Animated Favicon Not Working!

I wanted to add a favicon on my new site, I searched for free ones or generators, and I found that animated ones existed, I then made one here:
http://www.favicon.cc/
And I loved it, so I tried adding it to yola, where I usually add favicons, and the animation worked perfectly in the display box next to 'This is your current favicon' but then when I returned and published, I went onto the site to see how it worked, after a while, it showed up, but only the first picture of the animation!
Please help, if its related to my search engine, I use google chrome.
If it worked in the display box, why not normally?
I use Yola Free and am not prepared to upgrade yet.

Hi Sajid-M,

Firstly I want to say that I'am not a fan of animated favicons at all. They annoy me.

But some people like them - each to their own :)

What is your website URL?

I can only presume that it's something to do with the file extension. It probably needs a .gif extension but has a .ico extension. (something like that, just a guess)

Leave your URL and I will investigate for you.

Thanks for the reply, the URL is here:
http://yourfirstwebsite.yolasite.com/
It's still in it's initial building stage so it won't be that good.
The file is in .ico format, I'll try changing it to .gif and then uploading it.

I have changed the favicon to a .gif picture, and the same problem occurs.
Oh, and also, the animated favicon isn't like the usual ones, I created several pictures on Paint, and then used http://www.lunapic.com/editor/ to make it an animation, this one is just the same shape but colours changing in 5 different frames.

Hi,

Only some browsers display animated favicons (such as Firefox), while others only display the first frame (such as Chrome and Safari).

The favicon works fine on your site, and animates in Firefox. So just make sure you're using Firefox to check for the animation and when designing your favicon keep in mind the first frame may only be displayed in certain browsers.

Also, a .gif won't work, you have to use .ico.

I hope that helps!

What do you mean by the image adder not accepting? The File Manager allows .gif and .ico uploads, and the image widget allows .gif images.

Looking at your current icon (.ico format), there appears to be no animation because there is no animation in the image itself. (I downloaded the image and looked at it. There's a bunch of sizes, but all of the same image.)

I now realize that the 'image adder' does accept .gif, I just entered an .ico picture but it said it can only add Jpeg and PNG and perhaps gif so I must have made a mistake. By image adder, I mean the button next to Add image, above Reply, in this forum, it says Add Image so I called it Image Adder.

I know that on yola, file manager and image widget allows animations, but I was talking about here in this forum.

Oh. (I thought you were talking about the sitebuilder.)

You could upload the file to the site and then give us a link after publishing.

Hi Sajid-M

I can confirm that your favicon is showing up in Firefox, but it is not animated. Screen shot below:

It's no longer animating for me. (I only glanced, so maybe it wasn't animating in the first place.)

To verify, was the earlier animation different objects coming?

The earlier animation was different objects, in fact it was letters, a Ur, then a 1st, then W and lastly a face (:D). The later animation, the one shown in the picture above, was basically the same shape but different colours.

Hello Sajid-M,

I am not able to see the animated version either. You may want to try using a different type of animated .ico generator to see if that makes any difference? I know that I have seen animated favicons before.

Perhaps this might work: http://www.favicongenerator.org/.

I have not tried them but it may be worth your while to check them out.

I tried the link you provided Sanja, but it doesn't allow me to create favicons there on the browser, and requires picture uploads. I will try again on www.favicon.cc and I'll say when it's uploaded.
Thanks for all the help once more.

Also, reporting another little problem, I think, after you change your favicon, it should say 'You're changes aren't published. (yellow)' not 'You're site is live. (green)'.

I have created a new favicon and uploaded it onto the site. It's adapted to how some browsers show animated favicons and some don't, as it's first frame is a 5 or an S but in the animated, it's only for 0.05s, allowing all the other frames, blank, Y, blank, F, blank, W -loop-.
Tell me if it works, remember, on browsers where animated favicons don't work its a 5/S and on others its blinking letters, but it's the blinking letters I'm looking for as I have already confirmed the 5/S.
Thanks

Also, this isn't related to favicons, but animated pics, check on my site if the 'You Wanna Make A Website Then?' .gif picture, works, all the words come on after each other flying in from different sides, it's supposed to loop, but on my browser it just comes up with reeaallly fast flying in words and no loop.

Thanks again.

How do you mean the setting of the .gif?

There are settings for animated gifs that say how fast to change the images, how many times to loop, etc.

I'm sure there's some programs or websites that allow you to change those settings. Just search for an animated gif creator and I'm sure one of those will allow you to change those settings.
