Site / code problem

putting together a new site at
http://www.secretthoughts.info/ and added a code to open the "Our Privacy Policies" in a pop-up type window.
This works well and goes on the desktop . On my laptop it opens the "Our Privacy Policies" in a different tab. Both computer use fire fox. Suggestions?
Would like to make this work.

Go to tools on Firefox then to options...tabs... see if you have the same settings on both computers.

I check that and all appears to be matched. will do it again 2b sure. I've been trying to get it on ie8 but both lock up with ie8. have got in far enough to find a bug error with ie8
"line 149 Invalid Argument"
I'll double check the fire fox options again and will try to get page source with area where code line is 149 error

Thanks for the help

Hi papa

on FF, it opened up in a new smaller window, but in IE7, it opened up in the same window (no new window or tab).

Thank you littleus

donald was looking for something like this and I thought it would be nice to try. So many different results I think I'll probably go back to the menu instead of fanciness.
Thanks for peeking.

as its a different site i presume there is a problem with the code - perhaps you missed something when adding target="_blank"

go back and check it very well.

got the code from http://www.dynamicdrive.com/dynamicin...

I'll be sure to give your suggestion a try. I mostly do the copy and paste thing in coding. Might change a few thing around but self thought on this stuff.

basically what I'd like to have is just a pop-up that i can add text to. doesn't need to go to any outside site.

thank you for your suggestion

sorry - i thought you were adding a link that opened in a new tab, It pops up for me in Firefox and says 'hello world'. I think the background on your site has a issue, perhaps its the wrong size? its making evertyhing look out of line. If you are getting different results on different computers it muist be a browser setting. I would look at the background issue it will make the site look much better.

The dimension of background is 1000 x 196 and is a combination of two different backgrounds that I put together threw "paint" and thought it was alright. You're the first one to notice that and thank you for pointing that out. They have alway look good but I can look at closer.
Do you happen to know what dimension I should be using? I have looked but could never find. On other sites I had to adjust a number of times for them to fit.

The style that I'm using here is SqueakyClean w/Corrugated.

I have scrap that code from dynamicdrive and this new one is from http://www.w3schools.com/JS/tryit.asp... and seem to work on all my computers correctly. I'm glad that it function on yours also. The "main page" is a different code from same place I think. Up 2 many hours yesterday but happy to find one that work.

Thank You for being out there and for sharing as I have read others articles by you and they have given me something to learn from.

papa - this is what i see in firefox - you see the right side of the screen does not look correct - you can not see the 'My Best P...' tab.

I have no experience of backgrounds - but im sure its a size issue.
If i had my normal internet connection i would investigate it for you but im on a internet cafe set up and i just dont have the time (sorry)

see the image this is what im seeing

Yes they have been a great help, but I still have same problem as when i started and is some where in my computers. Perhaps you could go to http://www.secretthoughts.info/ and at the very bottom of page click on Privacy Policies and let me know if it open in a pop-up window over that page, in a new tab, or in a new window . The Privacy Policies Box under Previous Page Box I believe is the best way to go.
thank you to Littleus, John, Duke, and you for you help

Hey papa

I checked it out again. In IE7, the privacy policies are still opening up in the same window instead of a pop-up or new window. I wonder if the easiest thing to do is to just simply use <!--<a href="your site's url" target="_blank">--> In FF, this opens up in a new tab, and in IE7, it opens up in a smaller window on top of the already open window.

just finish updating http://www.secretthoughts.info/ and think I'm going to go this route. The Before You Share Box at bottom of home page and top of all other page now should open a box like Ruth screen shot. This seems to work the best on all computer that I have. The mother in law and for the mother I'll have to redo with different design as they don't line up right. Now I'll have to come up with a form page for submitting people article in any chooses to do so. Hopeful it will be a nice positive site. Or they could just do email.

Thanks to all for help, and Customer Support Community for your help and assistance.

Pop up now works in both FF and IE7! Nice going!! =)

The only thing I would suggest, is you may need to make your background wider. The green text goes right over the dark green border, making it very hard to read. I've attached a screenshot:

In Firefox:

In IE7:

As for the form, you could check out www.jotform.com. They seem to have a file upload, but as to what size you can upload and how it all works, I don't know. You'll have to look into that. Hopefully, you can find something that meets your needs.

oh yuk
that looks terrible. The Duke said things were not lining up either. I'll have to change then to a solid background and cure the illness and try keep viewers coming back and viewing a good looking site in all browsers. Thank for letting me know.
