If I create webspace on say for example (what I am suggesting creating) can everyopne on the internet see this or just members of synthasite?

I am trying to decide whether to use the syntasite free webspace or use webspace provided by my ISP. My ISP does not provide PHP hosting so I guess this means I cannot use a synthasite website on my ISP space as when I look all synthasite websites use PHP - Am I correct?

I have my own domain name which redirects to another website I have - I guess if I set up a sythasite website I will be able to redirect to that instead of the site it does now (an old out of date site). Am I correct in this assumption?

Can I upload my own HTML as part of a synhasite site so I can use parts of a website I currently have - can I upload this by ftp or does it have to be part of the site I create using the synthasite web creation site?

Hi Steve,

Yes, everyone on the Internet will be able to see your SynthaSite website (i.e. not just members of SynthaSite).

You are correct when you say that in order to host your website yourself, you must be using a php 5.2.x enabled web server. If you’re trying to make a decision about which publishing route to take, I’d like to direct you to this other post in our community forum, for very detailed information.
Publishing Options

If you elect to host your site elsewhere, we can only support you with the process of creating your site, and downloading it. Thereafter all support relating to the hosting of your site will become the sole responsibility of your service provider – so my suggestion would be to publish as a subdomain of our domain (as you’re suggesting above: "").

Of course, you can also use your own domain name, and host with us – you are also correct in that assumption. We have a very good tutorial on the subject.
Using your own domain name

And finally, yes – you can insert HTML code (we’ve given you the ability to do this by dragging & dropping an HTML widget onto your website pages), so you can use “parts” of a website you’ve already created, create new customized HTML, or embed HTML code that you've found elsewhere.

Hope that gives you all the information you need to get started!

Hi Steve

All very good questions. Just to add to what Adrienne has said:

I really recommend hosting your site with us and publishing to your own domain as the easiest option. If you host your site with us future updates are accomplished with just one click, and we can give you all the support you need. If you host elsewhere you have to re-download your site and upload it each time you want to do an update.

You can add custom HTML with the HTML editor as Adrienne says. However, you work within the framework of a template selected from our template library. You cannot upload HTML files and we do not have ftp. For a web page to work with SynthaSite it needs to have been created with our site builder. So if by using parts of your current site, you meant uploading whole pages, then unfortunately this is not possible.

I am glad you are asking these questions up front so that you can make an informed decision about what to do with your site.

Please get back to us if there is anything more you need to know.
