How can i make a sitemap so as to add my sitemap to google's webmaster tools?

when i click the link to the other post you mention it comes back to this same post... am i missing something? i too am looking for the information on adding a sitemap to google's webmaster.

If you submit it to Google, how long does it take to become active?

Hi Chris - it takes a few hours (anything up to 48) for Google to verify your sitemaps. Verifying your site with Google using the Webmaster code is almost instant.

How would we go about submitting sitemaps to other search engines?

Each search engine should have a place where you can add a site map. For example, you can add a site map to Yahoo by going to Yahoo Site explorer signing up and adding your site.

You can search for "Add site map to search engine of your choice" for detailed instructions of individual search engines.

I am a true novice to this type of stuff but this is what I did. Generated an online sitemap XML file here: http://www.xml-sitemaps.com/.

Followed the instructions
saved full version to my desktop
created a new page on my website (do not have it show up on the menu)
drag 'file' into field
browse for file on your desktop
upload
save and then publish your site

Make note of the address to your new page and submit that address to add sitemap (general) on the Google Webmaster Tools. My submission is currently pending, as soon as I get info I will share it here.
