Hi Everyone,

I've beed kinda bored lately and wondered
If anyone needs a code that Me and my team can make for you?
It would give me so much joy to make someone a code!
So go ahead and request something here and we will see what we can do! :)

NOTE: We can only use HTML, CSS, and Javascript(JQuery, Ajax) because yola does not allow PHP

Hi Shawn,

I'm trying to get a simple picture gallery site up to show my creations.

I know there is the option at Yola and it does a good job, it's just a bit! you know!

Can you produce anything?

Hi again..

I forgot to say, the site is, thebackofthegarage.co.uk.

It is up and running, but very rough and only in production stage!!

The Back of The Garage? it's where I live.... I'm disabled and the garage was modified for me to live in... believe me, it's better than it sounds...

Many thanks again

Sounds pretty cool Richard! I'm sure Shawn and his team would love to help you. In the meantime we're interested to know what features are lacking for you from the Picture Gallery Widget. We'd be happy to pass your feedback on to our product and engineering teams.

Hi Laura, As I said before, the Picture Gallery Widget is ok, but lacking a bit..

It's not really the content so much, I suppose i've been spoilt with all the whistles and things of flash and the like.... and working on mac, I like how you can view and see images...

It is more that I don't seem to be able to do much.... I like the upload and the preview, but options are lacking..

Maybe the old adage, 'Less is more!?' applies!?

In total support of Yola I must say, I have never built a website before and I do think it is amazing what you can do here and it is quiet intuitive! I suppose the closest thing i've got to this 'object based' type system is Windows Publisher. As a teacher this was my main program for producing all my classroom needs. Familiarity is another thing I need to take into account, I've only just started to get my head around Yola...

My main frustration is the inability to move objects around as you can in Publisher.. within Yola you seem very restricted to where the objects go and what you can do with them.. I suppose, ideally, i would like a blank page and then be able to select objects, via widgets, move them to where I would like them, resize and add the various graphical additions, which would be standard for all objects.... the various object options would then be available via a simple double click type thing... I hope this is making sense!?

So all in all, I think Yola is doing a fantastic job and maybe my ideas are just a bit out of reach at the moment.

I think I may be going on a bit too much, so I'll leave you alone and get back to a bit more playing with my site!

Many thanks again!

Richard

Hi again Laura,
Well I've just download and had a go with Visual Light Box. My first impression was it was easy and intuitive to use and had a far greater range of options than Picture Gallery Widget however, there is the extra process you have to go through to get it active on site!? The Guide, produced by Andi, to do this was excellent, but was an extra step or two...

I don't think there is a great difference between the outcome between Visual Light Box, or Picture Gallery Widget...... but the interface was better.

Hi Richard,

I understand that the process can seem complicated to someone who has no edited HTML code before. I would be more than happy to edit all of the code for you, if you sent the .html, .css and .js files to me via e-mail, I can create the code for you, and give you some instructions to add to the site.

As Yola do not like us giving out our contact details here, what you can do is visit: www.mangopearmedia.com/contact-me.php and send me a lovely message, just state somewhere that you are Richard from the Yola Forum.

I will then give you a reply and detail which files I would like you to send me, I shall edit them and send them back to you with instructions on how to apply to your Yolasite.

Kind Regards,

Andi

Hi Richard,

Websites are setup to be around 100% in width and that's what yola is.

When you create your own HTML website without a sitebuilder then the website is usaully setup for 100%. You can change that but it might just not look good, and I agree with placing stuff anywhere you want but...the yola templates are just 100%. Mabye I can work with the site CSS and find a way to change that ;)

Hello Richard,,

I would suggest that you use a Visual Lightbox gallery because it provides full customisation - custom titles, and custom designs.

Their website is here... http://visuallightbox.com/
An example of it in use is here... http://www.shamrockandrambler.co.uk/g...

And I have created a guide on how to create a Visual Lightbox gallery. It should be easy to follow. Here is the guide... http://www.mangopearmedia.com/resourc...

If you need any more help, please do not hesitate to reply,

Kind Regards,
Andi

Richard could also use FancyBox: www.FancyBox.net

That's a nice lightbox too. My favorite animation for it is "elastic" (First row, middle image)

I've never used VisualLightbox. Is it easy to use and set up, Andi?

Morning and Wow!

I wasn't expecting such a response!?

I will be having a look and trying out both Andi and Nathan's suggestions, but I would also be only too happy for you and the team to setup the gallery!

I'm not sure what you get out of this, other than experience, but it is so unusual in this day and age..... I can't thank you enough!

I'm sure you could put a link on my site to your group site!? If you want to that is?

