Hello,
Unfortunately adding a DVD to your site is not possible; there is a 15MB singe file upload limit for the Standard Yola account and a 100MB for Yola Pro. There would also be copyright issues to be concerned about.

Kind Regards,
Emmy

this brings up a question... if you upload music and copyrighted materials to a site but NEVER publish it (say for person storage use only) do copyright laws exist?

thanks Emmy, I do have resale rights to sell this DVD which I wanted to add to my site for the public to purchase. I have not checked to see if it is less than 15MB, would it be possible to add if it was decompressed somehow? It is a 30 min DVD.

If not possible can you recomend another way for the puplic to view without storing on the website, maybe if customers could save the DVD link or something.

Thanks

Hi Alan,

Are you wanting to offer something as a digital download that someone would need to pay for? Here is a link to a thread with more information on a service that you can use to do this: Selling digital products.

Possibly this will help with what you are wanting to do.

Yes, I am planning to offer a digital download, but Looking at the thread you mentioned I would need to sign up to another service called payloadz, as well as palpal to sell my product, is this correct.

Thanks

Hi Adam - that is correct, you would need to use Payloadz and PayPal to sell a digital product for download as we don't have this specific feature available on Yola at the moment.

Hello,
I am not sure if you have made a decision of what you are going to do but have found some options for you.
-You can get a free flv converter and convert the video to .flv format which is much smaller.
-Have a video hosting site like Viddler
-Of course the paypal thing like you are already talking about
-Ask someone nicely with a Pro account to host it for you (like me :D)
This are just a few, let me know your thoughts.

Hi,

I have decided to set up a video which I wish to sell on my site, so your idea's sounds cool. If I use the flv converter, would I be able to host it on my basic yola account?, is Viddler a better alternative to youtube?

I would prefer to use my site for hosting, only because it would be as a business site and I would want to keep all information preferbly on one site, but thanks for this suggestion.

Thanks dude for all your help.

Hey Alan,

It depends on the size of the file after the conversion to flv format. I think Viddler is better than Youtube because Viddler is more of a video hosting site rather than Youtube which is more of a video sharing site.

Hi,

Thanks for your help, checked out Viddlers site but they seem kind expensive for hosting a vid for a business unless i'm looking in the wrong section if not, are there any free vid sites you can recommend besides youtube?

Yes Vimeo is great too! Also for Viddler when you click the sign up click one the "personal account" not partnership or the ones on the bottom of the page.

if it is ONLY 30 minutes, it might be a possibility to zip it into less than 15 MB... but that's a lot of zipping, my guess is that it'll be more than 15 MB when you zip (compress) the dvd. It's probably about what right now - 220 MB?

I have an idea... what if customers purchased the dvd then you emailed it to them? I'm sure there's email services that will let you email something as big as a dvd....

another option is to get the yola pro which allows 100 MB per file upload and then zip it to less than 100 MB. However, your customers would need to agree to the terms and conditions (which will include knowing the extent of the download - having to extract files). If a user downloads the file and is unable to extract or use the file - if they paid... you'll be liable unless you have them agree to the terms and conditions indicating that after downloading the zip file they after extract the file to use it properly.

Hi Donald,

Those are some good idea's, it's quite difficult for me as i'm not a computer wiz to, I decided to to offer the dvd to customers once they purchased to view a Viddler/Vimeo of the DVD on my site. This way it is easy for them to access, but it is not as easy as I first thought. So once I convert the DVD to flv I may need to upgrade to a a pro account as the file could be too large. so will check out some email services this could be the answer.

Cheers
