I want to try changing my site style, and I am very wary about the unexpected consequences this might cuase. I would like to copy the whole site if I can, so I can experiment on it.

Hello Jubeadilation

While it is not possible to copy the site, I do want to assure you that you can easily change the style without losing your work. However, if you have any custom banners or background, then, you will need to re-add these. For more information on how to change your style, please see: Changing Styles.

HI Sanja, Thanks for the reassurance, but...

I notice that many of the styles have a fixed klayout, nearly alwys including 2 columns. I don't want the two columns, and when I took on my style (the spidery one) this wasn't part of the style. What will happen?

The reason I want to change styles is that I think my banner takes up too much room, so I'd like one with a narrower banner, and preferably with the tabs above it rather than below. Are you knowledgable enough to suggest which style to use?
Thanks!!

Hi Jubeadilation,

I'm not sure if this has been suggested to you yet, but what you can do too, is to browse the Yola Style Guide. This will show you all the styles that are available to you, allowing you to click on each and then see whether or not it has customizable banners and backgrounds, etc. Looking at the various styles then, should also give you a rough idea of which one would work best for you.

Hi Francois,

I have already had a look as you suggested, but I am still not sure how much damage I will do to my site if I change styles. I don't know how much my widgets will get rearranged because I don't have a double column layout as shown on most of them. I am really scared that if I try something and it doesn't work, that if I switch back to the old stle, my layout may be corrupted. In fact my Spidery website style seems to have been amended to include 2 columns, so perhaps I couldn't go back anyway!!

As you can imagine, my website took a huge amount of time to develop. I cannot spend days fixing it up if I get things wrong.

Hello Jubeadilation

I think there is confusion about changing styles v.s. changing layouts. Changing your layout will certainly affect how your content is laid out as this involved manipulating the columns. However, changing styles do not have a "layout" attached to them - it's simply the visual design that will change - so this will not alter your layout.

I hope that makes sense! If you want, you can create a test site and see how this works :)

Oh !!!!! Thank you so much for this explanation. Cannot think how I had missed this. (I don't think layout options were "invented" when I first designed my site. I rememmberthem being introducedbut of course I didn't take much notice as I was already established!!)
