Can I get the old text controls back?

I hate the fact that the only way to control font face and size is in the style designer. So now I am only allowed 1 paragraph text size and format option? I have the old text controls on some of my older sites, yet all new pages go back to the new (god awful) text controls. (no font choice, no point size choice, no good!)

Is there a way to turn it back on?

Hello Guido,

Turn off style designer (make sure that you haven't placed any elements with the Style Designer turned on). You can't have some elements set with the Style Designer and others with it off unless you're prepared to manage chaos!

Select the widget category and pull in Old Text. Once you subsequently click your cursor in the text area the old text menu then will appear.

If you started a new Yola account then this won't be available.

Not sure if you are an employee or not, but this is directed to management...

that is unacceptable to me. I have over 100 silver customers placed with yola, and I know they are stuck with yola since they can not be saved and published with a new service, yet I fear I now have to find a new source for all future work and you will loose my business.

The new text control is crap. I can not / will not be forced to use the presets only and be stuck with 1 font and point size for all paragraph text. I do not want to have to set up a preset just to change 1 line or paragraph in a site. Are yall wanting to be a service for beginners only? There is plenty of garbage site builders out there, I thought yall wanted to be the best. You now have total "hold my hand" crap from a designer's standpoint.

I have wasted countless hours on my latest 3 new sites because of it, when they all should have been done (and paid) by now. Why do yall insist on messing up things that worked fine???

Here's a thought... Try fixing the stuff that has never worked instead, like how when you hit enter to break a line at a specific word, it drops a double space!

Hi Guido,

No I'm not Yola as you can check in the bio.

I agree with you that the pragmatic coned cloning is unsuitable for an artists' approach to web creation and it just shows the lock out of the poet by the pragmatist.

There is no way that pre-sets will accommodate the flexibility required by an artist. As previously mentioned but it falls on deaf reactionary ears. It's a pity that it goes down to the lowest common denominator.

I guess they don't care about the client that does more then one site. It is now a child's toy. Like using paintbrush for photoshop. I have been here from the start, and now I guess I will have to move onwards. It was a great tool while it lasted. The last few "upgrades" have destroyed a promising sitebuilder that once had great flexibility.

Thanks for replying though.

It's a big move but offers you a greater degree of flexibility. WYSIWYG HTML editors offer it all. This of course is on a background of server subscription and learning. The HTML editors offered do reduce the absolute need for understanding all aspects of HTML but don't prevent first level use.

Here are a couple of reviews that may help:

Hello Guido

I'm sorry to hear about your frustration about the new Text Widget. However, we didn't remove the old Text Widget with the functionality you're looking for from existing Yola accounts. It sounds like you've been with us for a while, so I wonder if you should still see the old Text Widget in your Sitebuilder. I'm afraid I wasn't able to locate your Yola account, using the e-mail address you use for this forum. Could you maybe give me a domain name of one of your websites, so I can check your Sitebuilder?

I have countless sites with yola for myself and for clients. Older ones have it, new ones do not. I will not be able to use yola any longer if I can not get the control I desire on the new ones.

The preset option is freakin awful! I wish yall would leave things that work fine alone! Every time you "upgrade" It gets worse, not better. I should be able to use whatever font and size I want, wherever I want. Not forced to be locked into a "1 font fits all" boring arrangement in the style designer that is hard to configure as opposed to just clicking the font I want when I want it.

Is this an option or not? Can it be added back? I do not want to have to move all my sites to a new platform, but it is looking like that is what needs to be done. You will loose over 100 silver accounts, and a client that has been with yall since the beginning of synthasite.

This will cost me countless hours of work, as I have at least 10 sites on the new style designer arrangement, and hate it like you have no idea!!!

If not, will I be able to get all of my client's silver fees reversed and cancel their service so they can be rebuilt somewhere else?

Thanks!

Hi Guido,

We did leave the old text widget active for existing customers who prefer it and who are not interested in updating their existing sites or workflow so as long as you create new websites in existing accounts you will have access to the "Text (old)" widget. If you are referring to new accounts, you are correct that the old text widget is not offered and I can confirm it will not be. This is for a number of reasons but the most important one is that maintaining a consistent look and feel using the Style Designer is the direction our Sitebuilder is going in as it yields the most clean and professional results with the least amount of management. We also firmly believe that it does not limit creativity or force users into a "1 font fits all" situation as you are able to choose from numerous fonts and header styles and apply them all over your site using the new Text widget and Style Designer settings. If you are not familiar with how to do this, I invite you to take a look at this tutorial

We value all of our customers and never want to lose any of them. That said, we realize that our services may not meet everyone's needs. As such we will continue to build the best tools we feel will serve the majority of both our existing customers and those who we hope to gain through continuing to improve upon the functionality of our Sitebuilder.

Hi Stephen,

Can you tell me the site you are working on? If it's not published the name of it in your Sitebuilder will be sufficient.

Hi Laura,
Thanks but I`ve since chatted with Yola help team and have found that as this is a new site I cannot access old text controls - BUT we have come up with a solution, which I am currently waiting to be activated.
So thanks again for your offer

Steve
