Any End To "Error In Publishing Your Site?"

So I know that the "error in publishing your site" has been an issue with a lot of people, but is there going to be a fix anytime soon? 9 times out of 10, this happens every single time I update, and its really starting to get annoying. Is there any end in sight?

Hello Stephanie,

I am sorry to hear that you are having this problem. Would you mind sharing what the exact error is with publishing? Do you receive an actual error message? Does the publishing screen continue loading? Please provide as much information as you can in regards to the error. I will be happy to look into this with you.

It happens to me sometimes too. It says "There was an error publishing your site" on the published website. But it hasn't happened to me for a while now.

As Nathan said, It says "There was an error publishing your site. Please unpublish and republish your site" it shows up after I hit publish when I update. Then I have to go through all of the options again like pointing my domain, etc. Most of the time, the error backgroud picture (Yolas picture) doesn't load and has an Xed image.

Thats exactly what happens to me too. The Yola image usually doesn't appear. Probably an image source URL error.

Hi Stephanie,

I have tested publishing your site and was unfortunately unable to replicate the error. Could you let us know which browser you are using, and whether you have tried editing and publishing your site in another browser? Thanks!

IE is not good. It displays pages wrong, has no CSS-3 and is so limited on features. Do you have IE 9 or IE 8? You should use Mozilla Firefox, Apple Safari or Google Chrome.

Hi Stephanie,
I can understand that this is frustrating and we would like to help. I have also tried replicating this using Internet Explorer 7 (I published your site) and did not receive the error message. Can you tell us what version of IE you are using so that we can try to do this in the same exact browser you are using. Thanks, we appreciate you working with us on this.

Stephanie, I'm aware that Yola does seem to give Publishing site errors quite frequently. I get them alot to. I mentioned this at this topic and it seems that this problem hasn't been fixed yet. Usually, republishing the site a few times works, and I hope that Yola will find a fix to this soon.

I am using Internet Explorer 8. This error has happened to me twice already today. And I actually recieved a new error today. It said Yola had updated so the Blog window needed to close to update. It closed it automatically, after I had finished writing a new blog entry and It didn't save or post so I had to write the whole thing over again.

I highly recommend that all Yola website publishers use ONLY Firefox when editing their sites. I do, and rarely encounter any problems. (I used to have many more problems when editing via IE). While I do occasionally encounter the "trouble publishing your website" error, it is rare and easily resolves itself simply by clicking the green Publish tab again.

I also recommend clicking the blue Save tab BEFORE attempting to publish, in order to avoid the risk of losing any changes if an error occurs..

One other thought. If you have been logged into your Yola for more than an hour without activity, it is also a good idea to refresh (reload) the page before you begin updating. If it has been longer, I often close out that window or tab, and open a brand new one and log in again before attempting to edit and publish.

ALWAYS save your work to notepad or word before publishing. Its just smart practice to avoid losing written work, even when just posting on a message board.

I use Google Chrome. It works like a charm. A few bugs here and there but other than that - awesome.

I use Google Chrome, Firefox, and Safari. I use Google Chrome mainly though. I have Firefox and Safari so I can see what my websites look in different browsers. On my iPhone I use Safari, of course.

Also what do you mean save your work to notepad? Yola has a save feature to save all your work, so why and how would you save it to notepad? You can't add images and stuff in notepad.

Thanks,
Nathan

Nathan,

I am talking about saving text only. In the problem the poster was describing, one which I have experienced on some occasions, the "save' function on Yola fails and all work is lost. Thus the need for a back up. Replacing images is easy if they are already saved to your computer, but if all your written work is done in edit mode, and then disappears that is no fun.

@condo58 Ah, I see. Does it pop up a box saying "Your session has expired. Please login to renew"? If so, click OK, and then it will have anther message saying "confirm navigation". Click on "stay on this page". Then just open a new tab and go to http://my.yola.com in that new tab and make sure you are logged in and that it'll let you into My Yola, and if it doesn't, login and then go back to the site builder tab and save the page and it shouldn't pop up that box when you go to click 'save' after you followed the steps above.

