Hi , i am thinking about buying www.charlottebillingham.co.uk from Yola, which is about 4 x more expensive than anywhere else but it will save me fussing around trying to redirect etc.. before i do theres a couple of things id like to know.
1. is email (e.g info@charlottebillingham.co.uk) included and free and available to set up
2. what will happen to my www.charlottebillingham.yolasite.com domain?
3. if after the 2 years i no longer want the .co.uk domain, will it automatically revert back to my .yolasite.com domain?

any other vital information will also be greatly received before i buy!
thanks
charlotte

1.)
a.) Unfortunately Yola mail is not included in your domain purchase for free, as far as I know.

b.) But you can use Google Apps email, which allows you 50 free email addresses on your own domain. Thats what I have used for my site.
There is a tutorial for Google Apps email setup: Google Apps Tutorial

c.) Also by having your domain through Yola, it makes the setup of Google apps easier as all your MX records will be setup automatically, this you will need to do at another domain registrar.

2.) From what I remember, you can't have your site published to your own domain & a .yolasite.com sub-domain at the same time, this may have changed, maybe a Yola rep can confirm it?

3.) Depending on how long you register your domain, 1, 2, 3, years, at the end of this time you can renew your domain for a further amount of years. Or you can re-publish your site to: www.charlottebillingham.yolasite.com (This you will need to do its not automatic.) However, if I am wrong about your second question then your site will simply only be accessible through your yolasite.com address when your payed domain expires.

I hope this helps, I am sure a Yola rep can confirm the above :D

Hello Charlotte,

Thank you for your message. I will gladly address the questions you have asked:

1) While mail does not come free with your domain, you do have three options to choose from while looking to set up mail service.
a. Setup your email addresses using Yola Mail: Setting up your email with Yola Mail.
b. Setup your email using Google Apps: Setting up your email with Google Apps.
c. Setup your email addresses using Windows Live: Setting up your email with Windows Live.

For only $9.96 a year, you will be able to easily setup your email addresses using Yola Mail. You will be able to view you emails online by logging into a web interface and you can configure email clients (eg. Outlook Express, Thunderbird etc) to download and receive email on your computer. More information available on this link: Setting up your email with Yola Mail.

2) After purchasing your Yola domain, you are able to keep your subdomain (http://www.charlottebillingham.yolasi...) published to your site as well. Here are the steps you will take for publishing to your purchased domain if your site is already published to a subdomain:

1. Click on the down-arrow next to "Publish to the web"
2. Click on "Publishing Settings".
3. Click on "Add a Domain you Own".
4. Fill in your domain in the box provided and click on "ok"

Your site will then be published to your domain and your subdomain. If your site now redirects to your subdomain, please follow these steps: My domain is redirecting to my Yolasite subdomain.

3) If your site is already published to a subdomain and you purchase a domain, the subdomain will automatically redirect to your new address (www.example.com). This way, you won't lose the value of any links or visitors that only know your old location and they'll see your new domain. If you choose not to renew your domain after one year, then your site will still be published to your free subdomain. You will need to remove the expired domain from you publishing settings and you can do this by accessing the "Advanced Site Settings" from the My Yola page.

I hope this helps, Charlotte! Please let me know if you have any further questions.

thankyou for the answers!
just a quick question- will purchasing a domain remove the yola advertising from the bottom of my site?
i have just purchased www.charlottebillingham.com so will allow 24 hours for it to come into effect- is there anything else i must do now, for example physically publish the site to that address? or will it all do it automatically?

thanks
charlotte

Hi cb06,

Purchasing a domain will not remove the Yola link from your website, only Yola Silver will do that. Please see this page for more information about the package.

I do see that http://www.charlottebillingham.com/ is already running and your website is stunning! I write the Featured Website of the Week blog post for Yola and I am interested in featuring your site on our blog. You can see the series of posts your site would be a part of here: http://blog.yola.com/category/feature....

If you're interested in being featured, would you please email support@yola.com ATTN: Featured Sites.
