Is there a way to upload an artistic conception versus an actual photograph for use as a banner ? File Manager apparently thinks it is a document even if it has a jpg extension ?

Hi Alan

I'm not sure what you mean by "artistic conception". Would you mind posting the url to your artistic conception so that we can see what you're trying to do?

You should be able to use .jpg, .png, .gif as your banner. What do you mean by the file manager thinks it is a "document"?

How are you trying to insert your image?

Hopefully we can work through this together.

I apologize for the confusion . By " artistic conception " i meant a simulated photo i downloaded as a jpg from http://science.nationalgeographic.com...

File Manger uploads the item but does not actually show it and i get a message saying " only images can be uploaded " or something to that effect . If it is an OS issue ( I use Linux ) or a browser problem ( Firefox ) i don't know why i would not have the same issues in downloading to my computer or in uploading to my Word Press blog ( which i don't ) :-)

I am specifically referring to changing a page banner . If it's an actual photograph i don't deem to have the the problem .

Hi Alan

Sorry that you are having this issue...

I just went to the site you posted and looked at the properties of all the images and they are in JPG format which is in fact an acceptable image to upload to your file manager and use as your banner. Tre bizarre...

As it is an image from NASA it is OK to save (which I did) and upload to our sites (which I did) and make as our banner (which I did) Without issue I was able to do so and make a pretty cool space banner.

Could you try to do the following once more:

1) Go to the URL you posted, right click the image and then click "Save as"
2) Select a location on your computer, name it something other than the current name (IE: solar system) and click "OK"
3) Open your site builder
4) Click "Change banner"
5) Click "Select" on the "Your computer" section
6) Locate and click on the newly named image and click "Open"
7) Edit the image to best fit the banner of your chosen style

As this is a JPG image I see no reason why you should have problems. Could you try signing out of your account, closing the Firefox browser and then re-signing in to your account to try once more.

Happy site building
Ed

Kinda missing the old days girl but time seems like it does not allow for all I want to do. Maybe I should visit a hypnotist and see if she/he could make me answer questions in my sleep. LOL what a thought

If you do find a way to add more hours to the day, or work in your sleep you'll need to come here and share the secret. I think we could all do with more time!

I see that you uploaded the image to my sites file manager and it may look fine to you but on my computer it simply looks like a page document as before . And as before file manager does not interpret it as an image .

I have no idea why some jpg's upload ok and others do not from the same site . It is probably a Linux - Firefox issue that i will have to sort through . Unlike Windows running Firefox where you would manually do add - ons and plug - ins that is not the case with Linux - Ubuntu .

Firefox is built in as my OS and Firefox sends a notification when there are newer plug-ins , etc that need to be installed . This is sometimes done in package format so you may install conflicting apps and that is probably what is happening . I will work with Linux folks on this issue .

On another issue is there any reason i can't change my website format to the blog format versus using blog within the website format ? On further consideration i think i probably made the wrong initial choice of format .. my bad . :-)
