Being a Mozilla Firefox user, I use security plug-ins like the popular WOT (Web Of Trust). However, I am quite surprised to see that the ratings for any website under the ".yolasite.com" sub-domain has a poor rating.

When I was checking my website and some other sites under the .yolasite.com sub-domain, I was greeted with yellow WOT circles. This means that the site has an unsatisfactory trust level. When I went on the official WOT website to look for more information regarding this rating, I found this web page.

It kind of disgusts me at how inappropriate the rating for .yolasite.com sub-domains are. The yola.com domain is fine however, with an excellent trust/reputation level.

Most, if not all sites made under the yolasite sub-domain is perfectly safe and legitimate, so I have no idea why is .yolasite.com having a bad rating. It's the fact that because of this rating, any free website made under the .yolasite.com sub-domain will automatically have an unsatisfactory reputation, even if the site will just be a field of text saying "hello."

Something has to be done about this. It's just not right.

Hi Roley

Thank you for reporting this. Because we host user-generated content we are always vulnerable to rating sites such as these. WOT ratings are based on their own user reviews, and a negative review against any one of our millions of yolasite subdomains can result in a negative rating for all. As you correctly point out, the rating for Yola.com is fine, because we have full control over the content on that domain.

Yola has a highly responsive and dedicated abuse team and we are 100% committed for ensuring that our sitebuilder and hosting is used for it's intended purpose: to allow people to create a professional online presence. To this end we respond promptly to any report we receive about an abuse of our service. However, we have less control when people decide to give us a bad review on some other site (like WOT) instead of choosing to work with us to actually resolve the problem in a productive manner. We have had this issue before and we have tried to ask WOT to work with us, but they prefer to allow their users the freedom to post reviews without interference. In this instance it seems that the negative rating results from one bad review for "supporting spammers" and the URL in the review links to a site that we have already disabled a long time ago! So of course it is most unfair to accuse Yola of "supporting spammers" as spamming is against our terms of service and we have already taken action in this particular case and any others that have been reported to us! But people often like to make sensational statements, rather than checking the facts.

So I agree that something needs to be done! Here is what I suggest:

1) As a WOT user you also have a vote. Use your voice to write a positive review of your own for Yola on the WOT site. Also, contact WOT to let them know that this one negative review, against a site that has already been taken down, is unfairly and negatively affecting the rating of millions of legitimate sites. The more people who do this the better!

2) If you are serious about your website and you would like to ensure that you are in charge of your own online reputation, invest in a custom domain so that negative reviews against other yolasites will never affect your site.

From our side:

1) We will continue to respond promptly and decisively to any abuses of our service as we become aware of them.

2) Contact WOT again to find out if anything more can be done from our side to improve our rating.
