Affordable/Free Advertising

Like most here during this tough economic time I have had to rethink many things concerning the promotion of my site. I used to use some of the comparison shopping sites but they have gone crazy in my opinion with their policies and rates. This forced me to look elsewhere and honestly I have had a better return for myself for a fraction of the cost. I thought I would share some of the sites that have worked well for me.

Social Sites

Facebook . . .Can create ads target them and set your budget (Go to their site and look for advertising) You can also make a page that is a business profile.

Myspace . . .Same as above ...1 month text ads $15.00 1 month banner ad $25.00

Blogs . . .A large number of blog sites use this service to handle their advertising. They have a list of blogs with hit stats and rates ranging from $10.00 to $25.00 a month ads to the $18,000.00 a month ads.

Green directories for those with greens sites. ....I just started with them but I have a banner ad in rotation in a major category for $12.00 a month ...This one is great....I have listed many of my products right on their site with links back to me all for free. ..Another one that allows you to list product on their pages with a link back to your site.

And last but not least.

Google Base is great also but it does take time before your products migrate to their shopping pages.

Craigslist....Great but be very wary of scams...I get a response from scam artists every time I place an ad...But I have also had some sales. Do sign up for their free small biz ads. Be aware that you have to pick a city for your ads and stick with it...You can’t place ads for more than one city and it needs to be the closet large city near you....They will and can blacklist you.

Anyway just thought I would share....I have had more sales since I went this way and stopped using the big comparison sites, for very little or no money.

Hi John,

Thanks for sharing your experiences. You have some good ideas.

It is true you can get a better return for you money shopping around (excuse the pun) rather than using the big sites. Targeting your campaigns better can also bring better returns for your money.
