try and catch Lee's attention as well.
-
looks like a IE problem to me - and maybe like you said the amount of the content.
Kristin - did this happen after you added a object or when Yola changed names? -
.... The issues i have had are placments of flash inside a 2 column widget, is the top of the blog designed with 2 2-column widgets? -
Hi Lee & Peter, I think it's an IE problem. I was just using Mozilla and I can move everything around with ease and get widgets, etc. I'll use Mozilla from now on. I had the problem even before the change to Yola (love that) when I was adding objects. Thanks for all your help and for having this awesome tool to use. -
Thanks Lee. -
I've played around with a 2-2 column and 3 column one and I was using a 3 column one this time at the top of the page but with Mozilla it is fine. -
Inappropriate?Kristin - glad its fixed - There are lot of people struggling with IE at the minute.
On a un related topic - the image on your 'masonmetu home' page is huge, its slowing the load time of the whole page, i would recommend editing it in Picnik to a smaller size then replace it.
-
same thing with other images - birthday parties is another example.
PS great site, very well made - did you burn out the keys of your old laptop? :) -
ahh, now I need to figure out Picnik -oh my. I see what you mean about it being so big. I need to work on that. Thanks for the positive feedback on the site - my old dinosaur PC could not keep up that's for sure. :) -
picnik is as easy to use a yola - just resize them thats all they need.
Notepad is built into windows - its always a good idea to first copy text into notepad then from notepad copy it into Yola - It seems pointless but its actually stripping the text of unwanted code - Bewarned that all links etc in the original text will disappear when run through notepad.
Good luck with your site and life in general - Lee. -
Inappropriate?Hi there Kristin,
Often these problems are caused by faulty HTML on your page that may be causing it to display incorrectly. Have you added text or content from an outside source?
If you add any text from an outside source you need to add it to a program like notepad to strip the formatting out from it first. Otherwise it can damage your site. If you think it might be something in particular you can delete it and see if helps.
If you are still experiencing problems you can email us at support@yola.com or click on the "Help" tab in your site builder and click contact support and we will be able to help you further.
-
Hi Jeremy, thanks for the info. Yes, I have added text from outside sources - so new to this that I don't know all the ins/outs. I will do the notepad thing - if I can figure that out too. Thanks for the feedback. -
Hi Kristin,
Not a problem. You simply select the text and right click and select 'copy', you then go to notepad and again right click and select 'paste'.
You then repeat the process from notepad to your site remembering once the text is copied to notepad you should delete the text widget you had and then add a new one to add the text from notepad to.
(you can also use 'ctrl - a' to select all your text in the widget and then 'ctrl - c' to copy and 'ctrl - v' to paste)
I hope this helps - if you have any problems please let us know.
