Hello Jennifer

To test this I have created a test page on your website named "index-test" (this page isn't linked nor online, and you can delete it any time on your own).

I have created a text link (looking) in your text below "Welcome to Zion Hoops", checking the "Open in new window" option. I also created a picture link with the same option for the first image on the left. When I check these links in Preview, they both open my external URL in a new tab.

Can you please check my test page and the links I created in your Yola Sitebuilder Preview? Let me know how that goes.

Yes both your links work and open in new windows.
If you go to my new page here- http://www.zionhoops.com/local-custom...
this is where I'm having my most trouble.
All of the pictures and all of the "click here to view tapes" I have set to link somewhere on my site and also open in new windows.
But none of them are opening in new windows.

Hello Jennifer

When I check your URL, this is what happens when I click on your pictures or the "click here to view tapes" links:
  • When I click for the first time, the link opens in a new tab.

  • However, when I click on another link afterwards, it opens in the same new tab as the first one – this is most probably an error, and I have logged it for our engineers.

Did you mean this?

When clicking for the first time, your link should definitely open in a new tab/window. If it doesn't, can you please try in a different browser?

I have noticed it does that too! (when it works)
So that is a whole different issue, lol.

Ok, I have tried 3 different browsers... the only browser where my links are opening in new tabs is Internet Explorer, which is my least favorite browser and I do not use it.
Chrome and Firefox both are giving me the issue I explained to you earlier.

I know the "open in new tab" feature used to work for me always. And I used sitebuilder in Firefox. So I dont understand what the sudden issue could be. It seems like something is wrong with Yola. The other day I had a customer tell me when he clicked any of the "click here to view tapes" links it just gave him a 404 error. So I basically had to go in, delete all those links, and re-write them. Now I am having this issue. something's up!!
Thanks for working on this issue!

Hello Jennifer

I can't confirm that your picture and text links ("Click here to view tapes") won't open in new tabs at all. On my side they always do, though always in the same new tab. I have tested this both on a Mac and a PC, and in all Yola-supported browsers. I have also checked the HTML code behind your links, and they all say target="new" in the < a > tag which is the necessary code to open in a new tab/window, so there is no error in the HTML code behind your links, either.

When you say they don't open for you in a new window, what do they actually do? Do they open in a new tab, or in the same window/tab? If they open in a new tab instead of a new window, this depends on your individual browser settings. If they open in the same browser tab, can you please let me know the versions of the browsers where it's not working?

Also, did you happen to copy text from other sources and paste them into your Text Widgets where your links are? The HTML code shows some mark-ups which aren't typical for a Text Widget when you enter text directly. It's not recommended to paste text from other programmes into the Text Widget as they come with a hidden formatting which is mostly not webfriendly. If you do want to copy/paste text, you should paste it into a programme like Notepad or Text Editor first to strip the formatting.

they open in the same window I'm in. Meaning I have to click the back button to go back to where I was... which is exactly what I dont want my user to have to do.
I am using Firefox 18.0.1

Its only doing that on this page http://www.zionhoops.com/local-custom...
Also if you see on that page, its pretty much a copy of the "build your hoop" page. So if thats what you mean by copying text... yes I copy the text from the "build your hoop page" and put it on the "local" page instead of typing it all out again. I would have never thought that would create some code error.
Do you think that's what is causing the issue? hmmm, but I'm not copying the pictures!! and they aren't opening in a new window either.

Hello Jennifer

Yes, I'm supposing that some wrong formatting is causing the issue on your end. However, it's strange that I can't replicate it on my side at all.

If you want to copy/paste from Text Widgets, you shouldn't copy from the Text Widget directly, but you can copy the HTML code of the Text Widget and paste this to the HTML Editor of another Text Widget. When you click into a Text Widget, the Text Editing Toolbar will appear at the top where you can click on the HTML icon on the very right. Then the HTML Editor of the Text Widget will open, and you'll be able to copy the code completely and add it to the HTML Editor of another Text Widget. This will create an identical copy of the first Text Widget, with all the same formatting and links.

As I'm running out of ideas, can I please ask you a big favour? Can you please re-create the elements on the pages where the open in a new window option is not working? You can test this on a test page first by saving the page in question as a new page (Page > Save Page As). Delete only the Text Widgets with the links which don't open in a new window, drag and drop new Text Widgets, and re-add your content. Don't copy/paste, but type your text. When you're finished, create the links, and check the Open in new window option. I'm pretty sure it will work then because you'll have a clean formatting for your Yola Sitebuilder.

Let me know when you're finished, and if it's working on your end. I'll be happy to check it again then.
