Adding An Animated Gif As Your Yola Banner

Hey guys.
Having a couple of questions with my site before I continue building. First of all can I use animated Gifs as a Yola banner? Is there a way of getting around this?

Second of all im looking to make an animated gif but all the online generators have limits at aprox. 350px. I really want a big one somewhere in the realms of at least 900x300. Most of the software I have found is either not working on my PC(XP Home) or costs money. (My budget is nought.)
Is there any Software anyone can suggest that would do the job, with my requirements.

Yes, you can use an animated gif for the banner. It will allow jpgs, pngs, gifs.
I think Ed had found a gif maker that would allow bigger sizes but I will have to go through my bookmarks. Will let you know if I find it.

Photoscape is freeware, will do the job, and is very easy to use.

Hello Dill

Yes.. you can definitely use an animated gif for your banner. I've always enjoyed using this online photo editing program: http://pixlr.com/editor

I don't know if that will suit your needs or not.

Hello Gilbert

The reason why it's not working is most probably that your gif image doesn't have the exact dimension of your banner area. The dimensions are 960x170px. If the custom banner image you add doesn't have these dimensions, Sitebuilder will crop your image to fit into the banner area. The cropping process may remove rotating or transparency effects.

You've got two options:
  1. Either you create a new gif image with the required dimensions. Please make sure to add 1px to the height, so your image will be 960x171px (This is necessary because there is currently an error. If the 171px height doesn't work for you, make it 170px, and I can help you adjust the height of your banner area in your Site CSS.)

  2. Or you edit the banner dimensions in your Site CSS.

If you choose the first option, let me know if this doesn't work either. If it's the second, I'd be able to assist you with that. I've tested it on a test page I created in your account (index-test), and the rotation is working there (however the dimensions must be fixed as the Style displays a bit strangely in that area). You can delete this test page at any time, and it's not in your main navigation.

Please note: For either of the options your image should have a width of 960px. The height of your banner area is easily adaptable via your Site CSS. Sorry that it's a bit compliacted right now to get this working, but I'm happy to guide you through the whole process.

Hello Gilbert

An update from me: I must correct myself on the error which used to be there. This has been fixed. So what you would basically need to do is either to provide a .gif image which has the same dimensions as the default banner area of your Style, or change the banner area dimensions to the dimensions of your .gif image. I wouldn't recommend the latter option because it won't look nice on your Style to reduce the banner area width by 10px (960 vs. 950px). The example on the index test page I created is working, but not looking good, so your best bet is to provide a banner image with the dimensions 960x170px.
