I'm thinking of using an image as a background for my site. I would like just one image to cover the entire page with no tiling and have tried the image and it looks fine, the problem I have is the page now loads really slow which I realize is caused by the image size which is 2048x1360 and 1.9mb. If I use a smaller resolution image does this mean that there will be a white strip around the edges for people with large monitors?
I have looked at this site and seen that the image they are using is 1500x1000 and 156kb, how have they done this and covered the whole page (on my monitor anyway)

try reducing the resolution to 72dpi. the image can still be full page, but the file will be smaller
