Hi, I was wondering if I am able to buy a custom domain while my site is still unpublished ??? I am a fair way off from being ready but seems everywhere I go to get features, widgets etc etc some want my website URL but i'm still in the .sitebuilder.yola.com stage so can I get a custom domain and remain unpublished for a while longer?

When I contacted Paypal about upgrading to my premier account (merchant account) they too wanted my URL but they weren't getting the fact I was still building my site. I tried to explain to them I still have a lot of work to do on it and couldn't give them the actual custom domain :(

Everyday I hit a new brick wall but I'm determined to win and eventually get this off the ground and not annoy the heck out of everyone here with my now daily questions....

Thanks in advance (again)

Hello Indi

Your patience, determination and perseverance is to be applauded!

While you can definitely purchase a custom domain and not publish your site, the widgets and features asking for your custom domain will require that your site be published as they need to pull up your domain.

In the other thread you had posted, I suggested adding a Password Protection feature to help prevent people from viewing your site until you're ready to unveil your work.

Here's the link to add a Password Protection feature: Adding Password Protection

If you would like to go ahead buy a domain, and you're still not wanting to publish your site, you can do so by following these steps:

1. Login to your Yola account.
2. Select the "Domains" tab on the left hand side.
3. Within the "Add a new domain" box, enter the name of the domain you would like to buy, select the domain extension from the drop-down box, and click "Check".
4. If the domain is available you will be able to select "Buy it!".
5. You will then be able to choose a site to link your domain from the drop-down box, or you can select "choose a site later".
6. Select "choose a site later", and this will take you to the payment screen.
7. Complete your payment details and click "Purchase".

When you are ready to publish your site, you can publish it to a domain you already own as follows:

1. Click the green "Publish to the web" button in Yola.
2. Select "Yes, use a domain I already own" and your domain will be available from the drop-down box.
3. Select the domain and click "Ok".

Your site will then be live on your custom domain.

Ahh, ok thank you :) yes I remember you saying about the Password Protect. So pretty much basically I would have to "password protect" every single page on my site - yes ???

I am a bit confused by point #5 above "You will then be able to choose a site to link your domain from the drop-down box, or you can select "choose a site later".

Umm, exactly what does that mean? Choose a site to link your domain from ????

Put me in the category of not website building savvy ......lol.

Thanks again for all the help and advice you give :)

Hi Indi

If you have more than 1 site, then you can choose which site you want to publish to your domain or you can simply wait until later to decide.

I hope that clears up the confusion.