I've moved a selection of my images, covering all sorts, but mainly digital now as with traditional painting, I and everyone else, including Finn the dog, get covered in paint! :\ So here is a link to my mobile me gallery... never done this before, so I hope it works!?

http://gallery.me.com/dickymac

I would like to know more about the group too?

Many thanks all of you for your time!

No No Richard,

Were not going to make you put a link up because we code for fun!

And its unusual in this day and age because not lots of developers do stuff for free
You see, to me web designing is more of an hobby not a job, and it makes me happy.

Also our group will soon be opening a completely affordable webdesign company.

Called WeeBuild:
You can check out WeeBuild and find the newsletter sign up. When our site is finished we will give an Email that WeeBuild is Finally open.

At the moment we are still talking to another company about our costumers hosting.

Do you want all those images on MobileMe in a Gallery?

Suggestion:

Instead of using a gallery I suggest using a nice looking SLIDER for your homepage. To me a slider just completes a homepage and make it look unique.

But if you want a gallery on a separate page a gallery is your way to go.

Could you please Tell us if you wanna use Fancy Box or Visuallightbox or any other lightbox you have in mind

Hi Shawn,

Thanks for the prompt reply!

I am interested in your new venture, WeeBuild, but link wouldn't open?

Good to hear you're doing something that you enjoy..... don't let go of that....

Maybe I could be your first customer? Let me know the details....

As for the images on my MobileMe Gallery, they were just really something to work with...

Now I'm finally housebound, I've decided that I would like to paint more and try and sell limited edition prints online..... need to make living somehow! :)

My idea is a simple looking site, that gives all the usual stuff, but adds a bit of zzzzzzing and is therefore memorable... in this day of thousands of websites coming online daily this seems a hard task!?

What I need is young ideas people who have the skills too and I think I may have just found what I'm looking for....

So if you and the team want something to work on before the big launch let me know the details.... cost etc? :)

Just tried WeeBuild.biz again and still no luck, strange but Yola showing same problem..... is it same server?

I look forward to hearing from you... all the best

Hi Richard,

The reason why it wouldn't open is because Yola sites were just down due to a DoS attack. You can see updates here: Yola experiencing a DoS attack

Also, Wee Build hasn't opened quite yet. You can put in your email though on www.weebuild.biz and you will get an email notification when we open.

You can email support@weebuild.biz for information about Wee Build.

Kind regards,
Nathan

Hi Richard,

Sitebuilder is the UK sister of WeeBuild (we can do worldwide web design but with English designers). If you would like me to design your site for you then I can. Just visit: www.sitebuilder.mangopearmedia.com and select which package you would like.

Sitebuilder works with the Yola Silver package so, you can update your site to suit your needs. Sitebuilder can also be used on Yola Free but, some of the features are not available.

I'm trying to get a drop-down menu on my website for my vet clinic. The current web address is crestviewah.yolasite.com until we want it to go live. Then we will point it to our real doman address, www.crestviewah.com.

Any help would be amazing!

The only portion that I would like as a drop-down menu would be the SERVICES tab. It has sub-menus right now, which I am trying to get as drop-down menus.

Those both look wonderful! I think for our website, the first of the two would fit better (rounded edges, color scheme, etc).

How can I get this on my website?

I am very excited, and thrilled that you are so willing to help me out!

Hi Jeremiah,

No problem, and I can definitely assist you in implementing it :)

To implement it, all you'll have to do is paste some code into an HTML widget on your pages.

I'll make the example page really quick and the HTML code for you to put on your site will be on the example page.

Kind regards,
Nathan

Here's my example: Example

I just decided to post the code here once you answer some questions below.

Could you answer these questions:

1. What color do you want the menu to be?
2. What color do you want the text to be?
3. What color do you want the menu to be on mouseover?
4. What are all of the links you want in the menu?
5. Which links you want to have a drop down menu?

Kind regards,
Nathan

Questions 1-3:

I know this sounds weird, but I think the colors you used in the example are perfect. Our theme is blue, so I think that blue works really well on the mouseover (maybe a lighter blue, though? Like baby blue? Really though, I think it looks great!

Questions 4 and 5:

I am using a yolasite.com domain until I'm ready to go live and transfer the DNS numbers to this site. I will list the current links, but will it be relatively simple to change the links once I make the switch to the new domain address?

@Jermiah: Thanks for letting me know, Jeremiah! This is exactly what I needed. And, don't worry, when you change your domain you wont have to change anything in the navigation because the navigation doesn't have to have your domain in it, it just has to have the page names. :)

I'm adding in the links right now, and when I'm done I'll let you know.

@Shawn: I can just make them not as wide and they should fit.

<li><a href="URL HERE">NAME HERE</a></li>
+

<ul>
<li><a href="URL HERE">SUB-NAME HERE</a></li>
