You can not add such a file to your site root folder with Yola.

Its kind of a useless technology, usefull to block servers etc. but most internet users IP's change every few days. You could look into a work around for blocking MAC address's but ive never heard of anyone who has done this.

Hello Rockguitarist,

Unfortunately it is not possible to edit the .htaccess file to block ip addresses. I'm sorry I don't have better news for you on this.

Will we ever be able to edit the .HTACCESS file on Yola? It would be so nice if we could! I really want to make a custom error page and I want to be able to block IPs.

Hi Nathan, as we discussed in the other thread, this is not currently planned but we will pass your request to customize a 404 error page on to our developers.

if there's already a ".htaccess" file on yola, how come you can make a new file and call it ".htaccess" and then upload it to yola?

Hello, it is because you don't have access to the root directory of your site. The htaccess file has to go in the root directory and not sub directories like /resources/.htaccess it has to be in domain.com/.htaccess

I hope this helps

Hi nofar,

There isn't a way with Yola to do this.

Most ip addresses are dynamic and change frequently so even if you do block an ip the viewer can come back to your site at the next change. This could be hours or days.

Most sites with information that they want to restrict will use memberships to do this. Yola doesn't have a membership facility for their sites but you can use something like authpro.com to enable this for your site. There are a limited number of subscribers per site that is free and if you want to increase this number it can be done with a paid subscription.
