Calling all Featured Sites Webmasters

Hi All

So I was having a normal day, doing support, answering all the many questions Yola customers have, same old - same old, and I opened an email that gave me an idea. I hope it is a good one!

The person asked us how one of our featured sites was created. They wanted to know what style was used and how the photogallery was built. We get emails like this from time to time about our featured sites. I am also aware that if your site ends up being featured, you get a lot of personal emails from people wanting to know how you built your site.

This got me thinking. We should create a blog. The blog could be called "How'd They Do That?" We could write posts explaining how some of our top sites were created. Points of interest would be:

1) What style was selected, and why was it a good choice for this particular website?
2) How did the webmaster personalize their style?
3) How was the site navigation structured?
4) What cool Yola features did the webmaster use to enhance their sites?
5) What design tips can we pick up from this site?
6) What did the site owner do to promote their site and attract traffic?
7) Any other points of interest.

The blog should focus on current or past featured sites. However, it does not need to be limited to these sites. If you have a great looking site that you think the world should see, you can also participate.

So come on guys, help me out! Many of the featured sites come from this community. If yours is one of them, write us a blogpost about the creation of your site. If you are feeling particularly creative, do a video tutorial with YouTube or ScreenJelly and we will embed it in the blog! Email your submission to "support@yola.com" and use the subject line: "BLOGPOST: yoursiteurl.com".

That way we can save you answering lots of emails by linking people to the "How'd They Do That?" blog instead. And of course, you would get some valuable traffic for your site!

Whose with me?

Monique,

How can I get my site to be a Featured site? It's not yet published but will at the latest this weekend. My feelings won't be hurt if my site isn't deemed "sexy" enough for it to be featured. Figured I'd just ask :)

Hi Monique (and thanks for the encouragement Littleus!),
My site is finally done! I'm writing to say the Next Steps Career Solutions Site is finally done and I would like to submit, for consideration, this link: Next Steps Career Solutions. Thanks plenty!

Trina

P.S. I love Yola. I didn't know a thing about html and I was able to start and finish this 41 page site in less than 4 days with everyone's help! Thank you again!!!

Why can't my web pae load up. I have been trying now for 1 hour to load my page so I can edit it. I have been sending you support questions for help and did not get responses. You are the fifth try now I need to edit my page. Last night I downloaded my products from one site to my computer and then I uploaded the products to my webpage file manager and now I can not load to edit them.

This a super duper ideir (idea) Monique...

When my site was featured I would get hundreds and more inquiries weekly and forwarded them to my posts here in the forums... That is truly why I am a prolific poster of my tips. I think and it's my personal opinion that the more you help the more you get back and I get back the fact that others are helped. I am smiling from ear to ear when I think about how many others yet to come will read what I posted and gain a glimmer of inspiration or knowledge from my words to give their websites a more than had I not posted. Sure they could have found some of them on their own in time but I simply wanted to make it more accessible here in one location rather than having to hunt for them as I did. (I gained a few viruses on my computer along the travels you can be sure but posted only quality sites ;)

I never did get into the blogging thing so I may leave that to the pros like you all...

Off topic: I am famous LOL After my eye surgery today I was walking in downtown Seattle and wearing my YOLA tee-shirt and a woman saw me and almost screamed "Mr. Honeypot is it you?" LOL to my shock she reads the forums and remembered my pic from my site. Tre Bizarre indeed. What odds I wonder? If she is reading the threads now the piece of paper with your URL vanished between Seattle and here. Any chance you can give it to me via my site? Maybe I have a friend in every country and will never have to pay for a motel again LOL It would be nice ;)

Fame at last! Amazing story! The Yola T-shirt must have been a dead give-away :)

To be honest I am not much of a blogger either. But I thought if everyone contributed a post, it would be less overwhelming. I know you love to write the tutorials, so I am banking on you for at least one blogpost. Screenshots included :) We can also add links to related GS threads to from the blogroll or in post itself, so be sure to include these. As well as helping more people on the blog, I am always looking for ways to pull more people into the forum :)

Fame had to come on a day that I had my eyelid numbed, clamped and flipped backwards for an hour+ and then cut open on the side you can't see then well you don't want to know the rest... Needless to say I looked a fright and as if I was the looser in a bad street fight. I hope this is the last time they have to do that. 3rd times the charm huh? This is going to be another difficult couple of days but thank God I have two eyes instead of the one like the last few weeks. It is nice to have my depth perception back...

Now to relax until the next visit with the cutters. What fun...

The blog thingy I am gonna have to warm myself up to as I never was much the skilled writer you know. Too shy ;) Yeah that's it. LOL

I will however try for you. Gimme some times as I am going in a million directions right now.

Hey Lee

I would suggest going through the questions that Monique asked.

Hopefully this will help to formulate your post. I'm looking forward to seeing your submission. =)
