Can I change domain names for an unpublished Yola created website??

I have Yola Silver and a .co.uk domain name which I have obtained through Yola. I have built my website but not yet published it using the Yola website builder. I now actually want to use the website I have built but point a .com domain name (registered with GoDaddy.com) so that it points to the unpublished Yola website I have created. Can I do that, without having to create a second website with Yola to which my new .com domain name can be pointed? If so, how?? Any help would be most appreciated. Thanks

Hello Durham

You can definitely do that. If your .com domain with GoDaddy isn't already published/pointing to another website, just follow the instructions in our tutorial Publish to a domain you already own.

You can also publish your Yola website to mulitple domains at the same time. For more information on this, please see our tutorial Assigning domains and creating a primary domain.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Hello,
Thank you very much for your help.
I have been able to point my .com domain to my Yola website and it is now published!! yeah!!
Just one further question please.
I have gone to Google Apps - Free - to set up an email account. I completed everything on the page to click Accept - Create my account - but it doesn't take me through to the SET UP Page.
Can you please help with this as I am keen to be able to set up my email account.
Kind regards, Durham

Hi -
Just got past this problem onto the Google set up page, but it doesn't have the options you show in your tutorial document.
It recommends - GoDaddy.com
If I go there and log in - it asks me if I will allow GoDaddy to manage all my domains - I said no and it chucked me out. - I was concerned to allow only because I didn't want to muck up my domain being pointed to Yola - perhaps I should allow?
The alternate methods tab - that your tutorial suggests - simply takes me to 3 buttons
HTML tag
Add a meta tag to your site's home page.
HTML file upload
Upload an HTML file to your site.
Google Analytics
Use your Google Analytics account.

Can you please help? Thanks - Durham

Just sorted it. Allowed GoDaddy to manage and it all worked.
Thanks anyway
Perhaps it would save time for you and Yola if you updated your tutorials re such other domain registry sites?
Thanks and have a good day.

Durham, just to make sure that I correctly understood what you were doing: So you set up Google Apps Mail for your domain with GoDaddy, right? Strictly speaking we cannot provide instructions for setting up Google Apps for a domain hosted with another domain provider. If you need to check an "allow" option, this is something you would need to ask your provider's support because they will know best about the right steps to take.

Our tutorial refers to setting up Google Apps Mail for your Yola-bought domain. If you think that it's partly out of date, I'll be happy to learn your suggestions on what we should edit. Thank you for your feedback.

Hi Stefan,
Thanks for your help and guidance. Regrettably, I am frustrated because while I went through the process of setting up Gmail using the .com domain name I purchased with GoDaddy, I am finding that I can send emails from it, but can't receive any! I am not sure why this is happening or whether you are able (willing to help even it strictly it is not within your remit)? I am really pleased with my Yola website - it's just so frustrating and embarrassing that I can't receive emails.
Is it something you can (would be willing to help me with) or is this something that I need to go to GoDaddy with? They 'pointed' my domain to Yola - but I am concerned that may be because it is simply pointed to Yola - that the Gmail apps set up is not working as it should.
Anyway - I would value whatever support and advice you can suggest.
Many thanks
Durham

Hello Durham

Be assured that we are always willing to help! :-) But as you own the domain with GoDaddy, I'd suggest to rather contact them for support. I don't want to give you wrong instructions, and because I don't know what GoDaddy requires in detail, it may be best to ask them first. The fact that your domain is pointing to us shouldn't be a problem because it's only pointing to us, but still hosted by GoDaddy.

Just out of curiosity: Why did you set up e-mail for your domain with Google Apps Mail in the first place? I also have a domain with GoDaddy, and I can use custom e-mail for my domain for free with GoDaddy (obviously with limited features, but enough for my needs).

Stefan,
Sorry to pester, but this is perhaps something that you can help with re my Yola site.
When I set it up, I did so with a yahoo.com email address. I changed that on my Yola account page and my password, to the new .com email address I am using.
That is all fine and I sign into my Yola Silver account with the new .com email address and password.
The problem I have is that on testing the Contact app on my new Yola website re a contact message, the Contact app works, but it sends the contact message through to my original email address that I used when I first created my Yola account.
I am hoping that there is an easy fix?
Cheers and thanks in anticipation.

If you mean the Yola Form Widget, you can change the e-mail address used for form submissions as follows:
  1. In the top left corner of your Form Widget, click on "Edit".

  2. The dialogue box for the Form Widget opens. Click on the "Settings" tab.

  3. Now you will see a field where you can set the e-mail address for form submissions. Edit it and save.

  4. Republish your website. Done!
