Bounce Rate and Your Site

I know many of you are new to site building and I wanted to share a little about Bounce Rate and my endeavors to improve the Bounce Rate of my own site.

Bounce Rate is exactly as it sounds...In Google Analytics (or others) this tells you what percent of visitors bounce right off your site. Of course we want this low because it means we are doing a good job of engaging our visitors.

I had been coasting along at 38% to 44% Bounce Rate over any given 30 day period and thought I could do better.

The first thing I did was to start looking at my product pages and thinking about what I could do better. I decided that since I know content is king on the web, I needed to make sure that (aside from being good content) as much as possible needed to be above the fold on my pages. I went through each category and product page and made an all out effort to achieve more content placed above the fold to give visitors something right away that would engage them. This project was done over a few months and it didn't take long to start seeing my Bounce Rate Drop as I improved each page. I am happy to say that over the last 3 months my bounce rate has stayed between 14% to 15% .

I hope some of you find this helpful and if you would like some additional information on this subject the following link is to a nice article I found on Mashable . . .