The problem that the poster was explaining is that when you publish your website, and when you go to the website, it will say "There was an error publishing your site." and then it will say under that "Please un-publish your site and then re-publish it." But you don't have to un-publish and re-publish. You can just edit something on the page and then save the page and then click the publish button and it will then go back to your site and refresh the page and it should work.

But this problem doesn't actually cause you to loose any work, since it is saved, unless the 'save' button does fail (I explained instructions to fix that above), it is just really annoying.

But a publishing problem wont cause you to loose any work, only a saving problem would.

You know whats even worst? When I am typing out a whole brand-new HTML/CSS/JavaScript code and then it is like very long, and somehow it doesn't get saved. That really makes me mad when that happens. But I learned my lesson and now every time I end a part of code I save it, just in case.

Sincerely,
Nathan

I understand what you are saying.

However, I was referring to Stephanie A Wright's post, which is talking about a new, separate issue that has been popping up recently. It happens when sitebuilder needs to update, and work IS lost.

Sometimes it even gets stuck in a loop where you click to let it update, you lose your work, re-edit, try to save OR publish, but then the sitebuilder update pops up again, you click it...work is lost.

I have found that the only way to get out of that loop is to close the tab/window, and open Yola in another tab/window and begin anew.

Hello guys, this has been difficult for us to replicate. Is it possible for you to get a video of this? Here's a online tool that is free to use to capture what is going on: http://screenjelly.com. Thanks everyone for your patience as we try to work on understanding this issue.

I have Camtasia Studio and I could create the screen recording, but I can't replicate it right now. It actually hasn't happened to me for a while. This problem happens randomly. Heres a screen shot from a topic by Kevin:

It doesn't show the Yola logo, it shows the symbol that means the image isn't available, just like Stephanie said.

And here is another topic (posted by Kevin) about this problem, it says it is Acknowledged: Getting a lot of "There was an error publishing your site" messages recently

Okay, so I have narrowed it down. When I write a blog entry and hit done, it refreshes and goes back to the index page. I wait a couple of seconds and open my website in another window. It doesn't update itself so I have to hit 'Publish my website' even though it says that my changes are public and I have a green light. Thats when I get the error message that says 'there was an error in publishing your website' Which looks exactly like the SS that Nathan provided. So then I have to go in and republish it again.

When that message is displayed, just go in and edit something in your site, like a text widget. Delete one character out and then put it back in so the save becomes active and click save and then click publish. Then after about 3 minutes go to your site and refresh and the error message should be gone.

But this is very annoying. It used to do it all the time but it's getting much better. But still it shows this for some users, like you.

Hi Stephanie,
I'd like to take a closer look at this and do some testing from my side. Can you email support@yola.com and mark it Attn: Emmy and I'll pick it up. I'm going to speak with an engineer and would like to continue with you from there. I understand this is frustrating and do appreciate you working with us on it.

So I tried switching to Google Chrome, and just found more errors with switching. I am trying to add a new blog post to my website, and when I hit 'Enter' to go to the next line, it adds it 4 lines down. I am still not happy with Yola, I again tried to write a new blog entry this morning and had the same error occur where I lost everything.

I just tried Firefox and it did the EXACT same thing where it crahses! I have just lost about 3 hours worth of time trying to re-type the same blog and losing it in the middle of writing. If I paid for a full years worth of service, can I get a refund on the time I didn't use. I am pretty much done with Yola..All of these issues aren't being fixed.

Hi Stephanie,
I am sorry to hear how upset you are and completely understand your frustration. Would you mind sharing the URL of your blog page? When looking at your site, I am not seeing your blog page. Also, since we have been having troubles with replicating this, please follow the link Sanja has provided above to capture a screenjelly of this error. We will be able to pass this onto our engineers who will then be able to look into this further.
