Automatically create Links in Yola?

Is there a way for Yola to "recognize" a link in a text widget (like http://www.GailLovely.com) and automatically create it as a link like Office and other programs do or do I need to click on the link tool and make each url into a link?

By the way... it seems like some links are changing to the link color (blue) others are just underlined in blue...

Thanks in advance!

Hi Gail

If you simply type out the http://www.GailLovely.com - it will recognize this as a link. However, if you're wanting to create a text which has a link, then you'll have to use the link tool. For example .. Come see Gail's Site (Gail's site would be the text link).

Does that help to answer your question? If not, please let us know. =)

Actually - look at this page of my site:
http://lovelydots.yolasite.com/nets--...

You will see some links I activated by highlighting the text link of the link and using the link tool to make it an active link - some of these ended up blue, (active links), some ended up underlined in blue (active links), some other links were made automatically by Yola and are blue, and other links are not seen as links by Yola at all...

Thanks for helping.

Hi Gail,

When I view the source of the page (right-click > view source) - I see some funky code. Did you add it to your site? Or did you perhaps copy and paste the text from another source?

If you did, doing this can bring hidden formatting issues to the page and we recommend that you first paste the text into something like Notepad and then copy and paste it into your text widget.

Can you try doing that and then we'll be able to see whether the links are all formatted correctly.

Okay - so I copied the text (which was originally a combination of things from other sources - like an old powerpoint, and also typed in) - and pasted it into Notepad. Then I copied it and pasted it back into the page.

Now there are no links.

Please continue helping me - I have LOTS of pages like this to make today!

Hi Gail,

Are you looking for the steps on how to create text links? If so, here they are:

1. Drag and drop a text widget onto your page.
2. In the text widget type the words that you want people to click on (this is your link text).
3. Highlight the link text and then click on the link button (it's the 10th button from the left in the text editing tool bar, and looks like the link in a chain).
4. A link editor dialogue box will open up and you will be given 4 options. You can link to an email address, an external URL, a page on your own site or a file in your file manager.
5. Click on and edit the option appropriate for you.

You will then have a link on your page. To check that your link is working preview your page and then click on the link.

You can also check this out on a tutorial: http://www.synthasite.com/tutorials/c....

By the way, I still see the code on your site - did you click on "Update my Site"? It would be best to delete the existing text widgets, add new one's and paste the stripped text.

ARGH!

Okay - so to be clear - I am looking to find out how to have yola automatically create links when a text widget has a link in it (like http://www.GailLovely.com). I have copied the text into wordpad to remove all the "funky code" and then deleted the old text widget and then copied and pasted the text from the wordpad.... STILL, no links.

I understand and know how to make links, but am hoping Yola will AUTOMATICALLY format phrases like "http://www.GailLovely.com" as links and make them active...

Is this likely or even possible? I have lots of links to do on lots of pages!

Hi Gail,

I apologize if it hasn't been made clear - you'll need to follow those steps to add links to your page. There isn't a way that it's automatically created.

It's an interesting idea and I'll pass it onto our development team.

SO, are you saying every link someone puts on a yola site has to be put into the link tool? It can't even do what word or ppt does? I can't believe it!! (See earlier response from littleus - I think this is a MUST HAVE - most products which deal with text can recognize the http:// as a lead-in to a link.... why not Yola!?
This may just drive me away... I am an educator and a lot of what I do is sharing links with teachers...

My profound apologies Gail on giving you wrong information. I automatically assumed that if you typed in http://blah blah.com, it would come up as a hyperlink. I see that Marije has cleared up this misnomer I gave. It is a great idea though for future improvements.

I am having trouble believing Yola can't detect a link in a text box...

Hi Gail

You have expressed your feelings on this matter very eloquently. Thank you for doing this. However, the information Marije has shared with you is correct, and as unbelievable as you find it, you have understood her correctly. The Yola text editor does not automatically detect links and they do need to be created either with the link editor or HTML.

I think you are so frustrated because you find our text editor missing in basic functionality you have come to expect from other software. I can totally understand this. All I can offer at this point is to make your needs and feelings known on this point so that an improvement can be made. I am sure many of our customers would be grateful if we were to implement what you are looking for in regard to link creation.

Thank you for your definitive response.

I am disappointed in the lack of this feature and hope it will be added ASAP... in the meantime I will back off a bit on my promoting this as a tool for teachers, easy links are just too important... will I somehow be notified if this ever gets added to Yola?

Yes - definitely. We make announcements on our blog, in this forum and in our newsletter as soon as they are made. I regret that the absence of this feature makes you unable to recommend Yola to teachers and hope we will be able to address this need in future.
