Hi Smithy,
Yes, that is correct that we cannot accept .info domains for transfer, but if you have it pointed at this time it can definitely remain that way. The inability to point with a free account will only go into effect for new sites being published. Anything you are currently pointing can stay that way indefinitely.

Hope that helps!

I don't like this change. Why are you guys making this change? Even though I have Yola Silver, I still don't think this is right. Is there a specific reason for this?

Hello Nathan

I'm sorry that you do not like this change. The decision to make this change did not come about quickly. We have put a lot of thought into this and I'd be happy to share with you where we are coming from. Until now, we have provided free pointing because we were still growing as a company, trying to establish ourselves as one of the leading website building services. We are thrilled to see how much we have grown but as a result, we have to deal with both the increased load, and the fact that we have become more of a target for hackers.

Our customers, whether they are Yola Free users or Yola Siver users are important to us. We wanted to be sure that we could continue to provide our hosting for free for all customers. However, we needed to find a way to help offset these costs. We believe that the fairest way we could accomplish this was to include the option to point in the Yola Silver package, or offer customers the option to purchase their domain from us or transfer it.

I want to reiterate that any domain that is currently pointed to our servers can remain pointed for free indefinitely. We hope by keeping this in place, the impact on our existing customers will be limited.

Furthermore, anyone who has Yola Silver or upgrades to Yola Silver can point as many domains to us as they wish.

I hope that helps to clarify why we took the approach we did.

Thanks for this reply, Sanja! So if we have Yola Silver we can still point our domain names to Yola? I am going to be buying a custom domain from Yola anyways so it wont matter.

I have one question about Yola Silver. The domain credit we get with it, is that separate to pay every year? Or is it included in the $99.95/yr?

Thanks for this very detailed response! That all makes sense now. :)

Thanks,
Nathan

Hello Nathan,

Yes, if you have Yola Silver, you can continue to point your domains to Yola.

I will have someone from the Payments Department clarify how this works regarding the Yola Silver and domain renewal. Thanks for your patience.

Hi Nathan,

The renewal cost for Yola Silver will include a domain credit which you can use towards renewing your domain or purchasing a new one.

I hope this helps!

Thanks,
Jackie

Does this mean that Yola free account holders can't publish to a domain they own ?

Does Yola silver account holders have to buy a domain or transfer it to Yola ?(not allowed to use other registrars ?)

Hello Silverx - if you are a free account holder, you can either transfer your domain to Yola or purchase a top-level domain from us.

If you have a domain purchased elsewhere and would like to use it on Yola, you will have to be a Silver account holder. Silver account holders also get a domain credit that can be used to purchase a domain name or renew one that has been purchased through Yola.

Hello Marije,

What about URL forwarding? I mean for free Yola users, is this possible henceforward?

@Valika: I think you are allowed to do URL forwarding. But it won't work for deep links.
@Marije: That's a fair deal. A domain is $10 in Godaddy but in Yola(opensrs), it's $20. Now, the extra $20 has a real value.

But what if a user has a .me, .info or any other gtld ? I suggest that allowing users to use own domain from original registrar with a cost to Yola for domain mapping(exactly what wordpress does).

Thank you for the information, Marije!

@Valika: You can use URL forwarding but you still won't be able to publish your site to the address and there are some limitations in terms of SEO, analytics etc.
@Silverx: people with domains that can't be transferred will have to upgrade to Silver. I'm going to confirm this however and come back to you if it's any different.

Ok , I have had the enjoyment of setting up a site through Yola. I have a free site right now. Yesterday I bought a domain.

Question 1 : how does my own domain help me here ?

Q-2 : will this boot me to the side as a user with no support from Yola ?

Q-3 : Can I pay the 9 dollars a month as a monthly billing off may credit card or do I have to pay for silver in one lump sum ?

I have tried to link up Big Commerce to my free web page and there search engine could not find my page, I'm new a this but I think I know that this should have worked. It was like my web page was fire-walled. I have had some of the same affect with Google Attics. With my "New" Domain name under Yola will I get the same affect.

I Love Yola's support, I think the web page setup is very easy to work with
and hope to be here for many years to come.

Thanks Russ

Hi Russell

I am glad to hear that you enjoyed creating your site through us. I would be happy to answer your questions!

1) Having your own domain is always a good thing. It helps you by making your address more memorable and professional. If you have already bought a domain elsewhere you can transfer it to us, or upgrade your account to Yola Silver and point it to us. In fact if you hurry and point your domain to us today you can do so for free.

