Blogging Widgets - Catagories and Recent Posts

I'm thrilled about the new blogging platform that came out the other day, but I have a few of questions.

1) In regards to the blogging widget for recent posts, is there a way that can put that on a different page of my website (say my front page) so that people can click through to my blog?

2) In regards to categories, is there a way to list recent posts under just one category (and perhaps put this on a separate page as well)?

3) Is there a way to add more than one category to a post?

Thank you so much for adding this feature.

I look forward to your response.

Hi Tina,

Glad to hear you're happy with the blogging platform! Here are the answers to your questions:

1. The only way you can have blogging widgets on another page is if that particular page is a blog page. Unfortunately, it's not possible to change a web page to a blog page, but you can recreate the page and choose the 'Blog page' option when you click on 'New page' - I hope that makes sense!

2. Unfortunately there isn't a way to categorise 'Recent Posts', you can only choose the amount of recent posts by clicking on the 'edit' button of the widget.

3. You can only add one category to a post. Perhaps use tags instead? Then you can assign as many tags as you like to a post.

Thanks Marije,

I'm still confused about question one. If I change my main page to a blog page and add the recent posts widget it will only give me the recent posts for that page, not the blog page I have already established on my site.

I guess I was hoping for something along the lines of what goggle has on the sign in page for Gmail. They have their recents blog posts showing up on the sign in page and you can click on a post which takes you to their blog page for more information.

Do you know of another way to do this than the recent posts widget?

Thanks

Hi Tina,

You're right - I wasn't thinking clearly and I apologise!

I'm going to investigate an alternative for you and let you know.

Hey Tina,

In response to your question #1...

I wanted to achieve something similar and opted for making my index page into a blog page. I don't use all the blogging widgets on there though, just the one for posting. I keep that blog as a small-sized element among a few others in the homepage.

I use this mini-blog as a news blog. I mainly post about updates, news, and summaries of recent posts from my main blog, with links saying "read the full post" that take visitors to the post on the main blog. You can see it at http://cosmicsensorium.com

hope this helps!
