my site is published using the yolasite subdomain and then masked with my own domain. Is it possible to use an address direct people to specific pages, and even better parts of my website? www.vickiwheeler.co.uk

Hello Vicki

I'm not sure if I understood what you want to do. Can you please explain this again and maybe give an example?

Hi Vicki,

To direct people to a specific page then you can link to:

http://vickiwheeler.co.uk/page-name

To link to a specific place on a specific page then you would need to link to an anchor placed at the place you wish to link to.
Then the link code you direct people to would be:
http://vickiwheeler.co.uk/page-name#anchor-name

#anchor-name would be previously placed at the spot you wish to bring the readers to.
page-name would be the name of a page in your website.

Anchors can be confusing at first and the differenece between setting anchors and locating anchors takes a while to take in.

To set an anchor as I said you locate that position on your page and with the use of an HTML widget you add this code: <a name="anchor-name"></a>
Every anchor must have a different name because it's the anchor name that the process searches for.

Thank you, I'll give this a go. I'm assuming it will work with my masked subdomain?

That I don't know Vicki. Masked domains are not common with this community but becoming more obvious very recently. I have to catch up on this stuff.

Can you tell me how you masked your domain specifically?

I'm not sure if mask was the correct term. I redirected my domain via their website to link to my yola subdomain.

Just about to give this a go, so I'll let you know!

Vicki,

I just realised that I gave you the essential codes but didn't include the useability aspect.

So the page link can be made visible by using some HTML:
<a href="http://vickiwheeler.co.uk/page-name">{a link phrase, word or sentence or an image to display}</a>

This can also be most easily done by utilising the Text widget from the widget collection. You can type in your link phrase as you wish, then select the link tool within the text widget and it self prompts for a page or other files that can be similarly linked. This process itself places the relevant code into the page and you don't even have to be aware of the code.

The link to an anchor uses similar HTML but using the HTML widget:
<a href="http://vickiwheeler.co.uk/page-name#anchor-name">{your link phrase typed here}</a>

Anchor links don't have the advantage of a pre-set tool within the sitebuilder so you need to type in the code within the widget at this point in time, something I think that will evolve as the need increases.

Thank you for your reply, Gop.

Vicki, your are good to go with Gop's advice.

Adding to the URLs he has given you: All Yola pages have the extension .php, so don't forget to add this as follows:
<a href="http://vickiwheeler.co.uk/pagename.php">Link text</a>
and
<a href="http://vickiwheeler.co.uk/pagename.php#anchorname">Link text</a>

Right I've given this a go.

I can get as far and landing on the right page, with or without '.php' which wasn't possible before, so the masking isn't affecting that part :-), so by typing vickiwheeler.co.uk/bands takes me to the Artists & Bands page however typing vickiwheeler.co.uk/bands#sedge still only takes me to the top of the page.

When I use my subdomain it works though so 50% there. The masking must be affecting the anchor part, any suggestions to get around this as vickiwheeler.yolasite.co.uk/bands#sedge is quite a bit!

Can you run a check on your anchor from within a test page of your site. I think (but don't know) that it's likely to be something to do with the anchor setting itself.

When I look at your source code I can't see any anchor being set associated with sedge. Can you let me know where and I can check.

When I type www.vickiwheeler.yolasite.co.uk/bands... it definitely works. The anchor is on the header at the top of the Sedge section..

Vicki you mentioned that the anchor was in the header of a page and that when accessed it goes to the top of the page. Isn't that exactly where it would logically go to?

Hello, no there are anchors at several points on my page which work fine when using the domain .yolasite, they don't work though when I used my framed redirect vickiwheeler.co.uk

Try this and you'll see what I mean: www.vickiwheeler.yolasite.com/bands#s...

then try www.vickiwheeler.co.uk/bands#sedge

different results....

OK.

I suspect that the frame is causing the loss of integrity and I can't see a solution for this.

Certainly not pushing the Yola cart but if you had a Yola hosting plan then this wouldn't be the same issue. The anchors do work between primary and secondary domains.