2) Will this boot you to the side with no support from Yola? Absolutely not! On the contrary if you upgrade to Yola Silver you will receive premium support which includes priority email support and phone support 24/7. Even if you decide not to upgrade we will continue to offer you support and customer service. We just will not be able to assist you with pointing your domain to us.

3) Monthly billing is not available at this time. The fee is charged annually.

4) I am not familiar with Big Commerce and their set up requirements. Can you us me know what instructions you are trying to follow from them and we will let you know if it is possible with Yola.

We also hope to have you with us for years to come! Reach out to us for help whenever you need it!

Hello, I know this it totally of topic but I saw your site and had to tell you a lil' suggestion you could use. Your doing well, but your login system is far to complicated- I noticed you are creating a new site simply for a login. No, do not use that way- it's far to time taking. Why not simply get a javascript HTML login code, fully editable- you can change the border, background color, etc- just place it around the code. Here's the link:

http://www.javascriptkit.com/script/s...

If you need more help, ask me, I've used the code many times, it's great. I would use other, better qualites codes, like PHP and mySQL, but however Yola doesn't support these as far as I know.

P.S. Don't forget to encrypt your code as soon as you've finished re editiing it. If you need more help, ask.

Instead of taking such a complex method of creating a new whole site just for a new user, just use ONE login that can hold unlimited users.

Hi ACoolOne

Are you talking to me, or, who? (Sorry, I don't see who you are talking to :)) That script isn't very secure though, because anyone that knows how to decode a script can get all of the usernames and passwords which wont be good. You wont be able to say "Welcome, USER" and you can't have a sign up form that will automatically add it to a database like on Authpro either. Are you just talking about to secure a page?

Thanks,
Nathan

'Sup Nathan :D

No, I am talking to the creator of the website.
1. Yes, but *sigh* PHP and mySQL isn't supported by Yola... This is the best we can get (Don't forget, encrypting helps much)

And about "Welcome user" Not it can.. You can actually enter anything you want, like "yo joe" or "sup chris" as a pop up once correct login information is input. or you could simply put that on the page once logged in

I use Authpro.com for mine. Go see and login if you want... http://my.nathansmusicstudio.cz.cc

Hopefully someday PHP is supported!

Hello Sanja, My turn to have questions on the domain pointing.
You replied to Nathan all users who currently have domains pointing to yola will continue to have indefinitely. I would like to ask -

I have a free account and paid for the removal of the Yola footer and from what I understand, as I have 4 domains (.co.nz and .com domains) pointing to my site , these will continue to point to Yola always at no extra charge to me at all. and this applies to free as well as Silver (or others when they come in).

Question 1 - as I am probably going to transfer to Silver, and with my domains pointing to my site as at present, what if after a period of time perhaps year or so (which probably won't happen, but who knows) I decide to come down from the Silver and return to the free account ? - will my domains still be able to be pointed to my site at no extra cost?

Question 2 - Said before, love all the changes. Will make things a lot easier to have Silver, but personally I would not use quite a few of the things on offer with Silver and by the sound of things a .com is also included in the price - however, as I am in NZ and do not wish to have one (I own .com's already), it seems that I shall be paying extra for something not required! Seems a little not right that this is included when some may not wish to have?

thanks Sanja
PS (Must own up that the main thing holding me back at present from Silver (well, until end financial year, end march, as have a few bills to pay) is the price of the new Silver each year at US$99.95 equating to NZ$$132.00 our money! (our NZ rate of exchange is almost $NZ1.32 to $US1.00 - and getting worse).

Hello JC

I am asking a colleague for further clarification around your question #1. I will need to get back to you.

Yola Silver is a package deal - and while you may not need or want a custom domain (.com, .org, .net or .biz), there are plenty of other fantastic features included which we believe makes this package worthwhile.

I'm sorry to hear that the exchange rate is so high. We do have promotions that run from time to time which may help to offset the cost. Please be sure to keep subscribed to our email so that you can get the latest information!

Hello JC

Thanks for your patience. So.. this is what will happen. If you are already a Yola Free user and your domains were already pointing to us, they will continue to point to us when you upgrade to Silver. Should you decide to downgrade, your domain pointing will remain intact.

However, if you are Yola Free user and are using domain pointing for the first time, then you will need to upgrade to Silver to enable this feature. You will need to keep renewing Yola Silver if you wish to continue using domain pointing. Once you let your Yola Silver expire, then the domain pointing feature will be removed.

I hope that helps to clear things up!
