Blog Tags widget not working correctly

Yola's Blog Tags widget appears to be faulty on my website - www.sallysetsforth.com.

I was using a tag cloud, and due to my recent advent calendar posts, the tag "advent" was definitely the biggest. Now "melbourne" is the biggest, and "advent" doesn't even show up. Other tags are also missing, making the tag list very incomplete (it only shows 21 tags). I've changed to the inline format temporarily for appearance's sake, but the tags function is pretty useless if they're not all showing up.

I even tried deleting the widget and re-adding it - had the same problem. Also, when I played with some of the options, most don't appear to work for me. Whether I asked it to show the top 5 tags or top 50 tags, it still continued to only show the 21 random tags that had previously been displayed.

Can someone look into this for me please? I'm using Firefox 3.5.2

Hi Sally,

We're experiencing a bug with tags on blogs and our engineers are looking into it. We apologize for the inconvenience and will post here as soon as it's fixed.

HI

If you need anoter example have a look at the blog page on my site www.rtb2walks.co.uk

I had a reasonable tag-cloud, now it works but looks awful as it is neatly sorted by size (eg frequency) it's now more of a list than a cloud.

Looks poor to be honest.

Hey everyone - just to keep you updated. We're still working on a fix for this problem and we expect it will be released in the next few days.

Apologies for the delay - this one ended up being more complicated that originally thought.

Hi:
I appreciate that you guys keep us up to date on this issue. And I am perfectly fine with waiting a little bit. Just one question: is it okay to keep blogging and using blog tags, or is a better I idea to hold off until we know that the bug has been fixed?

Thanks in advance.

Thank for the update, Emmy.

I don't know if it's just me, but my tags are still not working. It still says that "no post could be found".
The same is true for my "Categories", except irrespectively of on which category I click, I get a list of all my posts, instead of only those which are falling under the given category.

Thanks.

Thanks Emmy - that's okay, as long as I know that I'm doing my tagging correctly. I just got afraid that I might be doing something wrong on my side, since it appeared to be working for Pablo.

Thanks.

HI sorry to say the Tag Cloud is still a frequency sorted list, and is not a cloud anymore, all the tags may be there but as a cloud its just wrong.

Done that Emmy, still a sorted list not a cloud. Do you understand my issue as I may not be making my self very clear. The cloud used to have randomly positioned sizes not all neatly sorted into a list. (Cashe cleared, IE8, FF3.5.6 Vista Premiun 32 bit)

Thanks for the updates Marije and Emmy. I'm happy to say that all of my tags are now showing up again.

Unfortunately, like Rob's site, they are not showing up as a proper tag cloud - the tags are sorted in order of highest use. I've tried deleting and re-adding the widget, and I've republished the site.

Hi Emmy.

I'm dropping the Tag-Cloud widget until you get it fixed, can you let me know when you think it's fixed and looks as a Tag-Cloud should once more.

Cheers.

Any news on this issue?

I see that Yola has marked the problem solved, but my tags are still not showing up as a proper tag cloud.

I know it's the holidays, but I just want to make sure this doesn't fall off the radar.

Hi Sally.
(Happy New Year) I dropped my tag cloud because of this, and I'm about to drop my blog page as the broken links it generates are causing me indexing issues. I do not think fixing this is a high priority unfortunately.

All the best.

The tag cloud is still not working correctly. It's been almost a month since anyone from Yola has commented on the issue.

Update please??

Since this problem was erroneously marked as solved, I wonder if I should post it as a new problem...

Hi Guys

I just wanted to circle back on this thread and set realistic expectations. The issues you reported have been logged and we are now able to provide you with the following feedback:

Our blogging platform is currently a low priority for us. While we hope to fix these bugs some time in the future, we do not have plans to do so in the short to medium term.

I am sorry I don't have better news for you on this one, but I thought the best policy was to tell you honestly what you can expect.

If the problem with the blog tag cloud significantly impairs your blogging experience, you might want to consider making use of an alternative blogging service.

My apologies for taking so long, only to come back with this, but I have passed this information on as soon as I received it.

That's disappointing news. I would have thought the continuing popularity and utility of blogs as a way of interacting with a website's readers (and customers) would have made it a higher priority. Searchability using tag clouds is a key feature.

I use Yola because I can create and host a website, not just a blog, so I will stay with Yola for the time being. But I hope that this issue will be fixed (i.e. returned to its previous state) as a measure of respect to loyal Yola users like myself. Otherwise, this isn't a good indication of what to expect in the future with respect to Yola supporting websites with featured blogs.

Thank you for your feedback. I certainly understand your disappointment and will pass your comments on to our Product team. I know they do their best to prioritize features and bug fixes in the best possible way for the most possible number of customers, but they are always open to user feedback such as this, and I will make sure that they are aware of it.

Hi Sally

I am a Product Manager here at Yola, and Monique passed your comment on to me. Like her, I definitely understand the disappointment. Lowering the priority of blogs was a tough decision for us to make. Unfortunately, we have only so many development hours in the day, so we are unable to address all issues in the timeframe we would like to.

As this year progresses, I think you will see that the projects we *are* prioritizing will make your site building experience better and easier than ever before. We take our customer requests seriously so you will see a lot of great improvements and features this year.

I expect us to re-evaluate our priorities in the back half of the year, and hopefully by then we will be able to fix some of the most pressing bugs in blogs.

Thanks for your continued support, and keep the feedback coming.

HI.

This is unfortunate, you do not seem to be listening to you users needs and concerns. I have had to drop the blog page from one of my sites dut to the continuing issues. Another site I (currently a landing site on Yola) will now be hosted elsware as it's blog functionality is an important aspect of what the charity voulenteer group requires from it.

Please listen to you users!

Hi Rob.B. I assure you that we are listening, although our response might not be what users of our blog platform may like at this time. Please see the response from Rian above. The decision to de-prioritize blog maintenance and development was difficult one that was made in favor of some more pressing projects we are tackling at this time. We realize that this is a significant inconvenience to users who blog with Yola and we really regret this. Hopefully we will be able to rectify this once some of our current projects have been completed.

It seems to me you are rushing stuff out, but have no maintenance plan! What are your dirvers? It seems you are taking away control from users and automating (dumbing down) widgets that don't need it; e.g the changes to the resizing of images. Touch one in a existing page and it can be hell on earth to get the page layout back to what it was.

I know you have your reasons but please do stuff that needs to be done not just because it exites your developers (sorry software engineers) and looks nice.

Rob.

Hi All

I would just like to let you know that the priority on this bug has been raised and we hope to have a fix for you soon.

Again, our apologies for the frustration and inconvenience. Thank you for bearing us while we worked on this and tried to find to find the right balance between developing high demand features and fixing bugs.
