I used Aviary to crop a picture, saved it, then tried to upload it, only a black box appeared. I am worried that it will overwrite what's there. Please help.

Hello John

Can you please let us know the picture file name and how you wanted to crop it? We will then be able to test it in your account. You can also make a copy of your picture file by saving it to another folder in your File Manager.

What I have done now is I deleted the picture widget and started again. I uploaded the same image from iPhoto - but this time already cropped in iPhoto. The issue is I am using the same image on another page and has the same reference IMG 0005 and worried what will happen there.
Soon I need to adjust my site adding more pictures/pages and I am worried that when I publish again it messes up what is already there.

This response was also sent by email on 19/5/12.

Hello John

You can't have a file with the same name in the same folder. So if you upload a picture named IMG0005 to your Yola File Manager and try to upload a file with the same name later, File Manager will ask you if you want to overwrite. This will not happen automatically, always with you agreeing first.

However, you can have a file with the same name in your File Manager if these two files are put into different folders.

Please let us know if this doesn't answer your question.

Hi John,

I would like to ensure that you are assisted with this problem, but also don't want to cause confusion by having a forum and email thread going on simultaneously. Could you let us know whether you'd prefer to proceed on the forum, or via email?

Thanks!

Stefan,
Thanks, I am aware that I need to save and overwrite, this I did, then when loading I end up with a black box instead of one containing the image.

Hi John

Ok, so what I understand from what you describe is this: You upload a picture to your Yola File Manager, then edit it with Aviary, and when you apply the changes and you are taken back to your File Manager, you see a black box instead of the picture edited, is that correct? If so, your picture must have been overwritten. Now we will need to find out if it was saved as a black picture or as the picture edited.

As I wasn't able to find any picture appearing as a black box in your File Manager, I tested this myself and uploaded a test picture of a tree to your Yola File Manager to which I added the word "Hello", using Aviary. When I applied the change, it was saved to the Yola File Manager and the old picture was overwritten. This is working as designed. However, I didn't get a black box, but the edited picture, so I couldn't replicate the error you reported.

As I cannot replicate, can you please edit a picture with Aviary on your end again, save it to your File Manager, and see if you still get a black box?

If so, please leave it there as it is, tell me the file name, so that we will be able to locate the picture in your File Manager and investigate. Thanks.

The black box appears when I want to load it on to the site builder. I did load one and I had a black box then on the site builder. Had to delete the widget and then reload from scratch.

I have created a test page called "test" on your Yola website (don't worry, it's not in your navigation, and you can delete it at any time).

I went the most frequent way of adding and editing a picture, so I dragged and dropped a Picture Widget on the page, uploaded a picture and edited it using Aviary. I added the word "Hi" to it. When I saved the changes, I didn't get a black box instead of the picture. What I did get was the original picture, i.e. I wasn't able to see the edited version yet. To correct this, you can click on the round arrow in the middle of the top blue Sitebuilder menu in order to refresh the Sitebuilder view. After I had done that, I was able to see the edited picture on the page. You will see the edited picture immediately in Preview (without refreshing).

So I still can't replicate the error you reported.

Can you please go to that test page and do the same thing as I did? And if you get a black box, can you please leave it as it is and let me know? I will be happy to check it for you then. You can also test it on a different page if it only happens there. Just let me know on which page it is. Don't forget to tell me if you didn't use the Picture Widget, but e.g. the Picture Gallery Widget.
