Adding current events!

If I wanted to add news or current events to my site... what would be the best way to do this so it isn't too much time consuming? Are there services and widgets that will automatically insert a current events article (based on chosen perimeters)?

Hi Donald,

You could achieve this by using an RSS feed.

This is how to add an RSS widget to your site:

1. Open the widgets folder on the sidebar to your right.
2. Drag and drop the "RSS feed" widget onto your page.
3. Click on "Edit" on the green widget tool bar
4. In the properties sidebar click on "edit your link"
5. A link editor will open up. You need to replace the default URL with a URL of a feed that you want. For example, pasting the following URL will create a Yahoo! News RSS feed: http://rss.news.yahoo.com/rss/topstories.
6. When you are done click "OK" in the link editor and then click "apply" in the properties side bar.

An RSS feed with automatically updated links on the subject of your choice will be added to your site.

Alternatively, you can easily add an RSS feed to your site with a widget from our Widgetbox Gallery, this is how:

1. Drag and drop a Widgetbox Gallery widget onto your page.
2. A dialogue box will open, search for 'RSS' to see all the widgets available.
3. Choose the RSS feed you would like to use on your site.
4. Edit your settings to customise your widget.
5. Click on the green 'Get Widget' button and it will be saved and added to your page.
6. Save and preview your page to view the widget.

Google Gadgets (you'll find the widget for that in the content sidebar at the right of your screen) also have a wide selection of RSS feeds, some of which are customizable.

Is this what you had in mind?

so... I would actually be using current events of another site? Does this redirect to that site? Or is the current events actually on my site?

Specific widgets redirect the feed onto your site. You don't leave your site to read them

There are many options for this. The feed shows in the window of the widget reader. It can be static or like a news ticker. Depends on which you have selected.

ok... it's just an option I'm exploring and not sure if I'm going to add current events or not.

I would like to add that although you get the feed show, if you click on the feed topic or news, you will be taken away from your site. One way to rectify this is to choose the option of including the full summary instead of snippets. However, this can make for a fairly long feed reader.

Hey Donald,

Dapper is a web service that allows you to take content from any site and put it on your site the way you want it. For instance my brother created one where he got the premier league table and standings all updated and correct without having to edit it. He used Dapper to take the table and standings from the BBC sports website so when they update it, it would be updated on his site.

I was thinking you could do something similiar from any current events website.
